Looked amazing. This game will take goty. I thought when it was postponed indefinitely we wouldn't see it this year.

I unsubscribed from this thread after all the leaks happened and so far I've been able to avoid them. I'm the type of person who watches everything as soon as it comes out. So skipping the last state of play and the trailers has about killed me. I am cautiously coming back with the review embargo now lifted.

Re: The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)

Just for the sake of added color, if you look at the Metacritic reviews, a lot of gaming outlets are not doing "scored" reviews anymore. They write their review of the game but never put a number score on it - Polygon, Kotaku, Ars Technica, etc. have all adopted that convention.

The difference between favorable impressions of the game from the review outlets that are offering scores vs those that don't is pretty stark (at least as of right now). That isn't reflected in the overall metacritic "number", of course, but that number is increasingly less relevant (to the extent that it was ever relevant to begin with). There are a ton of throwaway 10/10 scores from outlets that I've either never heard of, or else don't review games regularly. Conversely, among the most thoughtful reviews from hardcore gaming websites, many are not very positive on the game at all.

I suspect that reviews don't actually sway purchase/play decisions all that much anyway, but I think it was always the case that a AAA, high-craft game like this would get high numbered review scores (as does basically any AAA release these days). Whether that means anything is, I suppose, up to everyone to decide on their own.

Polygon was pretty harsh on the game. Kinda surprised by that.

Yes, although the theme of the review has been either alluded to or outright echoed in other reviews of the game. It sounds like for a handful of the reviewers, they felt that the developers are treating gamers like complete idiots and the entire game basically exists to hammer you over the head with trite clichés and bromides, to the point where they questioned whether they were actually having any fun playing the game.

Honestly, if you wonder at any point if you're having fun playing a game, you probably aren't.

Reviews are out. IGN gave it a 10. I'm sure there are going to be a lot of people pissed that it's getting perfect scores.

I'm getting the game regardless. I've waited for it six years good or bad I don't really care.

IDC what anyone says about the game, im getting it. Hell, I think I might as well pre-order this afternoon. Saved up enough to buy a nice OLED TV to play it on too. My excitement is through the roof.

BUT, for all those YouTubers making reviews..... STOP INCLUDING CINEMATIC CLIPS IN THE REVIEW VIDEOS!!! IDC if its permitted under the embargo or not, those cinematic clips can give away A LOT.

Its honestly so difficult nowadays to try to go into a game completely blind.

I could not possibly care any less for reviews of anything really. I invested a nice amount into my gaming audio and outside of God of War, Gears 5 and RDR2 I havent gotten much use out of it. The majority of games havent felt worth. If nothing else, I know the LOU2 is gonna be immersive. I can hash out my feelings on the overall game/story after I actually play it. I'm excited, though.

Days Gone hammered it home that you should never, ever put too much stock into reviews. I don’t think they could have been any further off on how they viewed THAT game. Turned out to be one of the best I’ve ever played. I’ll be getting TLOU2, but I’m gonna wait on a price drop. Ghost of Tshushima comes out next month and then, Cyberpunk in September. Just see myself being tied down to those for a while.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

My birthday is Thursday so I assume that's the day I'll get to pick it up if they do the 9pm release. The flip side of that is I've been bored at home every weekend for months. When I finally have something great to play it falls on my bday/fathers day so I'll be away from home at least some of the time.

I cant take it anymore. I NEED to play this game already. I never owned a PS3, bought a PS4 in 2018 and my coworkers introduced me to TLOU last year. Ive been hooked ever since. Easily in the top 3 of my greatest games of all time rankings, and I assume Part 2 will be ever better.
