Great thing about this game, no matter if you play on easy or expert, it's a blast for all.
I used to be in the same situation. In fact, a little over a year ago I could barely play on Easy. Now I can play almost every song on Hard and quite a few of the easier songs on Expert.

All I did was just what Born and the others said, practice training your hand to play using all five buttons. After probably a few weeks you should start getting progressively better at it. It just takes time.

      Re: Rock Band 2

Ever since I switched from using my pinky to get both the blue and orange frets to using my index finger to get both the green and red frets I've improved significantly. It took some getting used to, but I am a much better virtual guitar player now.

My biggest problem is drums, specifically the bass pedal. Is there a good way to train yourself to be able to hit the bass drum on off-beats? Any time the bass is off of when I am hitting the drum pads I get thrown way out of wack, even if it is a simple, repetitive rhythm.

Also, how do you determine what the correct height is for your drumset?

      Thanks for any help.

        That's a 360 thing.

Funny you don't notice stuff like that untill it tells you it's not ok to use thus calling attention to the exact thing they're trying to avoid.

          Hey Ryan,

To get the bass pedal on off beats, practice lifting your leg the moment you hit the down beat on either the hi-hat or the snare. So when the offbeat comes in, you're landing on it after an anticipatory lift of the leg. If there are two bass beats, your leg is now bouncing from the offbeat onto the downbeat.

When determining the height of your drumset, you have to look at your arms. Your elbows should be basically at your sides with your forearms at a 90 degree angle to your upper arms. Now you're moving, so this isn't set in stone, but the point is you should adopt a relaxed position with your wrists and fingers allowed to do most of the work. Ideally, when you get tired, it's your forearm muscles and NOT your biceps. Maintaining a relaxed position with your arms down assures this, and determines the drum height as well.

I have the drumset as high as it can go, and I still wish it was higher. Ever since I got a real drum throne, it's too low. My real drum set was higher...of course my snare was between my legs too. I don't think I can ever fully adjust to the fake drum set. I hope some day you can move the pads around.

Mostly American and French Grip. Never the jazz style. I can't play like that.

On this note, if my move my set higher (which I would like to do), the pedal lifts off the floor. I assume I just need to do some stretching of that cord. Is that correct, or is there something else I need to do?

I do have a different peddle than the OEM one, so my cord may be longer. It does reach fine if you extend all the way up.

I think it's SUPER important to use RYBO as your "home" keys and only use pinky on the orange. Whenever possible, I try to hit blue with my ring finger. It's tough to get the hang of, but I try to hit red and green as much as possible with my index finger...your pinky is by far your weakest finger, so try to use that as little as possible...so for those YB chords, use middle/ring instead of ring/pinky.

I can't use my pinky on guitar. Sometimes if I HAVE to I will, but I've gone years now playing expert guitar without my pinky. Gotta see how quick my fingers are.

Really? How the heck can you hit the G/O chords? That's some nice dexterity there! 3 button chords would be a pain in the butt too.

G/O I use my pinky for. I don't use it most of the time though because it's just not comfortable for me. I slide my fingers up and down the side of the guitar and I've gotten used to it.
