I started as a count in Castille and it didn't last long. The Muslim factions down there basically rolled over the Spanish kingdoms. The Spanish kingdoms have a claim or are heirs to the other kingdoms so if you can consolidate quickly you might stand a chance but I found it very difficult starting as a count. That being said, I'm still learning the game so probably not the best place for a noob to start.

I just started as a Duke in Castille, with 2 counties, so maybe I'll have a little more of a chance. Probably not, but I shall see.

So yeah, Castille is impossible. I always get dragged into a war and there's really nothing you can do. So many factions get formed that if I don't join, it's war, and if I do join, the King declares war on me.

GAMEPLAY:
- Changed the way levies reinforce (to fix a rounding bug.) This will overall reduce levy reinforcement rates a bit.
- Tech spread no longer gets stuck at 5
- Patricians with no landed holdings now correctly get some random courtiers (which they can, for example, marry)
- Euboia is no longer "Ocean" terrain
- Westfriesland is no longer "Ocean" terrain
- You can no longer become a truce breaker from failed imprisonments or title revokations, or wars from events, plots or factions
- 867: Gave Almos, the ruler of the Magyars, and his son Arpad scripted traits
- 867: Slightly strengthened the initial Magyar army
- Kingdoms with a king can now also de jure drift into empires
- Independent kingdoms can no longer drift out of their de jure empires
- Added Zoroastrian Crusade target weights to appropriate titles
- Human played vassals of the Magyars now get to keep their Ukrainian lands when Hungary forms
- Added level three Castle Fortifications to Constantinople
- Boosted the heavy infantry morale bonus given by the Aztec Jaguar Warrior Lodge
- Fixed a crash with deleted characters in a title's previous holder list
- The Seljuks now appear a bit further south, in Dashhowuz rather than Kyzylorda
- Fixed a bug where creating a kingdom or empire would not always initialize Crown Laws correctly
- Fixed raised armies being counted twice for max troops calculations used by some interfaces and some AI calculations
- Fixed an issue with save game corruption after loading a game and saving before unpausing

AI:
- Fixed a bug where patrician AI would go braindead for a long time after resign/reload
- Fixed an issue where, in many cases, under Gavelkind the AI would not create a second duchy even to form a kingdom
- Fixed a bug in the diplo AI where it would consider other lowborn characters to be its own dynasty
- Tweaked cross-religion Pagan marriage acceptance

I'd recommend not starting during the Old Gods start date. Go for the Stamford Bridge or Hastings start. Things are a bit more stable to learn. IF you start as Sancho of Castile of Alfonso of Leon then Spain is a good learning spot.

You very quickly learn the lessons of rapid overexpansion. More than once has my United Kingdoms of Castile-Leon-Galicia fallen to disrepair because of an untimely death after nearly completing the Reconquista as Sancho of Castile.

It was much worse in earlier games. The Spaniards almost always got overrun, and half of Spain was HRE or France. Barcelona and Galicia survived for all of five minutes.

Thought I'd take a break from my Viking conquest so I downloaded Game of Thrones mod, and its really well done and alot of fun. It worth the dl for anyone looking for a change or a GoT fan.

depends on the ruler for me. sometimes I create one if the one I choose isn't all that known historically.

Started up another game, my first non GoT mod game in a while and realized I have this feeling about the game.

Very beginning - first 10 minutes - Oh yeah I remember now why I stopped playing this game. So boring.

10-1st hour - Oh so Sanchez shares the Kingdom of Spain..with his two brothers! Thank you wikipedia

Hour 1 - Hour 2 - What the hell do you mean I casus belli? Oh great, my son is a dimwit and my wife is cheating on me.

Hour 2- Hour 20 - I think I just missed an entire day at the office.

Ill stop for awhile now and then, but when ever I return the world seems to shut off.

Catch up on TV shows: nope
do some gaming on the PS3: nope
Get to bed at descent hour: nope


Side not, playing GoT clash of kings time period with the Starks
I'm down to playing with Rickon and doing very well in a war with the crown when I get a event.

You turn around to see a cloaked figure standing behind you and he says the worlds valar morghulis. The last words you hear.

/Dead

And the Stark family is wiped from the realm.

Can anyone tell me the must have DLC? I don't want all the cosmetic/song packs. Just the worthwhile DLC to go with the main game.
