I have trouble with kobolds when they are in a group, especially a mix of rogues, nightblade, and a regular kobold with the spear. Those guys are deadly with their bombs and spears.

Completed the House of Ballads. Very cool and unique quest line. I managed to die once during it. I agree about groups being tough.

Got lucky with a couple blue weapons that just happened to be what I'm using: a Greatsword that adds +1 to all Might abilities and Chakram that add +1 to all Sorcery abilities. Some abilities are over the max now.

25 hours down and still have a large chunk of unexplored land in Dalentarth and haven't set foot in the second region yet. Love this game.

I only went into another region to get the 4+ level achievement. I'm not sure why, steam achievements are even more useless than 360 achievements.

              Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

I disagree with the pro reviews which are knocking the game down to the low 80s. In the first few hours I've had some of the most memorable fights I've experienced in gaming, much more memorable than those in Skyrim. KoA is my favorite rpg in recent memory. Don't know if it's as good as Dragon Age, but I'm liking it better than Skyrim.

I knew this game was going to score lower than Skyrim, because reviewers are going to judge it based on what they think is the holy grail of RPGs, which for them would be Skyrim.

Skyrim is initially very very good. It is awe inspiring in fact. However, the more time I spend in it, the more I realize the combat gets worse not better and for me that causes the game to lose its luster after about 65 hours or so.

I definitely plan on buying Kingdoms. I just have such a huge backlog of games and work is super crazy right now. It just doesn't make sense to buy anything new right now. I will pick it up on a Steam sale in 5 or 6 months.

There's also a hive mind mentality when it comes to the big hyped AAA blockbusters and a seemingly unwillingness to critique properly compared to new IPs and lesser hyped games. Reviews read more in line with expectations and what their readers want to hear, rather than the reviewers opinion. I could go on and on about my issues with reviews.

Agree about the reviews and review system today.

I'll eventually pick this up but close to 90 hours in on Skyrim and I'm still having a blast but that in no way should detract from what Reckoning brings me once I play the retail.
I'm sure they both will bring people different experiences and memories.

                        Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

I don't really get the comparing the two as far as which is better is concerned. If you're having fun, then just let it be that. If you like it better than Skyrim, fine. If you liked Skyrim better fine. No point in trying to convince everyone else to share your tastes, or being upset that "your" game didn't get a better score than another. Why waste time worrying about who got the better score?

While I'm still having a lot of fun with Skyrim, I look forward to playing this later on in the year. It looks, and from what I've read of the general impressions here, sounds like a really fun game. It'll be a nice change of pace.
                        PS: You guys are great.

Both games are great on their own - and in different ways. I love them both to death and I'm just happy that RPG's are enjoying such a renaissance lately.

                          BTW, color-coded loot = crack.

Well if all else fails you guys know I have no problem tearing a game apart no matter what the reviews say.

Speaking of which in the 14 and a half hours I've played this my only complaints with this are the walking/running animations and a glitch in stealth kills that causes flickering.
