If Steam doesn't unlock this game at exactly midnight EST, I'm going to throw a hissy fit like a grounded teenage girl.

I've read the reviews today around the internet and I'm seriously pumped. I don't know if I've been this excited before about a game that will inevitably end up on my list of dozens and dozens of unfinished games. I've put in over a hundred hours in Oblivion and I'm still getting new quests and I'm sure this game will be the same.

I'm kind of feeling sorry right now for the new Assassin's Creed game. You don't want to have the release date that follows this and Modern Warfare 3. Gamers are going to be either flush out of cash or time to play.

I think steam unlocks at Midnight PST.

I'll probably run as a Conan-type Nord with a two handed weapon and maybe a fall back of sword/shield. I plan to just run as a neutral to good guy and if I want to play again, I'll go the stealthy evil bastard route.

I just need to stock up on Energy Drinks and anything that can be heated up in the microwave quickly.

At this point I'm ready to throw options in a hat and whatever I pull I go with..... That's the only way I'll be decided by the time I play. If not I'll be at the character creation pages for 10 hours.

I’ll admit, I’m in the camp that believes Bethesda’s games have been on a downward slide since the hallowed Morrowind. I got plenty out of Oblivion (especially the thieves’ and assassins’ guilds arcs) but it did feel hollow, bland and awkward compared to its predecessor. Fallout 3 I found boring, contrived and clumsy, though I deeply wanted to like it. I seriously worried Skyrim would, for all its talk of lavishness, depth and dragons, continue the transformation into a trudging, consolified action game filled with clunky acting. It does not. It slams on the brakes then reverses at dangerous speed back into Morrowind territory. Some things are lost (e.g. Persuasion is a sadly watered-down, irregular affair now mostly to do with shopping), many things are changed (e.g. recharging magic items can be done anywhere) and it’s certainly not as weird (no flying or Siltstriders), but it truly reclaims that sense of being in another world, rather than a generic soft-focus, over-familiar fantasyscape.

Not only is Skyrim, for my money, the game of the year, but… oh this is hard. Very hard. I’m sorry Morrowind – I love you, but I don’t need you anymore. I think, at last, there is a new Best Elder Scrolls Ever.

So here I was, thinking I could not get this game tonight because I was going to have to wait for my paycheck to cash tomorrow.

I guess I'll be at Nerdfest.

God I hate midnight releases. It's why I do it for only a select few games. I've done it for Halo 3, GTA IV and Madden 11 I do believe.

It's going to be cold as balls, but hopefully not TOO many people will be there.
