So here is what I did:

I made a region with one of the 16 city regions. It's called OSVille, and it's invite only.

Send me a friend request, and I'll get you an invite.

Really wanting to cave.. but the servers worry me as my gaming is sort of limited and I will be pissed if I can not play during that time..

Honest answers please.. is this worth buying if you love sim city?

Huge fan of simcity since part 1. Will probably wait until the 15th before I consider buying it (I'm still not quite sure I want origin on my computer).

I never understood the problems with Origin, I play BF3 using it just fine. But that is the only game I use it for, maybe thats why.

It's not the functional problems, it's the EULA.

So I'm pissed. multiple times I've made a city and multiple times I'm unable to find it.. This whole always online thing is an extreme inconvenience since the servers are going down all the time. I'm contemplating getting a refund at this point smh

Didn't realize there was a constant connection requirement for this game. So glad I didn't buy it. Used to enjoy SimCity on the old SNES I believe (someone correct me if that's the wrong platform, can't remember if it was SNES or the N64, but pretty sure it was SNES). Never played on the PC, and looks like I never will. Constant connection for a primarily offline game is a moronic design decision. Mark my words, EA will lose sales on this game because of it.

I'm still interested in the game, but I'm only going to think about getting it after the server problems are fixed. I'm surprised Maxis didn't calculate the load correctly with help from EA, but everyone makes mistakes, I suppose.

The finite resources thing is an interesting dynamic. I am going to run out of oil and have to pivot my city to a different industry at some point, and for some reason that scares the hell out of me, don't want to ruin my city in the process.

I've made a TON of cash selling my oil though to the global market. I'm also importing coal for my power plant at the same time. The trade stuff is something I hadn't even read about prior to launch, pretty cool.

Ran home for lunch so I could get my download started. Between EA, Impulse and Steam I'm racking up quite the collection of download services I use barely once a year as a console player.

EDIT: Well that was anticlimactic. The DL took two minutes tops. Guess the servers have recovered for now.

When you start the game are you missing the "Resume town" button above play now and simcity world? If so then you might have been moved from your normal server. When the simcity splash screen opens the bottom left says your server name and if you move to another server your city will not be there.

I started on Europe East 1, who knows why it picked that for me but when I pick NA west 1 I had no city and I had to pick Europe East again to find my city.

The only issue I have is my friends list is still not showing up in-game.

speak for yourself... I have issues with the functionality!
it always wants to install DLC for a game I do not currently have installed... cause that makes sense.

Yeah I played in the correct server which was one of the europe servers and it never saved. I really wish they gave us an option of playing offline

Yeah, I know there are people that aren't having issues, but it seems like there are enough people having issues that Polygon moved their review score down to an 8 temporarily (a move I agree with but they are seriously getting torn to pieces over it). Once I see that Maxis has fixed most issues, I'll probably end up getting the game.
