re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
In case anyone is wondering about their machine being able to run this, I'm running it on a 512 MB graphics card and it's fine. I should mention that I have tolerance for a graphical hiccup here and there. But animations and cut scenes aren't the point of this game. Actual gameplay is not affected.
I should also mention that I'm on OS X and my processor meets the recommended specs.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 02-07-2016, 12:26 PM.Comment

Playing Enemy Unknown it just became 2nd nature to move first and then reload, so I completely forgot that reloading would end your turn if you did it on the first move.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

You mean your guys actually hit the enemy when they're in Overwatch. I know that I'm only on the first mission(after the tutorial) but my guys shoot like OG Stormtroopers. Someone said earlier that you have to use your grenades in this game and that is true, because shots seem like they are going to miss a lot 50% seems like it's really 20%.
This game is making me PO'd. It's great.
I did just finish a mission with 100% shot accuracy so that felt good.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
So, I did the first retaliation mission today and the RNG tried its best to screw me.
SpoilerWhen the map loads my squad is sitting next to three civilians. Easy rescue? Wrong. I move my ranger over just a little bit to rescue the first civilian and immediately spawned a pod with two sectoids, a stun lancer, and regular advent soldier. Not to be outdone, this first civilian also happened to be the Faceless. First round was spent scrambling for cover and dumping rounds into this monster standing in their midst.
Overall the mission went well. Saved 9 civilians and only suffered two wounded soldiers.Comment

re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
You cannot take anything for granted with the procedural map generation:
Those civilians were outside of my vision before I dropped my first guy from that roof (I couldn't see them OR the red zone I'm not supposed to cross into). If I'd dropped down a few steps farther over, I'd have immediately lost my concealment. Right on my first move of the very first mission (with the tutorial disabled, it's a very different starting sequence).
I'm not playing ironman, but if I was seeing this would be truly terrifying. At least with it being the first mission it'd be a nice quick reset.Comment

re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
This game is so good as expected.
I have had 2 crashes in about 4 hours of play because of my graphic card. Both were when a transmission video popped up. Nothing during actual gameplay. A minor annoyance since it auto saves often while you're in the HQ and re-loading the game is quick.Comment

On Ironman Veteran. Game is kicking my butt right now. Got some bad habits I need to fix.
- My crew is always top loaded. I need to spread the experience out better so I don't get caught with a difficult mission with 3 rookies and a squaddie.
- With a lot more timed missions, I need to better judge when I should just bail.
And this is definitely a much more stable game than XCOM 1 initial release. Only encountered a couple minor issues. I wasn't going to get this game because I would have to replace my 10 year old laptop (only used for work). So glad I made the jump back to PC gaming.Comment

Tim I'm rocking a late 2011 Mac Pro with the 512 M GFX card. Mind telling me your other specs? Would be great if I could rock this.

So yeah I must have done something wrong or something. My weapons aren't strong enough, neither is my armor. Taking 5 rookies into that place is not getting the job done.
Best thing I like about the game, every time you restart the game, none of the locations are the same, some of the missions be different too.
Love the game so far. So addicting!PSN: trex187

Build the Guerrilla Tactics School. There are then updates that you can buy. Sets of updates are unlocked by getting at least one of your soldiers to a certain rank.Comment

re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Just a tip for anyone still struggling with this game's performance - I think shadows and AA are the big FPS killers for this one. Going above "directional only" shadows is like dropping a nuke on my PC - I drop into the teens even from "static only" and putting them on Maximum turns the game into a really nice-looking 1 FPS slideshow. I can get away with AA to "FXAA" but start getting some serious dips beyond that. Basically everything else I've maxed out and, with the help of the Radeon control panel locking the game to 30 FPS, I'm getting a nice-looking and well-performing game on a pretty mid-low range system. The only thing left is what I can't get rid of from just tweaking - the framerate dips in loading that are caused by my CPU and Hard drive. I don't have an SSD so I expect difficulties in that area.
Both the title screen and the base are really good barometers for how the game will perform in general - also the retaliation missions (where everything is burning) are a good test as well once you get there.
