re: Battlefield 2042 - Launching October 2021
Hearing them talk about working on a tornado for 3 years and their general evaluation of what is successful in Battlefield like BF1 Suez Canal just makes me worry a little. I'm afraid they are too focused on scale and theatrics and the gameplay itself will suffer.
At the end of the day if the game is fun that's all that matters. I just hope everything is properly balanced because air dropping vehicles on the map and letting every class/specialist carry an RPG makes me nervous. There's a lot going on at once and they haven't been able to properly balance even 64 player servers yet. Best case scenario is well balanced and we can load in a bunch of people into a server without killing it because right now if you get more than 4 good players in a server it's going to be one sided.Comment

Re: Battlefield 2042 - Launching October 2021
Understood. I get allowing every class to use all weapons. BF4 already did this to a degree. I understand their goal with that freedom and it makes sense to me. I don't think it will change the game as much as some are thinking it may.
However, I don't like the idea of all classes being able to use all gadgets. I think that is taking freedom too far and moving the game away from what it is at its core. I think the open gadgets idea is where more potential problems sit than anything else at the moment.
I wish that you still needed to be an engineer to use anti vehicle gadgets. I wish to be a medic you needed to be a support role. Now we may see guys running grappling hooks, RPGs, long range rifles, and a med crate or ammo crate essentially making their one character be the role of 3 of the 4 classes.
I would like the see Dice revert back to forcing gadgets to be restricted by class. Maybe when we get to try it ourselves it won't be a big issue, but right now my biggest worry with the info we have now is that any gadget can be used with any class. That about defeats the importance of classes which I think has always been a staple of the series. I've always liked knowing to do a certain role you had to be a certain class and that you could tell who was who on the Battlefield by their character model appearance reflecting their class.
I feel bad for players who use vehicles all of the time. Good luck to them surviving out there when theres a good chance each team is going to have 50 RPGs on it.

Re: Battlefield 2042 - Launching October 2021
I see via reddit that each specialist has a gadget they come with and then the other slot is where you choose from RPG's, crates, etc. That makes me feel a little better knowing a guy can't run an RPG and ammo crate at the same time.
Essentially the system works now by you choosing a specialist who comes with a special gadget and trait. Then picking your 2nd gadget is similar to picking what class you want to be. Want to be a medic? Run the med crate. Want to be AT? Run one of the rockets
I feel like they could have left the class system in place and just had all guns available to them, but the way they're going about it is more confusing upfront, but essentially leads to a nearly identical result.
There will still be snipers who camp out with ammo boxes, but the fact that there is some sort of gadget restriction in place in terms of how you can basically only choose one means that nobody can become some do it all solider which was what I initially feared. You'll still need a well rounded squad to be able to heal one another, do repairs, resupply, take out vehicles, etc.
I feel somewhat better about the change and think getting my hands on it may help me accept it more if it is balanced.

When they get towards the midway point of the interview they start asking developers what their favorite part of the game is and one of them actually answers that it's the tornado.

BF4: Levolution
BF1: Behemoths
BF5: Attrition (thank goodness this is gone)
We haven't seen any map destruction that is dynamic yet? So an RPG to a building, C4 to a wall...I'm curious how this will play out.
I'm a bit concerned about ANYBODY being able to call in a vehicle, as it's pretty clear this BF will rely heavily on them, both as transports and combat in general. I hope that doesn't mean there are 50 tanks at a given time.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

There are vehicle limits on each map, so each team may only be allowed 5 tanks at one time for example.
What did you not like about attrition? It seems the majority disliked attrition, but I personally don't notice it really changing anything when I play V. I find myself running out of ammo more in BF 4 than I do in V since I've been playing each a lot lately.

re: Battlefield 2042 - Launching October 2021
The thing about DICE is everything is subject to change until the final game and even then, it could still change depending on what it is. They teased a feature where you could drag your squad mates to cover to revive them for Battlefield V and then it was not in the actual game.
One of the most annoying things about Battlefield V to me is the spotting flares. Being constantly spotted by planes and some bush wookie with a ZH-29. With all the advanced technology I am not sure how they are going to balance that either with the new game so really everything keeps circling back around to balance for me.

One positive I can think of with vehicles is part of the issue with large maps in BFV is the lack of ways to get from place to place. Having to hoof it across wide open spaces with zero cover makes for a bad time for everyone not in a tank which is why so many people gravitated towards the smaller maps or medium sized like Rotterdam. Being able to call in an ATV or something like that would be pretty nice.Comment

I do not mind attrition that much but having the ammo and health boxes everywhere kind of devalued the need for classes which kept some people from branching out and trying new things.
The destruction was something unique to Battlefield that they got away from the past two games. Yeah you still get basic building destruction but nothing that really changes the landscape of the game. Personally I hated the fortification crap in BFV too. Seeing someone sitting in the spawn building sand bags for three hours to get a few points or building barbed wire fences where you don't really need some and making life harder on everyone.

With that said, scale & theatrics I thought were the biggest flaws of BF3 & BF4 so I'm right there with you.
I remember the videos. I still haven't decided which route I'm going for next gen consoles (I'm only a social gamer at this point - 100% Multiplayer) but the opportunity to get in on something like this would definitely sway meLast edited by iLLosophy; 06-20-2021, 09:13 PM.Comment

It's not been stated yet. EA Play is coming up, so hopefully we hear something then.

Also, Dice LA confirmed that part of the redacted mode is a bunch of prior game maps being remastered. That gives a lot of credibility to the BF Hub leaks.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

The Portal looks amazing. I don't see myself not putting 1000s of hours into this game if they don't screw it up.
