If you don't have patience, this game is not for you. I enjoy combat in this infinitely more than I did in souls games. Souls has atmosphere, level design and enemy variance over Nioh. But Nioh slaughters souls in gameplay in my opinion.

I imagine this game will be a financial success and its sequel to really challenge the souls series in quality. This game is a phenomenal start for the franchise.

This article will explain perfectly why, even though Nioh is challenging, it is not frustrating and rage inducing like Dark Souls and Bloodborne.....couldn't have written it better myself..

Instead of dropping players in the deep end like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Nioh eases you into the challenge, causing ramifications throughout the game.

This sums up my feelings perfectly. Hopefully the DLC will have some more enemy variety. But gameplay wise, I prefer Nioh by quite a bit. And I love the Souls games. As you said, really all I prefer about the Souls games is the atmosphere and enemy variety. I suppose the Souls series has better level design but Nioh's levels are nothing to sneeze at. And I do like the mission format as a change of pace to the Souls games.

            Nioh

            Daggum bats got me again.

Tip: when walking along a ledge nearing an open area on one side and a cliff on the other, proceed with caution with your block up.

I have defeated 4 bosses so far and I can say without a doubt that this is the most I have ever been engrossed in a game in a very long time. I love everything about it. But what I love most is the deep combat and the smooth frame rate. I recently put Dark Souls III in my PS4 after playing Nioh for a few hours and it was jarring how bad the frame rate is on Souls compared to Nioh. I agree with many others that the environment and enemy variety in Souls are better, but they are still very solid in Nioh. I believe everything else is vastly superior in Nioh.

This game came out of nowhere for me and I preordered after playing the last chance demo. I'm so glad that a demo was released because I would have missed out on this gem otherwise. Between this and Horizon, I will be set for quite a while. Great job Team Ninja!

Going from this game to Destiny seriously makes my head hurt. I wish all games were 60 FPS, there is such a huge difference going from 60 to 30.

I agree, it's a shame it's not a higher priority but since it's something that doesn't show in screen shots it is not very highly prioritized by gamers it seems. But man, does it play so much better.

Fighting games and racing games should always be 60FPS even if the graphics aren't quite as good IMO

Absolutely. A steady 30 (like Uncharted) is typically fine, albeit still noticeable, but an unlocked 30 (like the Witcher and Souls) is very dramatic. I can't do unlocked 30s anymore. I seriously get a headache. Framerate is far more important for me over graphics. I am excited to see what the Pro's boost mode does for the unlocked 30s games.

Yeah pick it all up and sell it. But don't forget you can also change it at the blacksmith into materials you can then use to build new weapons and armor.

But to get back to the blacksmith you either have to complete your current mission or use the Hirogami plant or whatever.

Oh one other thing, the blacksmith has a TRANSFORM feature that will allow you to make armor or weapons look like anything you've already discovered (another nice feature they stole from Diablo, but I applaud them for doing so)

So in my case I LOVED the way the heavy Nioh armor (the preorder bonus) looked like but it was way too heavy and not as good as the light armor I have.

But the light archer armor I found, while being really good, looks ********.

Using that TRANSFORM though I was able to make all my armor and equipment look really badass because I made it all look like heavy armor.

So if you saw my build you'd think I was a total tank and probably overburdened at like 115% but I'm actually at about 67% and I'm very fast and agile.

Just wanted to let you know as I wasn't sure you or many others knew about that feature.

Sell low level gear. Disassemble all else. If you get desperate, you can sell the disassembled material for more than the actual weapons sold for.

One thing I am doing in this game is getting through levels and finding that I missed a few Kodama. So after I level up some more, I revisit these areas and locate the rest. Some are very well tucked away. Great fun. Find a piece of equipment that has Kodama sense on it to help you locate the little buggers on the mini map.
