Ireland is easy. First gobble up Ireland. Then move to Brittany, or Wales if still independent. Then go for Scotland. Finally, save up boat loads of money for you massive mercenary invasion of England. Then you win.

Not sure if I'm the only one that didn't know this, but a good piece of advice I got, being that I'm a newbie, from one of the videos is to not get discouraged if not much happens in the first 100 years or so. I restarted like 3 times because I was convinced I was doing something wrong because there just wasn't much going on. I eventually found that advice and use the time to kind of get familiar with my surroundings and make my evil plans.

Holy hell this is addicting. I just spent 30 minutes studying potential husbands for my daughter. Hey, she's the only one I've got, can't have some creeper take her away!

I love Paradox games. Every single one can suck you in and lose you for hours.

Just tried to become king of Ireland, and while I was making good progress, I made one mistake, my kingdom split and my half brother seized my kingdom while I rotted in jail.

            How awesome?

I just downloaded the game this afternoon and tried to play around in it. Why are all of my Kings/future Kings perverts?

Lots of little things I've been finding through play nows. Just things like setting up message pop ups etc..

Did dive more into vids for V2. I also watched some HoI.. and will probably leave that one alone..

I can't believe I haven't really heard of this game until now. I am a former board gamer so this is right up my alley. Bought the game and DLC pack with the Steam sale yesterday. Pleasantly surprised to learn that it runs on my laptop even though I don't meet the minimum GPU requirements.

This game is definitely overwhelming to start. Does anyone have a recommended character to start with after doing the tutorials?

Ireland is a nice place to start its mostly just counts and dukes. You will have 100 or so years (at the 1066 start date) before Scotland or England start to interfere in Ireland. That's how I started as the count of Dublin (you also inherit another county from your father to). Make it your goal to unite Ireland. Spain is also a good start a lot tougher but much more goes on. At the 1066 start you family is divided between the kingdoms you have to keep a close watch on your family. With the Muslims to the south there's sure to be a lot of holy wars.

patch 1.102 was released along side a couple of small DLCs(celtic portrait pack, celtic unit pack and Dynasty shields III).

                      Spoiler

along the lines of DLC, there are 2 more planned for August, however, don't think they have been announced, so not sure what they are yet. they are not supposed to be big DLCs, but also are not supposed to be pictures, unit packs, or music.

CKII and some DLC are 75% off at greenmangaming.

I think all but The Old Gods and the 3 small DLC released today are 75% off.

It's only a 1 say sale, and as I post this, it had just under 17 hours left.

This game is so ridiculously amazing. I'm getting the hang of a lot of things, but I feel I've made a lot of mistakes this game save. I started as a county in Scotland and it's pretty hard. The whole country has been taken over by the ****ing Norse *******s and it makes it difficult to do much of anything.

I've heard a county in Spain is a nice place to start. Thoughts?

I started my first playthrough as the count of Lecce and managed to knock off my brother who made a claim to be next in line. My first son died at age 5, but my new heir Lancelin was just born. Overall, this game is sick, can't wait to buy Old Gods down the line.

I tested one out last night. Three months in, I was destroyed by my great uncle in Leon. He died a month later and left the Duchy to his nephew, who grew ill and left it back to me, his nephew. So yeah, it's a wild time down there with that and the Muslim influence.

I started as a count in Castille and it didn't last long. The Muslim factions down there basically rolled over the Spanish kingdoms. The Spanish kingdoms have a claim or are heirs to the other kingdoms so if you can consolidate quickly you might stand a chance but I found it very difficult starting as a count. That being said, I'm still learning the game so probably not the best place for a noob to start.
