    Re: Crusader Kings II

The main DLCs are Sword of Islam, Legacy of Rome, Sunset Invasion, The Republic, and The Old Gods.

Sunset Invasion is a fantasy scenario that has the Aztecs invading Europe, so you could probably avoid that one unless you want to see that happen.

Sword of Islam enables you to play as a Muslim character and various events and features for Muslim characters. Most of the features came with the patch that went out with Sword of Islam, but they were just usable for the AI. If you have any interest in playing as a Muslim character, then you could get it.

Legacy of Rome mostly focuses on the Byzantine Empire and Orthodox religion. lots of events and decisions for them. again, most of the features came with the patch that came with the DLC, except the Rome specific events I believe. Legacy of Rome also added an ability to have a standing army, Retinues. This is one thing that is only possible if you buy this DLC.

The Republic focuses on coastal merchant republics(like Venice and Genoa). ability to make trade post as a republic, lots of events, and other republic features. all the features were included in the patch for The Republic except the ability to play as a republic. so if you have any interest in playing as a republic, you could get it.

The Old Gods focuses on Pagans, most features came with the patch. With the DLC, you get the ability to play as a Pagan character, and the ability to start in the new start date of 867 AD. I believe the new rebellion system also is tied to the DLC and is only there if you get the DLC.

Ruler Designer allows you to edit any ruler in the game when you start a game. Pretty simple. If you want to create your own character, you could get it.

less than 100 year, Empire of Russia created. Tsar Oleg I.

next move is to take over Perm and incorporate it into Russia as it's a De Jure part of Russia. After that, possibly take out Lithuania to help out the fellow Slavic religion neighbors of Poland.

        rest of Europe

Holy Roman Empire was formed, Byzantium is slowly dying, Spain is almost completely Muslim. Hungary used to be huge, but they had multiple rebellions and Bulgaria attacked them a few times. now they are split up in multiple parts.

If you Pre-order EUIV, you can get CKII for free as a bonus. 2 birds with one stone. You'll also be able to continue your CKII game into EUIV as with a pre-order of EUIV, you also get a CKII exporter that'll allow you to import into EUIV.

Unless your a rocket scientist you may want to steer clear of hearts of iron.

All jokes aside if your just getting into paradox games I'd recommend you go with CK2 or EU4.

Hearts of Iron just doesn't suck me in.

CKII has a lot more drama than HoI3 and just seems to be cleaner.

I never really had that much control of it. Spain is just a nightmare because everyone and their mother (literally) had claims on everything and well the frenchies never liked the English why would they like Irish anymore?

It was a lot fun though I was able to form kingdom of Ireland and marring into Scotland who's lone male heir died of smallpox. I married his daughter and that was that. France was obtained through...nefarious ways. I had like 10 kids of the king killed so my family would inherit.

                            Re: Crusader Kings II

for those CKII players that may be interested in Europa Universalis IV(since there is not a EUIV thread yet), here is an index of developer dairies for the game. http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...iaries-Archive

also, some pre-order bonuses for EUIV:
100 years war unit pack - unit models for the nations involved in the 100 years war(like France, England, Scotland, Burgundy).

Purple Pheonix - lot of events, unit model and pictures for Byzantium.

Free CKII - yes a full version of Crusader Kings II(no DLCs included) for free, you'll be able to gift it if you already own CKII(or trade it I suppose).

CKII to EUIV converter - a DLC for CKII that will allow you to export your CKII game so it can be played in EUIV.

these pre-order bonuses you can get no matter where you pre-order. EUIV also has a Digital Extreme Edition, which is $5 more($44.99), and it includes some special events, pictures, unit models, and music for Muslim nations.

If you bought a Paradox made game from Steam in the past, I believe you get 10% discount on EUIV pre-order. Greenmangaming.com has a deal on EUIV pre-orders as well. for the base game, you can choose to get $7 "cash back" or $10 site credit. For the Digital Extreme Edition, you can get $8 cash back, or $12 site credit.

game is set to release August 13th, a demo is expected sometime next week I believe.

also, as far as CKII, the devs have stated that they have plans for continual updates and additional DLCs for CKII for at least 2 more years.

also, a playlist of preview videos from a youtuber who had access to beta(and allowed to post these videos) http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...TYajCyvL3oDzDg

                              Re: Crusader Kings II

Great news about CK2 DLC. I wonder what they are planning next? I would imagine maybe something along the lines of allowing Theocracies playable? They are the only group you cant play as now. Not sure how much fun or if it would even be worthwhile to do.

After reading some of those Dev diaries I am not so sure about France for my first game. I may go with Austria now. The HRE side of the game seems much improved and a lot of fun. Plus i can war with tons of people like those Venetians, payback for that the did to me in CK2 before the republics became balanced.

I am wondering and maybe someone here can answer this. Is it actually possible to unify Germany in EU4? Or can you just strengthen the HRE? Obviously it would take a long time and a lot of effort to do but it would be a cool goal to work through in a entire campaign.

Anyone wish that a game that mixes the Total War RTS gameplay with the Paradox campaign game? Set in medieval Europe? Best strategy game ever.

                                Re: Crusader Kings II

                                my Russian game update.

Norse Brittannia, a dual empire of Francia/HRE(which is still gavelkind, so it should split up on the ruler's death, who right now only has daughters), Seljuks have invaded and taken over a lot of land south east of Russian Empire.

I had a ruler last till he was nearly 80, then his son died soon after from natural death(he was in the high 50s himself), and then his son died in battle after only ruling for a short time. It ended up with a lot of title claimants and I had to defend from a few rebellions.

Hungary built itself back up, but they have against started to fall. I took some of their lands after they holy warred me twice, then Poland took some land and now they are under revolts. Poland had a Russian as their ruler, but had a couple of revolts and now a Polish guy in on the throne and they are no longer an ally, but are still Slavic.

Sweden was huge at one point, but their ruler turned Catholic and that ended up with a lot of revolts. now Norway(still Norse I believe) is becoming the power house up north.

I'm content with my eastern border for now. I want to avoid bordering the Seljuks, but that may be unavoidable soon. I've already had to defend from a few adventurer invaders that wanted the Kingdom of Perm(my North Eastern and Eastern lands) and they attacked with between 35K and 50K troops. Seljuks have around 65K right now. That is a little too much for me to defend right now.

My southern Border, I plan to try and take the few Byzantine provinces there mainly to make the border look better, but having more coastal land down there would be nice for when I covert into EUIV. My content with the Northern border as well. I don't plan to go anymore north unless provoked. for the east border, I might take over Lithuania, partly to make the border look better, but also to convert the lands to Slavic(from Romuva) to connect all the Slavic lands from Poland to Russia. I get the feeling Poland may be in danger soon though as Francia has been meddling in affairs to their east lately.

Also Kingdom of Georgia is Tengri religion and controlled by Alan culture dynasty and are starting to take over old Byzantine lands to their south. Bulgaria has switched from Orthodox to Catholic.

Edit: also a lot of my southern territory wasn't gained by me going to war either. some of my vassals did some holy wars and gained land that way. I didn't really plan to get the lands next to Bulgaria.
