    Re: Day Z

i picked it up yesterday and had a good time playing it. your write ups phobia helped remind me of how much fun i used to have with the mod.

the game runs well on my system with the default settings it gave me. i met up with a friend and we ran to cherno looting along the way. is it normal that there was minimal loot? .57 build i believe of the game. my friend passed out unconscious and i tried to force feed him but it didnt work so he asked me to kill him which i obliged.

right now im outside of cherno about to go in and loot and gear up, if i can find anything lol. does balota airfield still have weapons?

Last time I played loot was very low which is what they intended from the start. They're just now getting the system in place now to balance some things out and have it closer to what they always wanted. So don't expect loot like the mod or how the game used to be.

i found 1 pepsi in 3 cities(kamy-prig-elecktro) and alot of t-shirts. i think the server was bugged or looted. i understand if the loot is less than the mod was but anytime i watch a stand alone dayz stream they get some stuff from each city they go through.

is everyone running the stable version? any experiences on the experimental version? i thought it recieved a new patch yesterday?

          Re: Day Z

Played for maybe 2 hours max last night. Game was running poorly, then I remembered I just installed new drivers and sure enough when I checked, my PC wasn't running SLI. Turned it on and performance was back to how it used to be. Nothing amazing, but I could at least run Normal in cities and not have a slideshow in front of me.

Had a random guy kill me when I was just eating bacon and wasn't really geared. He wasted a whole 30rd clip of what sounded like an MP5 on me. Fortunately he never saw my buddy and I spawned right down the road and was able to gear up again as well as I was before death. Then right before calling it a night I found a Humvee that had loads of ammo and a couple of pistols. Unfortunately the ammo was so diverse and only had one clip for one of the two pistols at the site, so I took the pistol and the mag with it to go along with my Magnum I was already carrying and some ammo.

It's been so long since I played, but guns seemed a little easier to find than when they initially made loot more sparse. It still seemed like a good balance though and I definitely want to keep playing this again because I missed the unique rush it gives.

              DayZ Game Night

So me and my buddy decided we are going to start playing on 1st person standard hardcore servers only from here on out and they must be almost fully maxed out with 30+ people. No one can use the 3rd person camera cheat, server has night time, and standard health needs. It gets boring playing on 24/7 Day servers and ones that turn off the need to eat or drink. Isn't this game supposed to represent a struggle to survive

So we both start off as fresh spawns and just by chance we both spawn near each other. He spawns on the island off the coast and I spawned in Kambiwobo, after a quick discussion where to meet we determine the police station in kambiwobo.

As I'm looting the police station I find several pistols and 1 mag to go with my pistol, excellent start!! I also discovered a lockpick and locked all the police station doors waiting for my buddy to arrive. He has now almost made it to the police station but is shivering and soaking wet, so he decided to check the house next door to see if he could find any dry clothes. About a min later he says

Buddy: "Did you just walk into the same house I'm in?"
Me: "No, I'm still in the police station".
Buddy: :::Screaming::: "Back away man, OHHHHHHH **** I just knocked him out. I hit him with my hammer and he went out cold. He came at me swinging".

So I'm trying to get the doors unlocked as fast as possible to go help, I do have a loaded gun lol. Just as I'm getting across the road, the violent guy comes sprinting out the house, so I take off after him hollering "Give me that jacket *******, you want to punch people!!" Now of course he does not stop so I pop two rounds into him, then take his jacket to give to my buddy so he does not die of hypothermia.

As we continue on searching Kambiwobo laughing about the exchange we both find rifles with ammo, mosin's. Then my buddy spots a tent on the shelf in a house near us, so we go in to grab it. We both didn't have a backpack so we decided to head up the mountain above kambiwobo, drop off all our excess gear then loot kambiwobo properly afterwards. Just then a guy runs into the room with us with zombies chasing him. Now the house has 3 zombies outside, this guy standing in the doorway looking at us. So I start hollering "CLOSE THE DOOR!!!!!! CLOSE THE DOOR!!!". He doesn't move a inch, just standing looking at us. So my buddy pops him with his hammer, knocks him out & shuts the door. We are now rolling laughing that this hammer is doing work lol. Problem is now we are stuck in a house with 3 zombies outside, time to make a break for the woods! We line up at the back door, and sprint out dodging between houses attempting to break line of sight. Just as we hit the tree line, we lose the zombies and make our trek up the steep slope to find a suitable tent location.

After dropping off our gear we make our way back to kambiwobo. We must of hit 8 buildings or more and discovered nothing, so we decide to continue west to Elektro.....it was going to be dangerous but we needed, food, water, and backpacks badly since we are both starving and thirsty. Just as we are hitting the outskirts of kambiwobo we hear a truck coming down the road. So we take crouching cover positions in the tall grass on the corner of a couple sheds. The truck blows on by not spotting us, then turns towards the police station. As we are tracking the truck behind us I spot a guy who is geared up running from the police station direction but constantly looking behind him. It appeared the truck spooked him. He stops at the tree line and just continues to observe the truck/driver. So I tell my buddy,

Me: "Should we holler at him?".
Buddy: "I'm not sure, he is loaded down pretty good so I'm sure he has ammo for his weapon".
Me: "He does have a backpack & I'm sure food and water. We can use all this gear if I can make the headshot...IF he stays still"
Buddy: "HAHA I don't know that is pretty ****"
Me: :::Shot rings out::: "He is down, lets dash and grab quickly!"

It was a crappy move on my part and not one I would normally do but desperate time called for desperate measures. It ended up being the right call because he had ammo I needed, dry hat for my buddy, 4 cans of food, a water bottle, a canteen, AND a backpack. So we ducked off in the tree line to gorge on food & water and my buddy to change into the dead guys dry clothes before we continued towards Elektro.

As we hit the outskirts of Elektro, I spot the guard shack. Time to get a vest and hopefully more ammo. We did a little scouting before moving in because this is a high traffic area but noticed nothing out the ordinary. As we are gathering up some gear from the shack we hear a gun battle break out. 8 to 10 shots starting ringing out, not to far away. So we start moving into position so we can get a eye on whats going on, then we spot 3 zombies chasing a guy up a hill. So I tell my buddy to flank around and see if he can get a eye on whats going down, I will watch his back to make sure no one sneaks up from behind. Out of no where a guy with all black gear and a motorcycle helmet on, has his gun at the ready and is flanking my buddy.

Me: :::hollering::: "To your left, a guy closing in NOW!!!!"
              Buddy: "I don't see him"
Me: "He is right on top you creeping behind a bush! **** it, I'm dropping him" :::Shot rings out::: "He is down, his body is tumbling down the hill"

A voice behind me: "I'm sorry" :::Gun shot:::
Me: "I'm dead dude, someone sneaked up behind me"
Buddy: "Dude there is 3 heavily geared out guys near your body, but they are searching for me".
Me: "I bet that guy I downed was their buddy and they were relaying over teamspeak your location that is how they were closing in, but never saw me until I fired. So they originally knew you were there".
              Buddy: "Damn, they got me...haha"

Both Logged off for fresh start another day.

Phobia, this game sounds so awesome. It's so right up my alley, I'm just concerned that it will never come out for ps4 because of how slow the progress has been according to players - like it's still not in a real release state? Another concern is that they will find a way to dumb it down.

I know the simple answer is get a PC gaming rig, but I can't - have a ps4, have a macbook pro and an imac (I edit a lot of video) so there is just no dice on buy ANOTHER computer largely for just one incomplete game. IT does look and sound awesome though - and you're war stories are so badass!

Supposedly the only hang up currently is the new rendering system. Once that is complete then it should be moving to PS4. By all accounts that is supposedly this year, but I doubt it. I'd say 2017 is safe bet.

Oh and thanks, its a really fun game.

Its their plan to have it for console but I dont know how it would work. The inventory management system wont work for consoles (ammo loading for one).

Optimization would be another concern of mine. You got guys with 3 Titans and the best OC cpu who get 40-50fps in cities.

Yeah....I've kinda given up hope honestly and figure there's other survival type games out there...Not sure they'll really make it happen.

                              DayZ Game Night

So picking up where me and my buddy left off from the last write up, we both started as fresh spawns last night. He spawned just east of Elekro and I spawned all the way to the north east. We had a long long trek to meet up with one another. Plus along the trip you have to scout for better clothes, food, and water. Being we are playing on hardcore only servers this becomes even more critical. So us having to scout was going to slow us down even more with us making it to one another alive.

Along the way, I find a mosin with 1 five round clip....yesssssss protection!!! Nothing like having a firearm to defend yourself plus give bargaining power. He also ended up finding a shotgun with ammo so our chances of survival to the meeting point looked pretty good early on. Food, water, and warmer clothes were also discovered and the requirement for items got placed on the back burner as we both made a direct beeline to our meeting point, which was mid way between us.

Now like mentioned before we are on teamspeak together, suddenly I hear him telling someone to put their hands up. They start chatting and the guy was friendly and decided to tag along with my buddy to meet up with me. I then run into a fully decked out guy and had a chat which no bullets were shot.......amazed it was a enjoyable DayZ night of interactions. We decided to go separate ways before telling each other to be safe out there.

Finally I run into my buddy and his tag along, introduced myself to the new guy and we formed a little 3 man squad. We are now intimidating enough to make some moves if need be on jerks/bandits. So we set out towards a decent city of Berezino which would have survivors & loot.

As we hit the city we find a junk yard and start hitting the trunks of the cars. As we are talking and scouting a fresh spawn ends up stumbling into the yard which he is quickly surrounded, told to drop his weapon, and backpack to be sure he was not a threat. He complied, held his hands up the entire time, and he understood it was just for our safety. He then joined our group and our little squad of strangers grew to 4 lol. We then pushed on to the main part of the city looting bigger buildings. We are moving like a well oiled squad. We are moving along walls of buildings in a tactical fashion, it was awesome to see.

I'm point man and we come to the corner of a building. I do a quick peak around when I hear two guys arguing but I can't make out what is being said I just could hear enough to realize it was hostile. So I tell the guys to hold tight we got two survivors about to get into it, I then see a guy with a blue backpack come running from our side of the road into the building across the street from us and he says "**** you ***!!!" Boom gun shot rings out, then a unarmed guy comes sprinting out the house with blood spewing out. Right behind him comes sprinting out armed blue backpack guy hollering for him to "STOP". Now blue backpack guy screwed up and turned wrong way coming out the house giving me a perfect line to land a bullet square in the middle of this criminals back. As the round hits him, it surprises him and he turns towards me running, I let a second round ring out and was unsure if it connected but for that split second he saw where I was. He turned the opposite way and sprinting zig zagging between houses.

Then the hunt began, our 4 man squad spread out and started moving through the city hunting this injured criminal down, we would holler over direct talk "Just come out, no point in hiding". We then spend a good 30 min just going through most the city but couldn't find him for nothing, we even ran across two other survivors and asked if they saw a guy with a blue backpack who could be bleeding. One survivor didn't see him and went about his way, but the other said he saw him at the tree line crouched down. I knew it, he went bandaged up then was using the large open space to try and locate us.

So as we make our way towards the open field, a bullet hits right near me but ricochets off the wall. He then made a big mistake and moved after he shot, my eye quickly picked up the movement. I let ring out two more shots and was 100% one of the rounds had to connect. He then took off sprinting zig zaggin yet again into the city, so like last time we took off after him but lost him.

So yet again we spend a good 30 min or more attempting to find this guy yet finally figured he cut his loses and shot out. So we went back to scouting buildings for loot. I'm up in the second story of a house looting, when I look out the window and what do I see, BLUE BACKPACK one house away creeping along a wall peaking around the corner. I have ONE mosin round left, I line up the shot and let it fly. Again, he takes off running around the corner of the building but this time with my height advantage I could make out which direction he was going to run. So I tell the team to split and surround the house as I give them covering fire (Out of ammo and didn't realize lol). Suddenly I hear one of the guys "YOU GOT HIM!! He is down over here". So we went down, looted his body and laughed/talked about how crazy of a hero moment this all was. This guy blatantly shot a unarmed man then got hunted down and killed by a group of "do gooders", it was a awesome time.

At this point, night was coming in, we moved to the roof top of a high rise building, put a bear trap in the stair way, and was going to pop chem lights to draw out bandits to our location but we suddenly got "You've lost connection for 12...13...14...15..16..17...18", as the server went down. So that is where our adventure will pick up this week!!
