Marble racing betting: Everything you need to know about bets at the marble races. A complete guide to a rolling competition. Welcome!

PC Mods site has popped up w/ a handful of mods. I'd be interested in trying that NoHUD mod if it weren't for it not supporting the experimental branch.

      Re: No Man's Sky

One of the main things that gets me is when Sean talked about the game being "completely seamless" and "no load screens." That's technically true, I guess, but not really. The warp screen is the load screen for your current star system. Each system is like its own little bubble with a skybox. You cant fly to your sun, you cant fly to another system without warping. This by itself is not a huge deal but for me it serves as an example of a number of similar "small things that add up" regarding what was said/what was shown and what we have.

Oh well. I have never made a game, and never will. I can't imagine how difficult it is. I am sure they are trying their best.

My main hope right now is the PC version gets a bit if an overhaul. I dunno if thats feasible or not, but I have to think that a good PC can run this game with MUCH better draw distance and MUCH better pop-in (or lack of, you know what I mean) than we we have now.

I was reading some things on reddit and saw the list JareBear linked here but decided not to post here cause i didn't want to cause more buzz.

It's a shame that these things aren't in the game, cause if they were, Sean Murray wouldn't have been under so much fire, but if he's in this situation, it's his fault.

We will never know how NMS would be if these things were in the game. With all the (deserved) backlash, a little studio like Hello Games may not have a second chance to make a game as ambitious as they tried with NMS, and it may have an impact on the dlc and future support of the game (since most studios start developing a new game right after the release of a game, DLC ate planned before the launch, not after).

At least it seems like they fixed the PC version

          Re: No Man's Sky

Star systems are so far away, that it would take real-life years even in game without hyperdrive to get to each one. So I am sure it came down to a design decision.

Ain't nobody got time for that, and such a petty complaint by certain detractors. Seriously, lol.

Some, not all, are going to try and find reasons why they don't like it, use confirmation bias and the like, because they truly can't accept that not every game is made for them, even with all the hype you build up for yourself.

Not deligitamizing any of the questions, some are definitely valid... but there are plenty of the vocal monitory that does the most stone throwing and are usually the loudest... and more often than not, never planned to buy, or the like.

We see this in all facets, not just gaming. Humans are a crazy bunch.

The fact someone took what looks like a huge amount of time to do this......seriously there are sick people who have no lives. This is super geek insanity at it's finest.

It's a damn video game LOL. You would think this is life depriving **** here with how crazy people are getting about a stinking video game. I am having a lot of fun with it. I never read a single word of hype or anything.....saw some videos 3-4 months ago....and said cool, a space exploration game. Might be a lot of fun.

            So far it has been.

One thing I try to remind myself when I play this game and when I read reviews is that this game was made by, what, like 12 people? I know someone could counter with "AAA price = AAA standards" but honestly they could have charged whatever they wanted. They could have made this a PS4 system bundle and it probably would have sold well. The demand was insanely high.

One gripe I see across the reviews is a lack of "consequence" and how "nothing is at stake." I get this, to a certain extent, but I kind of feel like they wanted to make a "chill" game and in that respect they definitely succeeded.

I would disagree here...there are gaming websites dedicated to the resolution battle (PS4 vs Xbox One, Digital Foundary puts out detailed analysis every cross platform game)....

Watch Dogs got detailed video comparing E3 trailer to the actual game.

Sure, it may be super geeky, but given all the attention people pay to video games (heck, we're on a forum dedicated to sports gaming, that's pretty geeky), I wouldn't call it surprising....

That a game with this much hype gets analyzed? I'm not shocked.

I think Hello Games is such a small studio and had to pivot a lot....I think they can make the game what they intended though.

This game is being made by just ONE guy

Also, i get they are a group of few devs, but if they decided to make something bigger than they could, the "small group" argument is not really valid IMO. It just makes it even more obvious they were trying to bite more than they could chew

They've sold enough copies to get another chance. They've just lost credibility with a lot of consumers. It will remain to be seen if it affects them at all in the future. Gamers have short memories when it comes to being burned by popular developers/publishers.

I think what he meant, was that some take it way too far in the #FirstWorldProblems sense.

Yes, we all all enjoy that stuff, but man, the instant gratification society seems to be getting more and more vicious.

The guy was getting death threats for crying out loud. For a video game delay the first time.

Maybe it is the fact I have been gaming for 30+ years, and still remember moving square dots on and screen and that was "amazing immersion", lol. Having spent several times at Sony San Diego Studios, all the hard work and complexity to make a functional game, that I can give developers the benefit of the doubt.

Things change in development. Happens with ALL games. Only thing he is guilty of, is the communication thing, but he did mention since there was a marketing/QA deal, there are complexities.

Most importantly, I never over hype myself through years of experience. Excited, you betcha, but never delusions of grandeur.

I have a strong feeling this team will make up for it with patch support, and hopefully grow more to accommodate their goals.

I can't stand when I see people bashing game developers on twitter and other social media. If I don't like a game, I will complain but won't attack anyone who worked hard to make it.

Sean Murray should be criticized for how he let hype grow out of control. His bank accounts are looking pretty good right now I bet, so he probably couldn't care less.

Now personal attacks and insults are too far. But I will call him a liar for not making abundantly clear how the game changed during development compared to how he sold us the game conceptually over the years.

He is the second coming of Peter Molyneux, until he proves otherwise from my perspective.

I agree with you...just feel it's fair to criticize and compare.

                            Death threats are horrible...

I'm a big Sean Murray fan, he's passionate...just can't completely ignore things either.

I bet they'll add a lot to the game over 6 months...Will gamers wait patiently though?

And will those additions be free. People are assuming the game will be supported in the same model that minecraft is. I think that's optimistic to say the least.

I don't know how Minecraft is supported, but do you think GTA-level support is likely?

Seeing that thread is a bit upsetting. I've enjoyed the game, but I can already feel the grind a bit and it's starting to wear on me. It's alarming to see those gameplay videos from pre-release and actually experience the game now and it does suck that things turned out differently.
