This is the part that concerns me the most. Heroes are fun, but at it's core this is still a FPS. Those star cards seem to be very necessary to that core.

What part of that isn't grindy? If you're after crafting parts and you buy a hero crate after an hour of play then how many crafting parts does it net you? Do you need to get multiple crates to have enough parts for 1 upgrade, or does 1 crate net you enough parts for multiple upgrades?

Would you (or anyone who has played) mind providing some personal experiences? I'm sure you can't give exacts, but just some rough estimates?
    -Total time played
-Total credits earned (both from normal grind and achievements, maybe even broken out for credits gained from crates if possible).
    -Loot crates opened
    -Star cards received
-Any other economy items I may have missed.
-Maybe also an example of the type of cards you currently have equipped as well.

My concern here is 2 fold. First, if takes 1+ hours to unlock some crafting parts and 2+ hours to get trooper cards then it sounds like the average player will need to invest upwards of 20 hours or more to catch up to someone who spent money (ie: a fair FPS match). Second, are the early on bonuses just enough to keep you competitive through the first tier but then you fall flat versus cash shop players at higher tiers because you suddenly can't easily open 10 lootboxes to get enough crafting parts for the next round of upgrades?

I think it would be helpful to get some real world data on the above.

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)

Just looking at raw numbers from challenges and the campaign alone, you'll get 32,650 credits (that number may be off by a small amount, there was a LOT to add up), 1,250 crafting parts, 1,085 crystals and 23 free loot crates.

The crystals can only be used to buy loot crates, with 110 crystals needed for a Hero crate, 120 for a Starfighter crate and 200 for a Trooper crate.

So you could get 5 free Trooper crates or 9 free of the Starfighter or Hero crates using the crystals you're rewarded for completing challenges.

So you get a decent amount of stuff just for completing challenges.

To add another twist to the recent fallout, turns out the "dev" mentioned in countless articles and used as an example of gamers sending death threats doesn't work for EA at all.

Someone told me today they lowered the possible 50,000 credits yo ucould receive on the campaign to only 5000. Meaning, 5000 is the highest you could get? Can someone confirm?

Someone confirmed this earlier. Basically they scaled the campaign bonus so that you could unlock the hero Idina with just those credits if you chose to do so.

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)

So I have been catching up on the handful of responses the devs have made in the AMA, and it's just more fluff.

It's more of the "we'll adjust as necessary" without actually admitting that the current system is flawed.

There are two conversations that I saw which I did find intriguing.

First, one thing that I did find interesting was someone asked about cosmetic loot boxes. Based on the Dev response it sounds like they actually weren't restricted by the Star Wars franchise from creating cosmetic items as has been speculated.

              Redditor PachytheDino posted
I for one would pay 20-30$ in total for cosmetics loot boxes. Star Wars is filled with so many different species and different squads in each faction. What is the reasoning behind loot boxes affecting gameplay instead of just having cosmetic loot boxes? Is it too late to change the system? You could make so much money on this alone
              d_Firewall (DICE Dev) replied
Nothing is too late. As you've noticed, we weren't able to get the customization system into the game in time for launch. I'm actually having artists and designers walk up to me today showing me cosmetic stuff they really want to get out there. I think we have probably the best looking Clone Troopers ever made and I know players really want to customize them (I know I do). I can't really commit to a date just yet, but we're working on stuff and I believe it will change the game tremendeously on all levels.

              ----

This one I also found to be very interesting as it seems to indirectly acknowledge that the star cards give an advantage.

              Redditor AsexualAmeba posted
My job keeps me incredibly busy, and, often times, I just want to come home and relax against AI. I’ve noticed that the amount of credits is capped per day in arcade mode to 500. With crate’s current cost, I would have to max the system out for eight days in a row to afford just one crate. Do you have any plans to change up the arcade values so more casual players like me could afford more than 2 or 3 loot crates a month?
Update: Also, would any of the future DLC or maps be aimed at the offline arcade modes, or will you be focusing on multiplayer updates?
              TheVestalViking (DICE Dev) replied
As we want to let players earn Credits offline via a more relaxed game mode, we needed to also find a way to make sure it wouldn't be exploited in a way that would impact Multiplayer. Because of that we made the decision to limit the number of Credits earned to stop potential abuse. We will be looking at data continually and make adjustments to make things as balanced as possible.
As for more Arcade, just like every mode in our game, we want to look for ways to expand it going forward. Unfortunately at this point we don't have anything to share right now, but know that we care about Offline modes.
Maybe it's just me, but that response leaves me with this question. The devs acknowledge that the casual offline arcade could be abused in a way that impacts multiplayer (ie: getting a bunch of credits). So, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to follow up with "In that case how does the ability to purchase these crates not impact Multiplayer?"

Correct, the amount of credits you get from completing the campaign are directly tied to how much it costs to unlock Iden Versio in multi-player.

Befote EA scaled the cost of heroes down, you got 20,000 credits for the campaign because Iden Versio cost 20,000 to unlock. Because Versio now only costs 5,000, they have scaled the amount of credits you get for completing the campaign down to 5,000.

Completing the campaign is basically meant to give you Iden Versio for free in multi-player. You beat the campaign, you get 5,000 credits and you can go instantly unlock Iden Versio.

Now, you don't have to do that if you don't want to. I used the credits I received from the first 7 missions last night, along with what I earned in MP matches and completed challenges to unlock Darth Vader right away. I'm go after unlocking Luke next and then I'll turn my focus on Iden Versio.

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)

                  AMA appears to be over.

I honestly don't think it was a good move for them to come into the AMA the way they did. They wanted to repair relations with the community, but they really didn't provide anything except more fodder.

Almost every question was answered with "we're looking into it", "we can't give specifics", "we don't have a timeline for that yet", and the few actual/indirect answers they gave bring out more negative questions.

The one post I found about 2% promising for this game was the goodbye from Dennis. I'll quote the full post below, but the tldr is "we will fix this".

                  It remains to be seen

Big thank you to everyone who stopped by! I hope you feel the questions we answered provided clarity and hope going forward. We really appreciate the mods doing their best on a very short notice.
The goal with this AMA from our perspective is to give you a look at where we are in digesting the feedback we've gotten over the past week.
We were incredibly saddened by the negative response from you, the community on Reddit about the game. In-fact, we hated it, we truly did, because we want to make a game that you love. We've made a really cool, fun and beautiful game but it was overshadowed by issues with the progression system. We will fix this.
Stay tuned for more specifics and details once they get set, we’ll be sharing as much as we can, in our blog, in our forums and here. We'll be around Reddit so please be sure to tag us in posts you'd like to get dev eyes on.
Thank you again and may the Force be with you.
                  Dennis

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)

I haven't played the full game yet (can't wait for Friday), but the whole progression/pay to win thing doesn't bother me. As someone who has little time for gaming, I've accepted that I'm going to get worked in multiplayer, so I wouldn't have time to get good enough to make buying all of the power ups worth it. I'll probably spend most of my time (especially early on) in arcade mode and with the singleplayer story. I'd much rather there be free DLC maps and other content with loot crates instead of vice versa.

My concern is that we're going to see less licensed titles because developers will think the cost won't be worth what you get back if they aren't able to make money on microtransactions. We've already seen licensed sports titles go by the wayside (RIP College Hoops) because of the cost/benefit of licensing and I think it could happen to Star Wars and other properties.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. If it is a good, fun game, hopefully, people will be able to get through the progression issues to enjoy it.

I'm willing to give the EA devs the benefit of the doubt when they say they'll fix all of this. I think they've realized what a **** up they've made in the eyes of the internet communities after all the backlash over the last couple weeks.

I look at a game like No Man's Sky, that game was savaged online after it was released, and yet those devs eventually started listening to the community and fixing all the issues and complaints and now I see a lot of people saying how much they enjoy NMS after all the fixes and updates.

With EA, this was a far larger than normal backlash over stuff like micro-transactions and loot boxes, far more massive than I had seen for other recently released games with these things in them, so I think they realize something needs to be done and this won't just blow over. I don't know what they will decide to do in response or what they're plans are, but I see no problem with people giving them a chance to correct things.

Now if they screw it all up even worse, then they deserve all the hate and venom they're currently receiving.

There is no benefit of the doubt with EA.

If they're screwing customers its usually by design to line their pockets, not by mistake.

Sean Murray is a liar and far from a community favorite.

There is no reason to align oneself with a corporation that's trying to finesse you as a customer.
