Resistance 3 Barely Outsells Resistance 1

Resistance 3 is supposed to be a big exclusive for Sony, a first-person shooter (FPS) series that helped launch the PlayStation 3 (in arguably one of the worst videogame console launches of all time) before molding into one of the platform holder's premier franchises.

However, first-week sales for the game are anything but impressive, bordering downright pathetic leading into arguably one of the most competitive few months in the industry in a long time...

It is very troublesome to see the game's sales, though, and the figures do raise some questions as to Sony's handling of a game that could very well have the potential to move hardware on its own accord.

The fact that the third game in a series can only sell a mere 274,000 copies of the game (only just surpassing Resistance 1's first-week figures by a mere 30,000 -- remember: the first game was a launch title) for a console with an install base of roughly 53 million is disappointing to say the least, but not at all surprising.

I do not think the economy is an excuse to use here.......were talking about a $60 game, not a $200-$300+ system. So then it should also affect Gears of War 3 sales, which is currently holding the record for most pre-ordered game ever.

It is a shame that this game has sold this low because it is very well done. Sony has done a decent job for once actually promoting with commercials, ads, etc. Maybe sales will pickup as you said as the months pass, which is what usually happens with these Sony releases.

PS3 has been spitting out games all year long... Gears is the only worthy game the 360 has spit out in months (one can argue all year), in comparison with first/second party games.

And it is Gears, not a good comparison (that is more of a comparison to Uncharted as far as "blockbuster"). PS3 splits their followings between Killzone, Resistance, SOCOM, soon to be Uncharted, spit out several HD collections (GoW and soon ICO), inFamous 2, etc. Dead Island also pushed some sales in there.

Their first party title saturation has been much more than everyone waiting all year for Gears on the 360.

Christmas it will pick up a lot more.

At least that is how I see it. But we will see.

Don't get me wrong here, I love that Sony has an abundance of exclusives which is one of the reasons why I prefer to game on the PS3. This company lost a lot of their 3rd party exclusives this generation and they said to hell with that, were going to build new IP's and bring some old ones from the PS1/2 era over. This is one area I feel like MSFT has lost their way in which is a shame. It's not taking this to a MSFT vs. Sony argument. My point is that this month is huge between R3, Dead Island, NHL, several PSN/XBL offerings, and Gears 3.......then add the last 2 weeks of August where DeusEX and Madden released. I don't think the HD offerings make that big of a dent initially, so its a little unfair to throw in GOW and ICO collections as being these huge sellers off the bat.

I also think that Resistance 2 left a very bad taste in people's mouth. Reading around message boards, the first thing people ask is if R3 is better than R2 and they couldn't believe how IG ruined the franchise in 1 game. Me personally, I enjoyed R2 and have played through campaign a handful of times.

Take the Ratchet & Clank games on the PS3, they have sold terribly, even over time. It sucks because the R&C games this generation to me are even better than the PS2 ones.

I think the reasons why the sales are down is just like he said this has been a very busy few months for games. On top of all the big non sports games that came out they are some some good sports games like NBA 2K12 and both football games. With the economy the way it is I think people are just gonna buy 1 r 2 games new and wait for the others used or till christmas time and let someone else spend the $. I dont fell rushed to go out and buy this game new since I doubt we will see R4 on the ps3.

Agreed as well. Sony has the market saturated. I am a huge gamer, and I just recently purchased Killzone 3 (Helghast Edition) cause Amazon had it for $42 brand new.

And I will be getting Resistance 3 pretty soon, but more than likely after Uncharted 3, ICO Collection, etc. etc.

No rush. Sooooo[Too] many games.

This game to me felt like it had the mechanics of Halo/Resistance 1 with the atmosphere of Half-Life. It was very well done and I didn't want to put the controller down. The environments and enemies were varied this time around, especially with the introduction of several new Chimera into the mix. It never felt like you were going from set piece to set piece, everything flowed together very well. My one complaint is that some of the cutscenes were very short and just felt like they cut out too quickly.

so how was the graphics compared to the others? they looked better in the ads

Also has anyone tried this out with 3D or sharpshooter?

LOL! His cutscenes for MGS2 and 4 were harboring on the ridiculous side at times in terms of length.

The graphics are much better than the first two games, really makes it feel like the world has been over run by the Chimera. Very apocalyptic look to it.

It's a great game but it did kinda lost in mix of quality titles.

I am a ps3 only owner but if I was given the choice I would have gotten Gears 3 over this and I love this game.

Just something about the Gears games says must own where as the resistance games (to me at least) aren't in that same league. I'm one of those people would loved R1 but wasn't a huge fan of R2 but I still bought R3 and am really glad I did. Only problem I'm running into now is that none of my regular gamer buddies have bought it so I haven't gotten into online co-op which was one of the main reasons I bought it....
