I have to disagree with you. Saints Row 2 is hardly any more whacky and outrageous than GTA: SA.

SA has you doing home invasions, taking over and protecting gang territory, customizing your character in the gym and barbershop, racing cars around the city, customizing your cars (which was entirely made useless and frustrating by the garage bug), using weapons like a mini-gun; a flame thrower; a rocket launcher; even a heat seeking rocket launcher, flying around in a fighter jet and even sky diving out of it...

Saints Row 2 is basically a jacked up GTA: SA. Yes, it takes things a bit further in areas, but at it's core the game is a jacked up GTA.

The two games are entirely comparable; especially the areas of SR2 that I thought GTA really dropped the bomb on. I'm not saying GTA IV wasn't a good game, it definitely was; but I was greatly disappointed in it and never even finished the thing. They decided to start going for a simulation game with the fancy new 360 Hardware, and I just didn't like the feeling of it - driving was no longer fun, customization was taken out, all of the things that made GTA: SA so damn fun were just taken out and the series was kind of rebooted in a way. It's like they started to take themselves a little to seriously and forgot that what made the series so fun was that it was silly and insane and didn't take itself seriously most of the time.

The GTA series is very comparable to the Saints Row series; however GTA seemed to be taking a step away from what the previous games were, and I wasn't a big fan of that. I'm hoping that this new installment brings back what made the previous ones so fun, while containing the detail and richness of GTA IV.

I'm confused. You started the post by disagreeing with the possibility that Saints Row is more outrageous than GTA, but the rest of the post seemed to indicate that it is more outrageous than GTA.

So I don't know what I misunderstood when those phrases specifically say that Saints Row isn't comparable to Grand Theft Auto.

Still not sure where the problem is here - you're taking only a few sentences out of a paragraph and seemingly not connecting them how they're intended. I compared it to San Andreas and showed how similar things were between that and Saints Row 2... And how they decided to take a somewhat different direction with GTA IV, which I was unhappy with. GTA IV isn't the GTA series, it's one game in the series.

*To also clarify; I'm confused how the sentence "Saints Row 2 is basically a jacked up GTA: SA" reads to you that the two games are not comparable. That's really quite confusing to me. Saying that one games is basically the other, but with more content, is very much saying they're comparable. Especially when the two games prior to GTA: SA are very similar (SA just adds to what the series already was).

I took jacked up as meaning more outrageous.

If you meant more content then that's where my confusion lies. No biggie. Was trying to understand your point. I think you cleared it up with that last paragraph.

Lol no...I actually enjoyed IV as well...beat it twice. I see were Alot of people didn't like it as much though. It lacked Alot of features that made SA such an awesome experience. That being said, I figure I'm also in the minority of people who enjoyed the "dark" storyline of IV...

My sentiments exactly. Having said that, I can't recall being this excited about a game in quite a while. Luckily for me, I still have RDR to play because I've never played it before lol...I know I know...Ima noob haha

I also enjoyed GTA IV, it obviously wasn't the best GTA game ever and it was a bit dark for the series but I thought it was a good change of pace. I really gravitated toward Niko's story and think he was a very strong character. I wouldn't want to see GTA move in that direction but having a darker game every once in a while isn't a bad thing.

It's nice to have a game with a little grit under the fingernails so to speak.

Lol I must say GTA SA was by far my favorite one of the series. The map was just so vast and there was always something to do. The missions get a little "out there", especially once you make it to San Fierro. There was one in particular that I loathed having to play involving remote control cars. But yeah, if you can stomach having to play a sandbox game with the graphics of yesteryear, I strongly recommend giving it a try...

Be ready to defend our hobby when this game comes out, you know that this game is going to create a lot of fuel for the Anti-VG crowd. I can see it now, some reporter or politician re-enacts the Boston Marathon bombing in this game and screams bloody murder.
