If you feel like backing out of the cave, their is a sword called Goldbrand that does extra damage to Undead. Pretty easy to get if your interested.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Started a new game, my second. I did the whole sneaky cat thing on my first playthrough and didn't touch magic except alchemy and enchanting.
I want to run a mage now. I barely scratched the mage college in my first playthrough so I'm going to go straight there I think from the beginning.
I rolled a Breton. Any advice or tips? I'm not really sure where to begin with a mage. Fire? Lightning? Conjuration? Healing?

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I like Destruction magic because it's straight forward.
I'm mostly a fire guy.
My only real advice, because I'm only level 15 with this mage character, is to find and equip as much Magicka Regeneration enchanted stuff as you can. You'll be surprised how often you're running out while in combat.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Destruction is fire/lighting/ice? Do you basically favorite a spell of each kind to be able to call up which one suits the occasion?
Or just go straight fire? Both hands?

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
You'll need the Destruction Dual Casting perk as well as the Apprentice Destruction perk for it to be useful to you, though. And the Augmented Flames perk is one I'd recommend to.
Do keep Ice Spike and Lightning Bolt, the other two Apprentice level Destruction spells on hand though.
If a dragon starts spitting out fire at you, you'll kill it a hell of a lot faster with Ice Spike. Same goes for any other fiery enemy you might come across. It's useful to invest in the Augmented Frost perk as well, too, if you can, for this reason.
Lightning spells drain Magicka quicker, so they're useful when going up against other magic toting enemies. Useful spell to keep on hand, but I find these battles to be less common outside of the College of Winterhold missions, so I haven't bothered putting a perk into Augmented Shock yet as I don't think it's totally necessary.
Also, don't try running with spells you don't have the perks for. I have Fireball unlocked right now, for example, which is the Adept level spell (a step up from Firebolt) and while it's wicked as hell I'm not a high enough level to have the Adept Destruction perk yet, so all I can really do is fire off one or two of them if I'm lucky before I run out of Magicka, which cripples you in combat. Always stay with spells you have the perk for.
Oh, and even though you'd be specializing in Destruction, keep Restoration handy for free health in case you start running low. That said, run with Destruction in both hands unless you're absolutely near death because a dual-casted Destruction spell is way, way more powerful than a one handed one. If you are near death, though, run and hide and do some Restoration. Might not be a terrible idea to invest a perk in Novice Restoration at some point, too, so you don't have to drain all your Magicka restoring your health.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
If you roll mage it is usefull to up conjuration. Summon a tank to get you out of hairy situations.
I made a one handed conjuration mage. Maxed enchanting and smithing, and hes unstoppable. Walking around with two dremora lords is just overkill when Im already tanking as a mage. My destruction magic is around 50, so I am not completely dependent on mage.
I just can't give up my swords when I want a magic based character. I feel so screwed when I run out of magic with no second option.
Right now Im trying to roll a illusion rogue on Master. Its hard getting illusion up for me with everything being so freaking hard to kill once you pull them.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Once I get back to being sneaky cat and tackle the Dark Brotherhood quests I'll enjoy my preferred character type that much more.
Also, this is my first time playing with any of the DLC. I guess I'm expected to see Vampires around a lot or something?

Seriously, start and finish the Dawnguard DLC once you can. Random vampire attacks in town are a bitch and a half especially on higher difficulties.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I feel that vulnerability too. I'm always most uncomfortable playing a mage in all rpgs. That's part of the fun of playing it that way though.
