You brought up two interesting points.
I have a grade school and a community college in my city. Slowly, but surely, attendance peaked from the grade school to the CC. Now, my grade school is only at about 270/550 and my CC is 700/500 lol. School bus stops aren't an issue since the grade school was at one time over-flowing.

As for the ferry, I pulled this from the wiki:
"Ferry Terminal acts as a dock that transports low and medium wealth Sims and medium and high wealth tourists into and out of the city. Ferry Terminal comes with a Passenger Ferry Dock, it can be augmented with a Cruise Ship Dock. Cruise Ship Dock accepts medium and high wealth tourists into your city while Passenger Ferry Dock transports low and medium wealth commuters between various cities in region"

Trying to decide if I should take the plunge on this game. I have too much time on my hands right now. A distraction would be nice!

Been playing at will for 2-3 days logging on and off same server (NA East 4) every so often. Not one problem.

Never played a SimCity game before. Which version would be the best to start with?

Played for 6 hours straight without even noticing time going by......that is umm kind of scary. I just completely zone out without paying attention to anything else. Only time I get up is to go to the bathroom.

Most of the guys probably play at a faster speed...I play at speed 1 too though, so mine took a while to grow too. I try to play this game more at a micro level - seeing if people can get to where they're going, what neighborhoods can benefit more from services, that kind of stuff. It helps me plan out larger moves that affect the whole city. I love that you can click on a single Sim and just follow them around town, it makes that approach a lot of fun to use.

Just set myself up a Coal mining operation and I'm bringing in around 5,000 simoleons a month. And even when that runs out in 6 months or so I have another coal deposit about the same size that I can plop down another mine on. Stackolee Ravine is "stacked", indeed.

I could probably expand that operation, but I think it'd just get me spending money too fast and I'd run into problems.

Playing at speed 1 is like torture. It actually pisses me off because sometimes it will set the speed to 1 when you are editing placed buildings. Going to post some pictures from my city shortly...

Calling it a night. Like mad skills, the time has escaped me.

Here are my screencaps (click on them for full size).

So far, I got the top half (I think it's the east side) of the city how I want it. The other - not so much, just kinda threw stuff everywhere. Going to need to really consolidate on the wind farm soon and maybe go Nuclear. But the city is definitely high tech. Still got some ground pollution that I need to get rid of from our lower tech days....

This view is looking straight down the main road that connects to the highway. The waterline is also in need of some work. You can see JTay's city in the far left.

This is behind the University, which I allocated more space to for future development. Also shows the west side of town which needs to be reorganized better once I figure out how to reduce the footprint of the solar & wind farm.

Noticed a glitch: I was buying my water from neighboring cities. The game showed a huge surplus from the neighboring cities, yet I was only using a small percentage of what was available. Meanwhile, my city has a water crisis. I built a water tower, which solved things, but I shouldn't have had to do that. Maybe the game limits how much you can buy from other cities. but if that's true, the game should tell you.

I think it tells you how much you're buying from a neighboring city when you bring up that service on the region screen. That amount may or may not fill your needs though.

Indeed, I have a big water surplus right now because I had to build a second one to stretch my water grid across the whole map. It just wasn't reaching one of the far corners without me putting another tower closer to it.

BTW, I noticed either you or buick was having sewage problems...I can handle some of that now too if you need it, I have 2 pumps.

Yeah, it tells you how much your buying, but I think I should have described my situation better. My problem was that I had the money to buy more and more was available, but despite my instructions my city still wasn't purchasing more. In other words, say there is 8 kw of water available to purchase. I click "buy" to purchase that water, as I currently have a 5 kw shortage. Instead of buying the 5 kw I need, only 2 kw gets purchased, leaving me with a 3 kw shortage. I am forced to buy a water tower or pump, even though I shouldn't have to, as there is plenty available in the region to cover my needs. I don't know why this happens, but it is an annoying bug.

As for the sewage offer, thank you. Fortunately, though, I'm all set. My current problem is garbage. I have the dump space, and I keep adding trucks, but not all the cans are getting collected.

On an unrelated note, I discovered a neat little trick: if you place your water pump next to a sewage treatment plant, you get an unlimited supply of water, since the sewage treatment plant feeds water into the ground for the pump to acquire.

Finally, I was invaded by zombies again, which once again decimated mass amounts of my population. As if that wasn't bad enough, aliens then attacked via UFO. I would definitely not live in my city in real life.

I was just about to say how much I hate having to keep moving my water pumps around every couple years. That makes perfect sense. Too bad I put my sewage treatment plant on top of ground pollution from the old sewage release pipes. Oh well, that's what the water filter is for.

Usually goes into a reservoir to be used again, Vegas area wastewater goes into Lake Meade/Colorado River for example.
