Re: Rock Band 2
Are any of you guys competent in playing the drums on Expert?
I just got done playing on Medium during world tour. I was struggling my behind off with it. For the most part, I have no problem with medium. But some of the tracks were pretty difficult at medium difficulty.
I tried Hard the other day on a few of the easiest tracks, and did OK. But, any level higher than the easiest songs in the game, I failed miserably.
This has lead me to believe that Expert has to be damn near impossible to complete.

I have no prob with the RB2 Drum kit for 360. Got it like 2 weeks after release and still have it and maybe have replaced the batteries once. No problems whatsoever! and i love itCharger Fan Born and Raised!

Re: Rock Band 2
Haha I know what you mean TMagic. Hard was pretty difficult at first but eventually you'll be able to get through it if you work at it.
Expert's a whole new level though no punches are held in that mode. A lot of times on hard and medium there will breaks on the track that aren't really there. So when you play them on expert they may throw you for a loop at how difficult they are. Not to mention drum rolls just get ridiculous. The pedal sees some use on hard but starts to get tough on expert because now you start to see some real complex patterns.
Songs like Let There be Rock are real workouts on expert even if the beat is the same the whole time. But one thing I have to say is once you get used to playing on expert there's no going back, its just way too much fun. Its the closest thing I can get to feeling a real drummer Lol.
And the solo buttons are the smaller fret buttons on the rock band stratocaster. If you use them during solos you don't have to strum.Comment

I feel like they omitted two levels in-between medium and hard on most tracks. lol
It's crazy to me how big of a jump it is from medium to hard.
I felt I was in FULL read and react mode instead of just playing if you know what I mean.
Any tips you got would be helpful.Comment

Re: Rock Band 2
Just eliminates the orange pad. It's pretty awkward, though. I only use that when I'm at home where we have a GH set, at my apartment I have a RB set. I would never want to use the GH set on a regular basis.

Re: Rock Band 2
So for an entire year, I've only played two weeks worth of drums. This is crap. I would like to go for the RB1 drums, but I won't be able to get over how loud they are. I'll look for some silencer pads in retail stores and maybe bring my metal bass pedal with me to school.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

You aren't kidding man.

The best tip I can give is to practice, practice, practice you have to continue to do it. It will get easier as you start to learn the patterns of the beat.
A lot of what makes hard and expert so difficult is the complex patterns. Once you figure these out its all about timing.
Another tip well not really a tip but something to keep in mind is limb independence. For example a simple beat you will see is the yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow+red. On this type of beat you want keep your right hand in constant motion and then bring down the left on that fourth hit.
What I used to do on that fourth hit was pick up both hands and hit each pad at the same time (Hopefully that made since). My timing was always getting thrown off because I played like that. Especially on the faster songs that throw that type of beat at you for a long time. White Wedding is a great song to practice that with.
Another tip is to use more wrist and less forearm it will save you a lot of pain on the faster paced tracks.
I also like to have my heel up on the pedal I have more control that way. And the last tip is to start out slow dont kill yourself w/ the harder songs it will only frustrate you.
On hard its like you have to relearn how to play b/c things that worked on medium wont cut it anymore. So just take your time and try to learn something from each track.
Hope this helps you out a bit.Comment

Re: Rock Band 2
You're lucky. I first got RB2 Special Edition early December of 2008, and the blue pad never registered. I got a set of replacement drums shipped home to me since I was going home for winter break, but my luggage at the airport got stolen. I got a new RB2 for Christmas so I returned those replacement drums that I never opened, and about two weeks later my drums stopped syncing with the wireless.
So for an entire year, I've only played two weeks worth of drums. This is crap. I would like to go for the RB1 drums, but I won't be able to get over how loud they are. I'll look for some silencer pads in retail stores and maybe bring my metal bass pedal with me to school.Comment

Re: Rock Band 2
The silencer pads for $20 on RBparts.com are wonderful. I put them on the RB2 drums, but they would work just the same on RB1 stuff. They make a huge difference and I can usually get away with playing mine while someone in the room is on the phone without bothering them too much. Just make sure you have a decent kick pedal if you're using the RB1 drums. But if they're going for $10 now, then you really can't go wrong.Xbox Live Gamertag: MizzouBrentComment

Re: Rock Band 2
Thanks, but does anyone know where I can get them in retail? I'm just looking for something to pick up and go, not worry about shipping costs, delivery wait, returning it if I have to, credit card stuff, etc. I'm not a big fan of online shopping at all unless I absolutely have to.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
