totally. good way to put it, the destruction is there too with the ground deforming as well with 'nades/c4

Anyone who liked BF4 more than the ww1/2 stuff will be right at home - it's not the setting it's the gameplay - it's almost like bf4 and this game were done in succession by the same team and the last couple were somebody else if that makes sense.

Battlefield is returning to its roots!

I got one game in with my boy and you don’t have to level up to add a scope to any gun just hold LB on Xbox and press Y. Holding LB and pressing B changes between standard, close combat or high powered mode for the gun, LB and A for handle/grip, I forgot what X changes but definitely agree with you on field of view.

        Re: Battlefield 2042 - Launching October 2021

Played one game last night. Not sure the huge 120+ player games are for me.

I was getting shot at and killed from every direction. I was having problems with recoil and couldn't kill anyone ever at close range after hitting them multiple times. Admittedly, I'm not as good at BF than I am at COD. I'm interested to see some of the smaller maps and match sizes.

So I'm on the fence with a purchase at this point. I hope I can try out the smaller games somehow before I buy it.

            Re: Battlefield 2042 - Launching October 2021

I'm enjoying the beta so far on PS5. It feels really smooth but there are graphical glitches at times with bodies in the air & the framerate can get stuttery at times. I was a gunner in a tank & the screen was choppy & I couldn't really aim well so bailed out. It's a beta so these things should be addressed by launch. I did have to get used to the attachment wheel when adjusting my weapon but I do like it. I did get more comfortable with it the more I played. The map is huge & you do a lot of running but thankfully it's not a chore because of the speed & fluidness. There are also AI that you play against which it says in the kill feed when you kill them. It's near future but the tech in the game didn't bother me. Looking forward to playing more & checking out other classes.

              Re: Battlefield 2042 - Launching October 2021

I played about 4 hours of the beta last night. I think I'm already burned out on it but that's mostly because it's the same map and there are some settings limitations. Here are just some random thoughts I have:

              - The spawn system is not good. You can have 4 really talented players on an objective and have zero chance with the way it works. I watched 8 people spawn right in front of me in a field when defending an objective and there was just nothing I could do about it. On one hand it's good for clans trying to play with more people and not ruin a server but on the other hand it's frustrating.

              - Helicopters take almost no damage from ground fire. I'm not sure if the anti-material rounds on the LMGs make a difference but just the standard rounds aren't doing anything you can forget about it.

              - I don't necessarily dislike the gunplay but it doesn't seem like any of the weapons have significant recoil patterns to memorize. For as bad as BFV was at content they got that right. That's part of the problem with the longer engagement distances.. people don't have to think about their weapon selection really. Sniping has also taken another step backwards. I just don't like that you get very little weapon recoil for holding down the trigger on the LMG.

              - The beta doesn't have a lot of the control tuning that is in BFV. If you want to flip your aim and fire to L1/R1 you have to do it in the PS5 controller settings. I hope that's in the actual game. If I was giving someone starting advice it would be to go to your settings and increase FOV to at least 40 right away and lower the default axial and horizontal deadzones because right now they are way too high.

              - Specialists were not a very good idea IMO. Besides the fact that both factions have the same specialists and it's hard to find discernable differences between your teammates and the enemy, they are going to become kind of pointless when everyone is running the same specialists. Right now you can equip ammo and med boxes to your soldier so the ability to heal with the pistol is really pointless. There's not much reason not to use the grappling hook. The proximity grenades are also a problem if everyone has them.. you're constantly spotted.

              - Cross play is a problem. I would rather play with PS5 only or maybe even just PS5 and XBOX but these PC guys can turn on a dime with a flick of the mouse. For people on a controller you can do that with the right settings but you sacrifice something for it. I don't trust that they are going to have an anti-cheat system that actually works. If you log on right now and try to turn cross play off it loads you into a server thats < 50% bots because everyone has cross play on and there's not enough to fill the server.

I have a lot of other thoughts but this is getting long. I don't want to be a negative Nancy because I plan on buying the game and I want to enjoy it BUT I'm really concerned about the game's balance right now. They claim this is a 3 month old build but why would you release the last open beta that is 3 months old? When you look at the popular content creators their beta experience doesn't even look the same. Their player names are things like "Battlefield 2042 Player Test 4" or something along those lines. It was probably an in-person LAN setup where they could record or a closed server deal.

I just hope they iron a lot of this stuff out by launch. I think some of the issues can be fixed when the vehicle call in system works but we'll see I guess..

I figured that out when accidentally not holding down the rb hard enough to call in that metal dog thing.
Not sure how I feel about being able to change your loadout on the fly like that - you can choose iron sites (nope!) distance scope whre you could realistically hit someone 200-400m away, silencer, muzzle break, no idea on the ammo - it isn't labelled or I can't see it - they should really have some text there as it's not really easy to know what you're selecting.

ON another note - in bf4 you could adjust the zero of the scope making ranged kills more fun as you zero in or use 'doping' which made sniping feel more 'real' like you have to either range-find or do it manually based on landmarks to dial it in and I really liked that. Not to mention the hunter (20x) scope and the massive 40x I was able to get a 1200m kill vs another sniper in that game it was awesome. This one seems more streamlined which imo takes the fun out of it, I hope they have zero ability and also a wide variety of scopes with different magnifications. The 'glint' is huge though like a big "here I am" sign, they could tone that down a bit as - at least with the default gun, and much faster soldiers, sniping is a bit underpowered imo.

The other poster saying the grapple hook is useless, well I've been killed a bunch by stealth types zipping up to my vantage points, it's also good to get to those areas faster as getting some good sight lines takes a bit of work!

Before I buy I'd love to see a complete weapon list and attachments as well as how many launch maps and to know about firing modes and zeroing etc. for what it's worth I AM having fun though.

Sup yall, definitely had to make my way out of catacombs for this! Liked mostly what I've seen and heard. Hate the specialists but otherwise positive to me.

Can't wait to see how it'll play once it goes live!

                      Re: Battlefield 2042 - Launching October 2021

yeah, one negative that I'm realizing is the movement speed is so fast that the entire gameplay experience is less deliberate, which def lowers the strategy and does get a cod vibe creeping in. The speed and/or sprinting should be nerfed a bit and make things more deliberate. You can kind of zig zag and parachute around fast/slide, and I take back what I said earlier about the bullet speed - it seems ok until the distance is a bit bigger than it is pea-shooting.

kind of back on the fence to be honest...there's just so many optinos right now for shooters too. Insurgency, BF, COD, FaryCry, PUBG (still updating),

Another thing I noticed too, probably because of cross play is the skill level is super high which is something that turned me off of PUBG which mitigates the fun to an extent. I've noticed I'm getting owned CQC, with super-aim bunny hopping spaz's ... This goes back to the more deliberate comment - that would mitigate that a bit. Plan where you want to go with somewhat of a route, and not be able to rely on super-human athletic and gadget ability, just gunplay is what I'd prefer.

The A & D spam from MNK users on PC is rough. My biggest fear with this game launching with issues is it's going to kill the player base and everyone will be forced to play with crossplay on in the 128 player modes to keep from playing against a bunch of AI. If the final build is anything like this one then there's a big advantage for PC players even with assist on console. Any time I get dunked on it's always a PC guy and it's not always a skill gap issue. Console is going to run 60 while PC will be 120 with a real latency advantage.

I'm also hoping for some legacy controls for vehicles. I can barely fly a helicopter now but I'm trying to get used to it anyways. A lot of the times I'm just out of control aiming like garbage lol.

I played maybe 10 minutes the other night just to see it running. I ran it with the Ultra Preset to see how optimized it was and it ran surprisingly well. The game is beautiful. It felt a bit empty at times, though, which was weird for 128 people. I'm about to really get into the beta today and through the weekend to get some real impressions.

I'm still stuck with a PS4, so that's my test rig for the beta. Honestly, the game is kind of ugly. I've been playing Call of Duty for the past couple years now, and MW2019 set a relatively high bar, I guess. I imagine they shifted their focus on the development of this to the newer generation plus PC, and I'm fine with that, it's just unfortunate using old hardware. It could also just be this map or beta limitations/compression.

There are tons of glitches, too. Bodies floating in the air. Dead players that look alive - still standing - that I end up shooting at only to waste a magazine. The physics feel off. Maybe playing too much Cold War has messed up my senses (and I don't really like that game). I admit, it's been a while since I've played BF4 so it's hard for me to make a direct comparison.

It definitely looks and feels like Battlefield, for the most part. Some of the future tech I don't love. I prefer present-day grounded shooters, but I get they can only make so many of them. I'll almost certainly buy the full version either way, just waiting to see if I get a PS5 before the game officially launches. I won't lie, though, and say I'm impressed by this. At least not on the old generation of consoles.

I'm also not to big on 120+ and really only like playing Deathmatch for the most part. I can play the other stuff but mainly with friends if they want to play it and we're running together.
