    Re: Dark Souls (PS3/360)

Got the game and made it through the tutorial lol

Took me a few tries to kill the boss, it's been a while since I had these controls. Will be trial and error (I mean death) to get used to how to time the parrying.

Fun game though, and I'm really trying to get myself out of the "get annoyed when I die" mindset...if you chill a bit this game gets way more fun.

Those black armored dark wraiths are a nightmare...you end up fight 2-3 at a time and they overwhelm you.

Like I said earlier the Tombs and catacombs made we want to punch people.

You can use the water wheel on the other side to go up the other way to the Valley of the Drakes entrance. It is much faster and safer.

I used the shortcut by the bonfire in the depths and got out without having to deal with anymore basilisks or anything. Sen's fortress next

Past Senn's Fortress, get to first bonfire in Anor Londo, talked to the keeper there, dropped the controller and attacked, now I have hours of soul farming to forgive this damned sin.

Although I could just kill her and use the one in Senn's Fortress, it's only a short walk back...

Crazy lol. I'm still farming before the first boss after the tutorial so I can level up Dex so I can use the bow and get the Drake sword.

What did that guy do to the axe to make it electric so early on?

Farming for souls is fun in this game though, and I look forward to getting awesome weapons and killing huge bosses. Farming helps you learn your techniques better for sure.

Do you guys really parry much, or is blocking better? I can get the parrying a few times, but doing it super consistent is tough. I usually prefer the block/backstab type kills.

Is parrying that important down the line?

A tip that works for me in parrying is to hit the parry button when your opponents arm moves forward for the strike.

I find backstabbing to be hard, I don't know what it is about it, but I can never get the right angle or something.

                        I typically use parry/riposte.

I'm the complete opposite. For block/backstab here's my method:

                          1) Hold LB (or L1 on PS3) to block.
                          2) After you block (and the enemy is stunned), let go of LB and run around to the left of the enemy.
                          3) Hit RB (or R1 on PS3) to backstab and you should get the animation.

I find that the left is easier because it depends which hand the enemy holds the weapon with, and you need to end up being right behind them.

I'll keep messing with my parry timing though, I need to grind anyways so worth trying to learn.

Parry/riposte/dodge or block/counter depends on your build. Do you want to be a fast warrior with a small shield? Do you want to be a heavily armored tank? Once you start finding the heavy armor and shields, you can absorb just about any blow like it's nothing.

It's all about how you want to play.

As for the electricity, it was gold pine resin. There is also rotten pine resin to temporarily add poison and charcoal resin to temporarily add fire.

                              I'm a pyromancer, but I think I'm going to be a higher strength/block guy...

I like quick thief types, but in this game I think I'm better as a tank-ish type with a bigger shield

At the final boss....hes killed me atleast 30 times.

After seeing there is an infinite xp cheat.... I dont think I will do a second play-through, pvp is gonna suck because of that.
