I'm beginning to bounce back and forth on this game now myself. I really didn't think much about it, being I'm usually a sports and FPS gamer. Now I've been reading very positive things everywhere I go. I've never played a RTS before really, atleast not with this level of complexity.

I'd be willing to give this game the effort and time if I decide to get it.

Sounds like a perfect candidate for a rental for you. If you dig it after the rental, buy it. If you don't, you saved yourself $45.

You're probably right on PK. Thing is, in the latest GMR there is a coupon that saves your 40 bucks off of FSW if you trade in 4 non sports games and that is tempting. For the 7 dollar rental, I could spend the 13.50 after trades and buy it outright.

I'll have to think some more.

            Re: FSW Impressions...

Can someone tell me, what is FSW closest to - Ghost Recon, SOCOM II, Rainbow Six 3, or something else? I know it isn't really "like" any of these games, but could I get an idea of what kind of elements I might find closest to another title?

I mean, you command a squad in all of these games I think, with my only experience being with Rainbow Six 3 on XBox.

                  Re: FSW Impressions...

Maybe a little Ghost Recon, but I emphasize a little. It is really unlike anything I've played before. Because to me it feels like I'm in the movie Blackhawk down. There are some completely intense moments....frustrating when I don't know what to do. Then some how I pull it off...***nning out of ammo, carrying my wounded comrades on my shoulder knowing that one wrong move and it's all over.

Especially when enemies are shooting from 3 directions it's crazy. If you play it, bump up the difficulty.

And a word about the 'real' FSW that is unlockable. It is 6 missions, and they are like the ones that they showed at last year's E3. They may be stuff that they were originally planning to put in but pulled out. They are non-linear, you can jump in any mission you want. It's much more technical and you get a team leader for a total of 9 soldiers. Plus you can move guys individually, they call it 'bumping'.

Like I said I think I may be at the end but then again it's 12:20 in the afternoon game time and I thought it was supposed to be 12 hours in one day. If so then I'm half way done and I have a LOT to go. I've played about 15 hours so far on Master Seargent. So if I am only half way then I should get a lot of playing time outta this considering there are also those other 6 missions from the real FSW.

I can't say it's a must buy for people that don't enjoy the genre, rent it first. But for ME I am so glad I bought it. It's turning out to be one of those rare genre defining games that just sucked me in and won't let go. Like I said, in one word...INTENSE.

Can't wait to talk strategy with anyone on here as we move along.

I started over tonight on Major General and the game is much better. Damn you really have to think and be in tune with everything around you.
