Official OS General MMO Information Thread

Okay, so...

There are hundreds of MMOs out there. Not every one of these games deserves their own thread, in (what seems to be) this forgotten section of the board. Hence, a general information thread for any news of future releases that may not be on everyone's radars.

I will also do my best to keep this area updated with any big news in general with MMOs.

Let me start the thread by saying Origins of Malu is going into closed beta soon. I have no idea what to expect with this game. The only things I have seen on it are: Sandbox, Open-World Housing, (supposedly) not quest hub based like the theme parks are these days. It has PvP, but I don't know if it's all open-world, arenas or a mix of them.

Anyways, the website is http://originsofmalu.com/ . They released more keys for beta in the last couple days (they were almost out after I grabbed mine, but then put in more keys) at Alienware Arena.

Beta sign-ups start today (April 2) and the first two-week beta period is starting April 15. I wish I knew what to expect, but I don't and I am hoping to go in surprised.

Trion needs to learn that when they port ArcheAge over, to leave it as it is. Seriously.

I've been playing this for a couple days now, and even not knowing anything it's a blast. Also, beautiful and runs as smooth as butter (even on my crappy Korean VPN connection.)

doesn't look bad, but the mini map needs to extend further into the field of view.

I'm kinda split on the mini-map. WoW-like maps are nice, because it isn't sprawling all over the screen... it's just stuck up there in the right hand corner in a little box.

This is nice because it shows the full view, with quest areas/markers (color-coded) which is what the colored circles are on the map.

I am not sure which I like better, to be honest. There also may be an option to change types, but I have no idea. I only know how to read basic Korean and romanticized versions of it. I don't know Korean words yet.

I think having the map over more central parts of the screen (a la ARPG games [d2, poe, etc.]) is an unnecessary distraction and takes away from the game, for me.

I will say that I don't know if it's the graphical style of the menu's, or the transitions they use when bringing up inventory/character/etc, but it is extremely smooth both in look and in feel.

I'll grab a couple pictures of the character and inventory screen next time I am in.

Just got into the FF14 beta for A Realm Reborn... and I think per the NDA that is all I can say at this time, as a matter of fact I may have already said too much.

Phase 2 is just controller support added I think.

I haven't been paying attention to the phases... I only signed up to piss off some of my friends, they really want in, but I only have a slightly passing interest in this game.

Yeah they're dragging their feet with the betas... But I hope it means they are doing things right this time. They know they are on their last chance.

Age of Wushu was released. F2P with a cash shop and VIP (basically a sub paid with cash shop gold.)

I don't know what it is. Everything about me should hate the game (based on PvP) but... it's a blast. It's slow, combat isn't quick paced at all... I don't know what it is, but I'm hooked for the time being to pass on to a new game. At least until I can put my finger on why I'm having fun playing it.

Erm... Somewhat.

Basically when you log off, characters have a chance to stay online in some capacity (patrolling the city, doing small jobs to earn money) as an NPC.

When you're logged off, a character that is logged in has the chance to capture you. Other players around can kill him to stop him. It's an interesting concept. You can't just kidnap anyone you see running around though. I spent a good 10 minute chasing a kidnapper through the city but he sold the person right before I could kill him.

Can't wait for the FF14 PS3 beta and for the real game.. I couldn't play the PC version due to crappy computer even though I was hype for it to come out especially after it was announced at E3 to be coming to PS3 but it ended up never being released..
