    Re: GTA Trilogy

They put the game back up to play on PC earlier today so I just got to spend the last couple of hours finally playing the trilogy. I started with III and will play them in order. First impressions are the graphics are a nice upgrade from the originals, unsurprisingly, but they are not IV or V quality, not that they were attempting to be nor was that the expectation. The quality of life improvements are nice. I have yet to experience a bug or glitch personally.

Overall I am pleased with my limited time. I bought it for the nostalgia and to have the 3 titles updated a bit. If the first 2-3 hours are representative of what my entire experience with the trilogy will be then I will be more than happy with the purchase.

I am curious to see how much modding will happen with these editions.

III's version of Liberty City isn't based on New York entirely. It's a combination of all the cities on the east coast. You've got bits and pieces of New York, Philly, Detroit, and Baltimore. Rockstar said that way back when they used to answer questions from fans.

Rockstar Games, Rockstar, Video Games, Games, Gaming, Grand Theft Auto, GTA, GTAV, GTA 5, GTA Online, GTA+, GTA Plus, Red Dead Redemption, RDR, Red Dead Online, PS5, PlayStation, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox, PC Games, Computer Games, Home Entertainment, Home Gaming, New Video Games, Videogames, LA Noire, L.A. I still have my PS2 and all of these games. A lot of the character models are better on the PS2 versions and the original music is included in them obviously.

But the new controls lighting and overall improved graphics makes the $60+ purchase worth it.

You mean the outrage that people are mad that Rockstar didn't go full out like Square and remade a 20 year old game from scratch?

These are 3 20 year old games with a new coat of paint and some much needed QOL improvements. The control updates alone are worth it to me. Children are review-bombing it because they are mad at Rockstar for GTA V's milking, and because they didn't know what they were getting with the trilogy.

I let my nephew play Vice City yesterday. He asked me how we used to play games like this

Maybe I was just more the target demographic for this release

First you had the Final Fantasy 7 knuckleheads that are upset that the 7 Remake is in real-time combat and makes some storyline changes, because they wanted THE ORIGINAL GAME with beefed up graphics

Rockstar sees that, does that to their old games, keep them THE EXACT SAME except with QOL adjustments and graphical upgrades, and now people are slamming them for being lazy and not going above and beyond to "remake" the game

It was a lose-lose, either way, someone wasn't going to be happy

So for the best performing port, your best bet is playing the PS4 version on PS5 (not the PS5 version).

The Switch is largely unplayable, consistently below 30 fps.

              Re: GTA Trilogy

If someone is trying to play it on PC then I definitely understand the frustration because Rockstar's Game Launcher is objectively awful but if the complaint is minimal upgrades then I don't understand what people expected? They had San Andreas free to play at one point and I saw I had to use that launcher and it wasn't even worth the effort of downloading it again.

All I needed to be interested was modernized controls and some sort of save/mission resume system. Now I just wait for the right price point to decide to get it because $60 isn't really worth it to me.

They didn't that I saw and that's part of why I waited. There were a few graphics listing what was being updated floating around on social media too. I did find that a little misleading kind of like the way that Doug Flutie "college football is back" marketing plan went around here a few years ago but the way people consume information now and the ability to buy things instantly I would hope people do a little research before they swipe the card.

I know it takes me a good minute to decide if something is worth the $65-$75 now and even then I've been wrong.

They literally told us what to expect in multiple releases. They stated it would have some updated visuals, a couple of quality of life changes, and the same classic gameplay.

For some reason people were expecting the game to have revamped driving, a new physics system, etc.

Also, I always lol at the launcher talk. What makes the Rockstar launcher so terrible? You just run the application, click play on whatever game you want to play, and you're golden. It doesn't hog resources or do anything obnoxious.

I've always found it funny how often people complain about all of the launchers there are. That's a true 1st world problem. It takes less than 5 seconds to click on a launchers icon to run it then navigate to your library and launch whatever you want to play. People always are acting like you have to spend 15 minutes doing math problems to make any launcher work.

                      Re: GTA Trilogy

I've had some issues where I couldn't launch LA Noire and GTA V. Some of that is just issues with the social club though.

I know some people who have had problems with the Trilogy and inevitably decided just to ask for a refund. I don't own it so can't attest to that and it's just their experience.

It's not about the time to download but just to entertain you I don't see there being a lot of difference in people wanting 1 console so their entire library is in one place and wanting as few launchers as possible.

The Witcher 3 on one launcher, Diablo 3 on another, Halo MCC on the XBOX app, etc. Sure it is a first world problem and it's the price of quality and sometimes a better deal through a sale but for the poor man's OCD mind (it's not real OCD for me) I still don't like having things spread out. I can see why having to be funneled through another launcher would bother someone.

Even if that’s the case, common sense should’ve kicked in for people because

                        1. We knew it was going to be the same exact game.
                        2. The only thing that would be different would be graphics(We ALL knew that it wouldn’t look like a PS2 game on a PS4/PS5 if you’re going to remaster it)

I think the only thing that might’ve caught people off guard was that they were charging $60. Even if you tell people “Well, it’s only $20 a game”, people aren’t gonna want to hear/see that, they’re just gonna see $60 and go off that.

                          GTA Trilogy

I was just talking to my little brother about it because he saw the trailer as an ad (or a recommended video, not sure) on YouTube and asked me. The trailers don’t say it’s a remaster, they just say it’s the definitive edition so he didn’t know. I also doubt he knows the difference between a remaster and a remake to begin with. This is Rockstar, they reach so many people I doubt even half of them are following press releases and stuff like a lot of us do. It’s Dune the video game version.

Besides, we know common sense isn’t all that common to begin with. Regardless, I’m glad the people who are enjoying it are getting what they want out of it.

                            Re: GTA Trilogy

Pretty jarring juxtaposition to me today. Riot is successfully diversifying League of Legends, producing both games and content in other genres and mediums (2 games came out today, and they have well regarded animated series on Netflix, Arcane - with more to come), while Rockstar continues to squeeze water (successfully) from the same stone. What one is doing with the revenue from their franchise compared to what Rockstar is doing with one of the most profitable entertainment properties of our lifetime... I feel kinda cheated.

Ultimately that's where my disappointment lies. You can get into the weeds with the individual issues with the games (textures, performance, etc.. no shortage of problems on every single platform) but that they release this product and call it the definitive edition - makes me feel like perhaps they went by a different definition. I couldn't even give it a name that fits without it seeming crass (maybe bundle them, just call it The Trilogy?). If this really is to be the pinnacle we ever see of these games, it's just sad.

I'm glad some are able to extract enjoyment from it where they can, but it just feels like such a missed opportunity, for new (this seems like a stretch) and old fans alike.

I'm enjoying it, but it is 100% a missed opportunity and Rockstar has nobody to blame but themselves.

They have the resources to have done so much more than they did. I still find my purchase to not be a waste, but I also know they cut a lot of corners that were unnecessary to cut.

Why was this rushed? What was keeping them from really doing these 3 games better? Nothing more than trying to be cheap and greedy, imo.

If I didn't have such nostalgia for the trio I likely wouldn't be enjoying it nearly as much.
