Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
Is there a way to play RDR on PS4? My PS3 is fried. If I have to get a digital copy or whatever, that's fine, but I don't want to pay for PS Now subscription for one game. Any help?Check out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
I think what Ubisoft did with Watch Dogs 2, open-world wise, was great. Some things are superior to Rockstar's open-world, in my opinion. It is a living-breathing world (not as a catch-phrase, but actually is). Mafia 3, as an open-world game, fails. The world is pretty dead. Yeah, the cars are nice and the map is decent, but it's like LA Noire's world = just a poster in the background.
In Mafia 3 you can't really interact with NPCs or with the environment, the day-night cycle is strange, it becomes pretty boring to walk/drive around after a short while, and only if you are in the middle of an interesting/intense mission, you are actually having fun. Which is the complete opposite of what open-world means to me. It means that I can ignore missions and just wander around and do whatever for hours - and still being entertained. To me, that's the essence of open-world games. Not that you can drive anywhere on the map, but everything that's around you.
Rockstar sure know what they're doing, I'm never worried about their open-world games.
I understand your point of view in regards to not being entertained outside the missions but at the same time, it is a story driven game. My main focus was the story and taking over every district. I wasn't really interested in doing all this other side stuff so im happy that it was for the most part, non-existent simply because it wouldn't fit in with the story, characters or context of it all. Besides, unlike the majority of open world games, I didn't really want a bunch of fetch quests and meaningless tasks for NPC's that don't play a vital role whatsoever.
I just don't think that Mafia III was as bad as everyone was making it out to be. That's all. It has it's flaws and negatives but so does every game, including GTA/RDR. Not like they're immune.
I wouldn't say im worried about RDR 2 but knowing that for RDR and the majority of Rockstar's games, it was Benzies who was the real star (not the Housers) behind them all has me concerned. If it wasn't for Benzies literally saving the game, RDR wouldn't exist and we wouldn't be having a conversation about RDR 2.
Not surprised by the delay and a smart move by Rockstar to give themselves more development time which is always a good thing and while RDR 2 will sell 15m or so, it will do better in a slow/dead month compared to the fall with Destiny 2, COD and BF2.Comment

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
I respect your opinion and I didn't mean to step on any toes. I like Mafia as well. I'm still playing it frequently as I try to complete the story. It just seems to be the anti-GTA when it comes to the little things.
I don't play a ton of video games outside of NBA 2K, Bioshock, and Rockstar releases so I think I assumed most big name open world games would at least be close to 2013's GTA V, particularly with the console upgrade since then. But Mafia feels like an early 360 game in a lot of ways, to me anyway. In fact, even on 360, I never had a game hard crash to the dashboard as frequently as this one does (once every 1-2 days on XBoxOne).
Even beyond the hardware portion, there's just a lot of oddities. Last night my character killed someone as they were swinging open a door and as a result, the door began swinging violently in a full circle (through the wall even) non-stop. Even things like the discontinuity between what I have my character wearing and what they suddenly change into during cut-scenes tends to catch the eye.
Also, regarding weather and lighting, I was, in part, thinking of the times where I think the game's trying to transition from "city lighting" to "country lighting" at night. A lot of those transitions are rough, with clear sudden level drops. There tends to be a lack of smoothness in that regard, which is probably tough to do, which is the point. GTA and RDR somehow made all that stuff seem routine.
Now, I just bought Mafia a few weeks ago after reading about a ton of patches and improvements they've made since release so I bet a lot of this stuff doesn't happen anymore, but a fair amount of it still does. Here's the kind of things I'm talking about:
As for the characters wearing different outfits, that's not a bug or a glitch. All the cut scenes were pre-rendered while the outfits were added in with a patch after the game was released and were never intended to be in the game. They were added due to fan requests and because of how the cut scenes were done, that's an obvious problem but I always stayed with Lincoln's original green jacket and outfit so I never had that problem.
The lighting was messed up at times in general but a lot of it was "preset" when starting a mission so you could be at 6am, start a mission and it goes to 8pm. The preset parts didn't bother me because it's how they wanted to tell the story and what time of day for it to be told. I understand your complaint and others as well but at the same time, a lot of it is overblown in my opinion.Comment

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
Rockstar gives reason for delay.
I think that is what most people don't realize. This is Rockstar's FIRST game built from the ground up with the current gen consoles abilities in mind.
I don't care when it comes out, this will truly be epic.PS5Comment

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
I might be in the minority, but I think Rockstar knew when they came out with the first "release date" that they already knew at that time they wouldn't make it.Comment

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
I'm with you on this. I'm not mad at them for doing this by any means. I think it built the hype up even more by setting the release date for this year. And I don't think delaying it ruined the hype for anybody as I am still super excited for it.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
I posted this in another thread but I'll post it here as well (a shorter version).
I believe wholeheartedly that this game was delayed because of the online component. And it concerns me a great deal moving forward. In Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar really emerged as one of the best Tripe-A studios to create compelling, interesting stories and fantastic characters in their single player mode.
However, with GTA Online being such a huge success I think their focus has shifted from creating single player games to online games. Just look at how they literally up and stopped making the single player DLC, despite being 60% finished with it, for GTA V. They never even made it. Period.
The online component of major Triple-A games had always been kind of a side-note, until GTA Online. Now I could see the single player component becoming an after thought. Just look at some of the shooters like Call of Duty. They used to have extensive single-player campaigns. Now they are virtually gone.
I greatly fear the same fate for open-world games, especially from Rockstar. I wouldn't be surprised if Grand Theft Auto VI has 80% of its development in online modes and only about a 10-15 hour single player campaign.Comment
