Re: The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)

    I just started yesterday.

Only like an hour in. And wow.

My faith in gaming has been restored.

Re: The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)

Now I'm over 32 hours in. Within the last few hours I was finally able to catch a certain landmark. I don't know if it plays a factor later or anything or the location I'm in, so tagged is the landmark and when I spotted it. I'll upload an image later.

      Spoiler

Earlier on at some point I accidentally walked backwards and slipped down a mud hill into my next checkpoint area. Of course the game both autosaved immediately and both the last checkpoint and encounter points refreshed, so I couldn't go back to clear out the place for inventory and collectables. Ugh, this game with those moments.

Anyway, I'm not sure if the pills are assumed to supposed to be taken literally as opposed to another method (since they have the pill image, rattle like pills, and it sounds like you swallow them when you upgrade), but I thought it would be cool in a restrictive way if you couldn't do upgrades while equipped with a spores mask.

And I'm not sure if the game messed up or what, but I was once in an area without power and thought I wouldn't be able to find a weapon upgrade station because you normally have to turn on a light to do so, but I stumbled upon one and was able to turn on the light without yet generating power in that area.

Those last two things are nitpicks, but if this game is lauded for its realism in certain aspects, these aren't two parts of it.

Re: The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)

Just finished on the Hard preset.

It took me 38 hours and 47 minutes to completely finish. I really think I could've done this just fine on Survivor. I'm glad this has a New Game+ mode so I can keep all my upgrades if and when I play through again, though they say that the plus modes are harder, so I'll have to be careful if I try Survivor+ haha. I still need 15 more artifacts, 13 more trading cards, 3 more journal entries, apparently 2 more workbenches, and 15 more coins.

This game was a beast. Props to ND for creating what they did. This could not have been easy, even though the gameplay mechanics largely remained the same from the first game. Going through those credits, man. This game was a severe undertaking for sure, especially with all of the different environments.

I'm surprised people take as long as I do playing this, because I really took my sweet time in this one, including playing guitar a lot. Never really died a bunch, though (even at one point when I did, I reset less than every thirty seconds).

I had no problems with this game's story as a whole. I will acknowledge that I can understand why others did, and I could think of other ways to rework some of the same points, but the gameplay involved in directing the story that was told was fascinating for me. The ending was both hit-and-miss for me, hitting emotionally but missing a bit from a storytelling perspective. I just don't see where anybody can give this thing a 1/10, but that's my own opinion.

In the morning I'm going to go back and read a bunch of your spoilers, haha.

I'm one of the people that hated the story of this game even after a few weeks of letting it digest. I haven't posted my thoughts as to why because I have so many and I don't want to get into any controversial things on here.

One of the only games I've beat this generation (multiplayer only type of person) The story was phenomenal to me as was the gameplay. I really liked abby thought she was a great character .

I say post them. For people like me who don't really get the hate I'd like to try and understand. Those that have griped before on here have posted shallow, easily defeatable points so I'd like something more in depth vs. simple "Abby bad, me no likey story choices".

I’d say the main thing I don’t like about the story, in retrospect, is that...

So I was very far off in my "plot development" prediction I made early on while playing, and I found it out really quickly after I posted too lol.

Don't tell me if I'm right or wrong, but I just want to go back to this later and see if there is anything to it. I kind of just wanted a public stamp of approval for myself. Don't read if you haven't gone as far as I've gotten (again, I've played 16 hours and I play kind of slowly), or if you're not interested in considering what could happen here:

I could be way off-base. Only time will tell on this one. Give me a few more weeks, lol.

Definitely tag.. didnt mean to do that. You actually covered it in your reasoning anyways.

That's okay. You tag it like this:

                          [ spoiler]Write stuff here.[/spoiler]

Just leave the space out before the "s". If you still have what you put, you can edit it back in.

On that note, this is obviously the way it has to be done and a game like Uncharted or Tomb Raider is the same, but isn't it awfully convenient that there is always exactly one way (not zero, not two) to get to somewhere they need to go? Like, if that door is locked and there wasn't a nearby rope to climb through that high window, then the game is over my friend haha.

It's just something I kept thinking about while playing, especially when you're going through a building with many levels busted apart and the characters are just hoping that they'll have a path going to the other side, and surprise surprise there is one!

This obviously isn't a knock on the game. If it were real life though, I'd look back and tell that story to the others that were with me. "Hey guys, didn't you notice that we lucked out in every single turn of ours? I mean we could have been blocked off 368 different times, and we always just so happened to have enough people, objects, or openings to get us just to that very spot in the end, just because we wished it to be true!" Heh.

In that same vein I couldn't help but think how they were able to navigate back to "base" after the day. Like doors and walls crumbled, others were blocked, rushing water, etc... certainly couldn't go back the way you came.

                              Video game logic, LOL.
