    Re: inFAMOUS: Second Son

Finished the good side last night. Thinking about playing it back through on the dark side.

First Infamous game I ever finished. Had the other two lost interest rather quickly.

This game is quite interesting. Lots of things to do, can get repetitive, but with that said it was still fun to me doing the monotonous tasks.

      Re: inFAMOUS: Second Son

This game is fantastic. If you have not experienced it yet and you enjoyed games like Just Cause 2, Prototype 1+ 2 and the previous Infamous games you will most likely enjoy this.

For me it feels like a hybrid between Infamous and Prototype 2 mainly because the DUP and their bases feel and look similar to the militaristic enemies in Prototype 2.

This is wonderful gaming escapism. There is a story present to tie things together but it is easy to go off and do you own thing albeit the tasks are repetitive but I just don't get tired of any of them.

The game starts quite heavily dependent upon cut scenes that introduce the characters and give the story a start and it is good stuff too. The story elements are interesting and draw you in. However, once you get past the introduction and are free to go your own way the pacing of the story really falls away. For me this was a bit jarring because I liked the developing connection between gameplay segments and story components. Once you are out in the city the pacing of the story is given over to the player to control. You can push on and focus on the story missions or do other stuff.

I think the main character is really enjoyable and the visual differences between power sets is well realised to provide satisfying aesthetic variety. The controls are largely solid and the powers are well mapped so there are a good number of offensive options at your disposal in battle. Climbing buildings is the only thing that is a little off for me. I am very grateful that the Smoke ability allows you to forget about climbing up buildings via the convenience and prevalence of ground level vents.

Game does not necessarily take this type of open world super hero/villain genre to totally new heady heights (other than how pretty it looks) but it is a really fun time nonetheless. I absolutely love it! By no means is this the Playstation equivalent of Ryse on Xbox One. Yes Infamous SS is gorgeous but it is a proper game with enough new generation indulgence and not just a tech demo showing off shallow visual power.

In fact I think that will be the challenge for games on this Gen to deliver experiences that are carried by other legitimate innovations or enhancements that are not graphics related. Innovations or enhancements that expand gameplay and story, the stuff that adds new found depth and substance to looks.

Same here. Played about an hour Saturday night, and that's it. Hopefully this weekend allows some time to jump back in, because then it's off on a business trip next week.

            Re: inFAMOUS: Second Son

As amazing as this looks, this game actually has that sort of plastic, unrefined look that games like Resistance: Fall of Man or Motorstorm had when the PS3 dropped. Which means things are going to get RIDICULOUS in a few short years.

            Just insane.

Anywho. Just beat the game. I took the Hero route. I'm starting my Infamous route. And I can already tell I'm going to like it better. Mainly because not only is it easier to do evil things, but it's, sadistically, much more fun.

I mean, you wreck DuP's stuff so thoroughly that guys lay down their weapons and surrender? Pfft....SQUARE! ALL THINGS IN THIS UNIVERSE TURN TO ASHES! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!

            *ahem*

            So...it's wickedly fun.

Ha. I was thinking about this as well. I know there will be a lot of pressure on the first release titles, but honestly what I'm really excited about is the thought of what a sequel of this or (what I was really thinking about) 1886 will look like 2-3 years from now.

Other than that, zero issues here. Love the game, hopefully it gets some cool DLC/expansion.
This occurred to me the other night, too. SP came out and said something in the area of 30-40 hours IIRC. If they doubling it up to account for the good and bad differences then that's a little deceptive to me. I definitely plan on going through the bad side as soon as this game rolls the credits, though. I feel like playing the good side first has allowed me to really explore the mechanics of the gameplay and explore the map so that way I can cause pure, unrestrained havoc on Seattle on the next go around.
Before last night I was wondering how much replay value the game would have once districts are cleared and how empty the map would feel with all the DUP structures taken out. Last night all I did was to clear the rest of the first island and to take out any blips on the radar along the way. It is really amazing how much the game is similar to Saboteur. Even the story has some of the same beats and character traits.

Is the Paper Trail a powerset mission or just a side mission? I did the first sequence, but haven't gotten back online to look at the evidence.

I'm enjoying it a lot. Maybe I suck but I've found myself dying a lot lately in the last two districts. Looking forward to progressing more. I know I'm almost at the end and I actually can't wait to start my evil streak.

Paper trail has been cool so far. Looking forward to the second episode dropping.

One other issue is switching between powers. It always seems like you're never near enough power sources to use what you bring into a given confrontation. I know some are scripted and what not, but I like to roll with Neon as much as I can. It's such a fitting style. I'm a sniper through and through and love the light speed dash thing to evade.

Though...one of the later powers became even more useful once I figured out how easy it makes things.

Also one of the little things I like is the enemy AI isn't omniscient. If you go where they can't see you, they fire on your last known position, have to reposition to get a bead on you, and will shout out your location when they do spot you.

There's a lot of Cole and Sly Cooper references in this game. It makes me so happy.

Yeah, but this one was even more so. Because the missions were exactly the same in each district. Skyrim at least changed it up a little in terms of what you were actually doing.

BUT, with that said, I enjoyed it a lot. I think the gameplay makes up for it.

Yeah, I remember saying awhile back that as good as some games looked on both systems at launch, and even as good as Tomb Raider looks on PS4, I really was waiting to see games developed specifically for one next-gen console, so not even talking about a game like Titanfall, but games like Second Son and Ryse where nothing started somewhere else and was just ported over in higher resolution, and so far, in that department, "Next Gen" is off to a fantastic start. Imagine what we wiill be getting in a couple years. I absolutely love my PS4 purchase, this game has just taken my enthusiasm to the next level.

That's something else. Been a while since I've played a game with difficult, but fun boss fights. Most games you just use a different power or whatever. But you gotta move around constantly and pick your spots or they will tear you to bits.
