    Re: Elite: Dangerous

Isn't it $39 for the other version? That's $20 difference.

I fail to see how $20 is worth some extra skins.

From what I can tell, the $39 version is just the game.
But the $59 version comes with the game + the Horizons expansion which I think makes up the $20 difference.

That's as far as I can tell. I'm still super confused by the wording of the versions in the Store.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

The $39 is just the game, no season pass and thus missing horizons.

      You have 3 options

$39 ED for base game. Digital and hard copy
$49 legendary for game and xpac. Hard copy
      $59 command for game/xpac/skins. Digital

And if you have Best Buy GCU, then the legendary is $40.
I may still go digital though for the convenience of no disc, plus I need to spend another $50 in the psn store to qualify for that $15 credit.

$40 with Amazon Prime makes me really consider it now.

Would prefer digital but I rather save the $20 and have the trade in option in case I end up hating the game.

Are you the same guy who use to add input back in the 90's on the sports reviewer's website back in the day? I think it was before OS came to be. Remember chit chatting with someone with that user name who was a rabid Bills and Sabres fan and who gave good info on those early sports games. Can't remember what my user name was back then though.

Preordered the Commander's Edition. Surprise not seeing this game get more attention from the PS4 players. Watched the video and thought it was helpful even though the controls discussed were for Xbox. Amazed at how much more to grasp compared to No Man's Sky's gameplay is.

One thing that stands out for me that was taken from one of their announcements.....

"Around 150,000 of the game's star systems are taken from real-world astronomical data"

Looking forward to this game. Happy Father's Day to all you Dads!

That is me, dude! Your memory is astonishing! Big-time Bills' and Oilers' fan, so you were close.

                Nice to connect again, brother!

On another note, there are stars and parts of the solar systems that remain unexplored in this game. That's how damn big it is. People who discover new planets and stars can name them.

If you're into space exploration and some combat, this is easily one of the most underrated games anywhere. It's not for everyone, but if you dig true space exploration, there's nothing like Elite: Dangerous.

Is there a lot of time just wandering around in space with nothing around you?

And if so, how often are there events to get you doing something?

I get that there will be slow moments to take it all in. I just don't want to always sit down in my limited gaming time to doing absolutely nothing for 30 min.

Btw, I pre ordered it on disc.

I have been playing this since just about day one. Honestly the easiest way to put it is you get out of it what you put in to it. I have spent hours just exploring or trying to get to a new system or working a trade route with nothing "exciting" happening but had a lot of fun.

But you can also take a more militaristic approach and purposely take Bounty Hunting or Assassination missions and be constantly on the edge of full blown battle. You can also get involved in the skirmishes in between factions that can actually lead to full blown war.

So it really is all up to you on how you play the game and what you want to get out of it. But no matter what path you follow their will be times when you may get really bored. It is space after all and sometimes you just have nothing cool to look at or do, while you are trying to get somewhere else or setting up something else to do.

All that being said. I love the game and have played it for hundreds of hours and I am looking forward to playing on my PS4.

First thing you're going to need to do is create an account with Frontier Dev so they can link your account with PS Store. You'll need to verify a code sent to you by email to complete the process.

There were 2 ship selections. Both were sidewinders but the 2nd choice specified Commander with a various placement within the known universe. I guess that was the the commander set I paid for?

You can immediately start a set of training to help you in piloting and combating. I stopped after piloting. I can't say that I enjoyed it more than NMS did theirs. I think my initial impression was NMS had a larger FOV. Still, I did learn the controls quickly, and going to test it out more next time.

You'll also get to name your ship. So those of you are about to play, you may want to start thinking of what you want to call it. I named mine, Pepper.

Noticed that you can form groups and friends list for multiplayer. Also, your ship's dashboard is much more desirable than NMS is.

                          See you guys in space

This game is amazing, but can be a tad overwhelming.
Its like being given a car with very little knowledge of how it work and dropped in the middle of a county, and told you can make money by driving between cities etc..
You can get a job and try and make something of yourself, or go crash into a lake and so on.

no idea why that analogy came to mind

If this is your 1st time playing, Do Not Skip the trainer missions
