Also another question, are the Dragon Age games open world? Or do you have to follow a certain path?

Well the 1st game was pretty much open world. You chose which town you wanted to explore.

Where there things like side quests, dungeons, and mini games kind of like Oblivion?

          Re: Dragon Age 2

Just finished the demo. I liked it, and I realized it's because it reminded me a lot of "Jade Empire", which to me is still the crown jewel in the Bioware cannon. Why they don't go back to that world is beyond me; there was so much room for growth and improvement in that kung-fu/Crouching Tiger world they created.

Anyway, back on topic, I never played the 1st game (heard mixed things, wasn't that interested...also, and I know it's shallow as heck, but it kinda looked like crap on 360), but will I be missing something if I just jump into this new installment without having played part 1? Is the 1st game similar in terms of gameplay to the new one?

I'm trying to decide whether to dive into the Mass Effect series or the Dragon Age one...I don't have time in my life for both....

No. Check your Bioware account. Go to profile and then "Your registered game promotions".

Probably too many sidequests. Don't think there were any random dungeons. No mini games.

            Yes you will.

No not really. This is much faster, flashier and smoother. Also a whole lot easier, unless you're the mage who was the beast mode of the original and seems to be more difficult to use here.

Would like to add either way you'll get your money's worth. They're sure as heck not over in 3 hours. I've been playing Awakening for 7 so far. It was a $30 (or $40?) expansion and longer than most full games already.

Could be that the demo is on an easier difficulty. In the first game you would have just pressed A once and watched your character fire away. I like the more action oriented approach. As the game goes on you will have to mix in your abilities + I imagine the increase in enemies will mean you get pounced on more even as an archer.

I think I want to give the Warrior a try today...I may have no choice but to go with the Rogue....he was a Darth Maul Ninja and the smoke bomb backstab never got old for me. However, I can see where a mobbed individual Rogue could get overwhelmed and die. He doesn't deal out enough damage or have enough health to survive a mob attack...I suppose that's where the Tactics come in play.

I downloaded the demo last night on PS3 but was too busy playing The Show 11 demo to try it out. Anyone has tried out the PS3 version? Is it lag free?

Played through the first battle and then stopped since I didn't want to spoil much for the full game.

Combat speed is definitely a change of pace as its much easier to take on big groups of hurlocks than in Origins. Might just have to up the difficulty level to make it tougher then. Also agree with people saying that rogue is a great class. Only did the one battle, but being able to do backstab every few seconds tears through groups of weak enemies.

In the first battle, it's supposed to be easy, you are supposed to be overpowered. It's part of the game's story but basically, without spoiling, it's a mythologized account of what really happened. You have the same fight if you play on, but instead you arevel 2-3 instead of 9+ (it doesn't say what level you are initially, that's just my wild guess).

Played the demo tonight as the Rouge (which is probably who I will be in the game). The combat is def different and does have a Fable III feel to it. The graphics are much improved and I like the fact that my character has a voice now when he speaks. It was cool to see a old character pop up in the demo from Dragon Age. Although it was short (30 min for me to beat) I really liked it and am pumped for the release.

Lots of good changes as far as I could tell.

So i finally tried it tonight & it does run alot smoother than the first one. Graphics are alot cleaner though there was still some minimal stutter but only in the cutscenes, nothing drastic. I like the new gameplay & at the same time it still feels like the first Dragon Age which to me is a good thing. Tried a 2 hander warrior which I liked. Next time I will try a rogue.

The way you have to be more commited now makes it like having extra classes,I like it.
I feel like I'll play through twice, use the rogue both times,go all ninja the first and archery the second. Mage was a bum and the warrior wasn't different enough, most certianly more effective but a lot of the style of attacks.

                                Also here's this:
