But the code is useless because it doesn't let you save and disables achivements.

So yes, unless you don't want to be able to save/progress,you'll have to play career. (or is that the one that doesn't allow online play?)

If you do the challenges you can unlock it by the 3rd section,it's in the Infinte Alternative Challenge. If you're doing tour it depends where you start because it might be in a city specific challenge but it's a medium song so it should be somewhere around the middle of the tour.

I always thought locking the songs until you play through career mode was quite the stupid move. Many people just want to play the game and not worry about those things. That's one of the few things that guitar hero does the right way.

Or, you can unlock all of them at once. All you need to do is go into the game modifier screen, enter a special code, and all 84 songs will be unlocked instantaneously. The code happens to be the same unlock code from the original Rock Band: Red, Yellow, Blue, Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Red, Yellow, Blue.

Agreed. Seems like you would alienate people who just want to pick up and play by going this route.

Well no they screwed it up too because even though you've got all the songs you've only got one place to play. (At least with Smash Hits) I guess it's not bad if there's like one song you've been waiting to play for a really long time and you can go straight for it.

Well, you can put the codes in and enter the contest if you want, you don't have to pick the song you want right away.

Maybe I just don't appreciate death metal, but that doesn't sound so much like music to me as much as it sounds like random screaming and flailing.

Still a heck of a challenge to complete, though.

Yeah that's what I did. We got until the end of the year to use these, so you know they'll add a ton more songs by then.

No offense but with Death metal or real Thrash metal it's one of those things that you either "get" or you don't. Most people don't, and that's part of it's allure to the people that do. What's funny is I've known some people who thought it was all noise too, but something happened that changed their mind. Maybe they saw some live video or something and were like, "Man I used to think it was all noise, now I get it".

As with any type of music though there's great bands, and crap bands.

Meh, I think there's a difference: this really is just noise. There is absolutely zero way to decipher what they're saying. As YouTube user Napolean says about the song Hammer Smashed Face...

                    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MhSkStpRjdw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MhSkStpRjdw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

"I'm sure I'd sound like that too if my face had been smashed in by a hammer."

Cannibal Corpse is pretty legendary as far as that sort of metal goes. I mean, hey, come on, they were in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" after all.

That one qualifies as actual music. Visions still doesn't though.

I think it's odd the DLC includes more death metal than "basic" metal. Killswitch Engage, God Forbid, Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Avenged Sevenfold, Unearth, All Shall Perish, etc these are the bigger metal bands out there but have slim or no pickings in terms of DLC.

I'm also shocked SOAD doesn't have more DLC either. And when will we get some Tool on the list?
