Did you do something like bulldoze a dump? Is your industrial clean tech? Planting trees can help get rid of ground pollution.Comment

Re: SimCity 5
Got 4 cities up and running. When everything in the game is working like it should be, the game is highly addictive. This game still needs a good 10 more servers IMO to have the game be more stable, either that or turn the always online BS feature off. Some things don't work right that is for sure.
1. Trade depots. I making well over 150K a day, don't see any of that money ever hitting my budget.
2. Casinos, I was making 20K a day, none of it hit my budget, so I just got rid of it.
3. Pro stadium is hit or miss. People said they wanted Monster Truck, I threw it, nobody came. Threw a legend of rock concert, tons of people came but yet nobody asked for it. That pisses me off considering how damn much money it cost to throw ONE event.
4. Taxes are funny as hell how inconsistent they are. People complaining about taxes too high but yet they at 3%, WTF ?
5. I will never again gift money. Every time I do it, it disappears into thin air and the city I give it to don't ever receive it.
Despite all that, I played this game for 6 hours straight today. It is just highly addictive. I seen one of the achievements was to make a million dollars a day. I was thinking if everything worked the way it should, it would be reachable.
Also what the hell is the purpose of Maxis Man ? I swear he seems so useless for how much he costs and how much he charges per the hour. Kind of disappointed that the large police station, large firehouse and hospital is so weak. For how much they cost, I expected to them to do a WAY better job.
And I swear the game trolls me. Every time I get above 100K people and start racking in the money like a saudi prince, 1 of the two always happen:
A) Zombie attack and they eat 1/4 my population.
B) Earthquake and it destroys half of my expensive services.Comment

Re: SimCity 5
I restarted the game and the ships finally came to the dock. But now there mass siren sounds all over my city, yet there's no crime in progress, no fire, no ambulances, no disasters.
I restart again. It's gone.Comment

Re: SimCity 5
I had to dump my OSville city. I was at 140k population, but that isn't the problem. I had 134k people from the region flooding my city and gridlocking every street. It brought my whole infrastructure crumbling down. I couldn't get coal from the global markets, because the traffic was so clogged coming into my city. So power ran out. My emergency services were basically stuck in traffic and couldn't do anything about crime or fires. I started bleeding money because businesses left and people couldn't get to their jobs due to the traffic. My recycling plant came to a screeching halt because my garbage trucks couldn't get to homes to pick up the recycling, so that shut down my tv, computer, and processor plants. I was once making 800k to 900k a month. At the end I was bleeding $18k a hour. While I was still making money on my electronics and could survive, the simulation just wasn't fun anymore.
I think traffic is horribly broken and somebody needs to explain to me why 140k people where in my city a day when I have exactly 0 tourism attractions. Perhaps there were jobs there to be filled or something. Not sure.Comment

Re: SimCity 5
They probably was coming in to shop. I know that is happening to one of my cities, I have shoppers flooding in from another city. But yeah traffic is still fubar even though they claimed they fixed it.Comment

Re: SimCity 5
I grabbed SimCity 4 Deluxe ages ago when it was really cheap on Amazon. A couple of bucks or something. Never got around to playing it.
Installed it the other day and was mucking around with it but I have to admit, it has been really boring. Maybe because I don't fully understand it but if the new one is anything like SC4, I think I'll be bored within 30 mins.
For someone who has never played a SimCity game ever, I started on hard and I have no trouble turning a profit each month. I don't understand the different zones. I would assume you start with low residential zoning but when I place medium or even high, the lots still fill in and the same with commercial. In a city with 4,000 population. I'm confused with it and the point of the game.
Is the new SimCity anything like this? Given there is no demo, I don't want to purchase and be bored within half an hour like I was was 4.Comment

Re: SimCity 5
Pretty much the goal is to make a city to your liking and make tons of cash. That is about it.Comment

Re: SimCity 5
Doesn't look like offline play will be coming to SimCity 2013 anytime soon.

I don't see myself ever picking up this game, with that stated. It breaks my heart, but I'll be just fine with SimCity 3000 Unlimited for the time being. I hope those who have the game enjoy it.Comment

Re: SimCity 5
Residential = homes where your sims live
Industrial = where the sims work
Stores = where they shop
Now that is out of the way, any sim in your REGION that is connected to you can work or shop in your city without actually living in your city.
Even though you have up to 16 cities per a region, they all broken up into 4 city clusters. So at the max, you can only be connected to 3 other cities UNLESS you have an international airport.
By default, all the sims are dumb. Because of this they do dumb things, like cause a lot of fires, have a high crime rate and tend to produce and work in jobs that causes a lot of pollution.
You make your sims smarter by making schools. Which are grade school, high school, community college and university. Smarter sims produce better factories that are less polluting which in turn produce more high end stores. To get richer sims in your city you have to increase the land value. You increase land value by putting parks and tourist attractions every where.
You also have to learn how to use the tax system. Once you get the department of finance, you get separate tax level by class(low, medium and upper). Quite naturally higher end factories, sims or shops will come to your city if the tax for their class is too high.
Basically you want a balance of the 3 zones. Don't ever want your industry or shop zones bigger then your residential. When that happens a worker shortage warning will pop up. Now if there are tons of people in cluster of 4 cities, some of they come and fill the void. However if there isn't a lot of people in your cluster, then those factories and shops will close up due to no workers. Then you will see dozens of abandoned buildings all over the place.
Same thing happens if you have high tech industries but a dumb population. They will close due to unskilled worked force.
Just some the basics to get you started.
1. Keep your industry and residential zones FAR away from each other. People don't like living next to factories and they will end up getting sick more often.
2. Always zone houses 1st, then industry second and shops 3rd.
3. Water tower and power source need to be built asap. People won't move in without it and will end up moving out if they go without it for too long.
4. Rich sims are health nuts, education nuts and hate crime. Therefore you going to need a lot of clinics, police stations and schools to keep them happy and attract them to your city.
5. Tourists make you money. Build a train station, airport, regional bus depot or ferry to get them into your city. The better your mass transit system, the more attractive your city will be.
Far as when to re-zone, it will come eventually when you run out of space for something you need or you run out of water in one spot and have to go across the city to tap into some water over there.Comment
