Love the game, but load times are horrendous ! Seems so last gen. Great difficulty though

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
This game is a lot harder that EU. An Ironman run seems almost impossible to me.
Any PC guys actually pull off an Ironman?

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Long load times aren't too much of a surprise after experiencing the PC version. Having an SSD sped up load times dramatically on the PC (so I've heard, I don't have one though), but I know that's not an option for console short of taking the PS4 apart.
Shame though - that's the one thing I thought might be improved on console over the PC version. Guess you guys can hope for a patch...Comment

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
If you play the timed missions like EU, you will fail. It's about finding out how to push the issue while still controlling pod pops. Using battle scanners/scanning protocol and your scout rangers to control when and how to attack is key. You'll get the hang of it. It took me quite a few failed campaigns to get it down.
And yeah, as has been mentioned, the load time are outrageous on console. To the point where it's worth it to just get up and take a break for a couple minutes.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 10-13-2016, 10:10 AM.Comment

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Yeah, I timed the load times last night. On PS4, to start a mission it is a good 3-4 minutes on average. After a mission is 4-4.5 minutes. Absolutely ridiculous. The game is so damned addicting though I am willing to put up with it. But it is ultra annoying.NCAA: Michigan Wolverines

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
I mentioned it before when talking about the PC version, but it bears repeating. This game is way too heavy on the graphics in spots where it doesn't need to be. This is a strategy game. I don't give a rip about the cutscenes looking pretty or having each little room on my base containing fully rendered characters in them. I get that rendering the maps is going to take some power, but the load times after the missions are what really get me. It also seems like however the game is handling the memory on the graphics side is really poor.
Another thing for those who might have both versions... Is it just me or is there a whole lot more map variety on PC?Comment

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Oh wow, I had no idea it was that bad. My PC version with an HDD takes right around a minute to load the first blacksite mission (from the moment I click "begin mission" to the time the red lights come on in the skyranger) and I get antsy even waiting that long. SSD times are often under 30 seconds.Comment

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
There is a really bad bug in the PS4 version that I hope gets fixed soon. A couple times now there has been an instance where my entire squad loses line of sight on enemies for no reason. Grenades still do damage, so it's not as if the game disappears the enemy. But you cannot fire your weapon on them. It always goes away after a turn, but it can really ruin your day if it happens at a bad time.Comment

I haven't experienced crazy load times on X1

It's well worth it. Learning curve steeper than first but just crazy well made.

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Got to play around a little with this night. Even though it is controller supported now, Steam still pops a warning message saying it's not.
I did have an issue with the Dualshock 4 when I set it up - when I went to change to control from Mouse to Controller the game went unresponsive. After a while I plugged in my 360 wired controller, and it worked fine. The game will give controller button icons instead of keyboard icons for various controls throughout the game once you turn the "controller" setting on in the options.
As for the controls themselves, stick movement seemed a little "floaty" or in other words, it doesn't really lock onto a grid square so you have to be careful about what square you actually want to move to. This probably goes double for Rangers and their melee ability, since the most direct path to an enemy is often not going to be the one that will leave you in safe cover. There was only one thing missing that I really like from the keyboard commands - the ability to zoom out. Fortunately you can still pan the camera around with the right stick without moving, which allows you to still make use of the "line-of-sight" icons on enemies, and avoid unnecessarily triggering multiple packs of Advent.
It's still a better game with the mouse/keyboard, IMO.Comment

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Holy **** this game is difficult. Got through about 8 or 9 missions and I'm down to only rookies. Some of these missions seem impossible with the amount of enemies that come out at the same time. There was a raid mission where as soon as I rescued a civilian, 7 enemies came out from the woodwork and took out my team in about 7 turns.Comment
