Re: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)
Well teamate or enemy can you hear you when you are within a certain distance. The other person will hear you through their TV set or sound system, not their headset. It adds a new twist as you can occasionally hear a guy and get saved or they may hear you and find you.Comment

Re: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)
heel thats it as far as I know. the one thing is when you join a clan, your team gets access to a gun specific to each special forces group. Something like this:
Navy Seals: SFCW-L
SAS: IW-80
GIGN:Famas-g2
ksk: gmp
Italy Sf:benali
you can see these guns if you look at your records in the game even though only the Seals and the KSK are selectable. Also, when EGM did a cover story a few months ago they also announced a couple of other special forces groups but I guess Slany six did not want them to say that so they retracted it. That tells me they will be DLC later on.follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/eton_riflesComment

Re: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)
Not at all. The game is much closer to Socom 3 then Socom 2. In fact, there isn't one thing that really resembles Socom 2 thats in Confrontation core-gameplay wise. Here's my list of what I don't like in the game:
-The game is much slower then 2 ever was in all aspects from movement to overall pacing of the game
- the controls are not fluid at all and are nowhere near as dynamic as they used to be in Socom 2
- the gun spray is mostly inaccurate and inconsistent, long range gun battles are nearly non-existent because they are pointless. The inaccuracy of the guns make long range gun battles based on complete luck
- Sniper rifles are more accurate out of scope then in it which is stupid beyond words
- scopes period are for the most part worthless because the assault rifles are just as inaccurate in scope as they are out of it
- grenades are weak and do not go far at all and it is extremely clunky trying to pull them out
- the six axis leaning and tilting up to throw grenades longer is not good at all
- reloading takes way too long and you cannot sprint, jump, or dive while reloading or it stops the ridiculously long animation making you start over
- you can't jump and shoot at the same time either which was a Socom 1-2 staple.
There's more that I'm forgetting but I've typed more then enough.
I was a beast at Socom 2 online and I stopped playing it about 6-8 months ago when the cheaters took the game over. I was a beast at Socom 3 as well but playing it was like pulling teeth for the most part so I went back to S2 after a month of S3. I'm not trying to change minds, these are my opinions of the game, I don't expect any of you to agree.
With that said, do not tell me "thats not realistic so it shouldn't be like that" in response to any of my complaints.
Socom 1 and Socom 2, the two games that Slant Six themselves said they would base Confrontation off of and keep Confrontation close to those roots were not based on realism at all. What made Socom 1 and 2 so popular and so good had nothing to do with realism.
Anyway, if they patch the game again and make the guns way more accurate and also make grenades stronger while also enabling us to throw them a decent amount further then we can now without the six axis nonsense, then this game might turn out to be decent. As it is now, I'm not buying it based off of what I've played so far.Comment

Re: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)
You said "don't say it's not realistic" but I'm going to say it anyway. I don't care that the previous Socom games weren't realistic. It's clear this game was built with more realism in mind. THey probably also toned down the grenades so it wasn't a nade fest like in so many other tactical shooters.
The guns seem very realistic to me. Sorry, but you can't just gun a guy down on full-auto from 100 feet away most of the time. Even in semi with a concentrated shot it's not easy. I know it's a video game, but many of us want a very realistic game and it really looks like Socom Confrontation has brought that to us."Well the NBA is in great hands but if I had to pick the single greatest player on the planet, I take Kobe Bryant without hesitation." - Michael Jordan, 2006Comment

Re: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)
Fair enough. I enjoy the heck out of this game but my perspective is certainly different since I didn't play the others. Would it be more fun if it was quicker paced with more run and gun? I don't know. Just my thoughts on your thoughts... if that makes sense........."Well the NBA is in great hands but if I had to pick the single greatest player on the planet, I take Kobe Bryant without hesitation." - Michael Jordan, 2006Comment

long gun battles seem fun to me too. Seems pretty realistic as you shouldn't be able to shoot guys at will from long distances. I don't use grenades much because it takes too much time for me to switch to them and throw them good. Glad they are not like COD4 where you can chunk one 50 yards though. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)
about grenades, is there a quick way to switch to them other than pressing the "O" button and pressing left ? Any trick to throwing them farther? My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)
To throw them farther hold down the R1 button and tilt your controller like you are trying to make your guy stand up, have it vertical or darn close and you can really launch them.Comment

Re: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)
Triangle is used to go from crouch to standing and their is an onscreen indicator at the bottom right of the screen to show this. To lay down you hold down the triangle button. You start out in the crouch position when the game begins and when you begin to move he will go upright but once you let off he will go back to crouch unless you make him stay upright by tapping the triangle button while moving."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment
