    Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Had a few encounters on the road already, but so much better than in Oblivion. The first one was a woman archer on the road with her dog. My first thought is "ah ****, bandits/highwayman/whatever", and hover my finger on the R key (draws your sword). I especially get edgy when I hear her shout "I hear something!" as I'm drawing near. She enters my line of sight but doesn't attack, so at this point I'm wondering if it's a bug. Not so - she eventually gives up looking for whatever it was, and at this point I strike up a conversation and (accidentally, because I'm still learning the menus) bought some kind of pelt off her. Turns out she was just a hunter.

Later I was walking along and all of a sudden I hear a wolf growl from somewhere. I freeze and look around, and he's sitting on a rock ledge a short ways away from me. Once I saw it, this time I drew - and he charged at just that moment. No trouble with it of course as it met its end on the tip of my sword, I just thought those two sequences played out amazingly well.

This, SO MUCH. I'm actually just using the slow-as-hell walk key (shift or caps lock) and just taking in everything around around me for now - just incredible.

Oh yeah, I also rested at the first inn I ran across and got a "Well Rested" active effect - all skills improve 10% faster for the next 8 hours.

Good idea about the slow walk! A nice stroll across the land

Lol, I do that a lot. I'll start a character but realize I'd rather be something cooler, and start over.

Anyway, are you some of guys still playing since midnight?

Started as an Argonian, but love the way you use magic in this game so I switched to a Breton.

I am currently still playing from midnight. It is now just past 4 AM my time.

Also one more subtle thing that I have loves so far is the refocusing of your vision looking from light to dark or dark to light. Even if it is just a slight change your vision has to adjust.

Well, I just had my first freeze on PS3. Very similar to all the Fallout freezes I always read about but never experienced myself...

                            Hopefully that doesn't continue.

Just got a follower, dropped straight cash homey on armor for him, gave him my second best weapon, dropped straight cash homey again for a horse. Guess who has to walk on foot everywhere I go?

                              Until he dies of course.

This game is fantastic so far. By this point I hung up oblivion. Way better and way less stiff and dull. Dragon fights...amazing.
