Re: Official OS General MMO Information Thread
Yea, since the graphics issue was fixed for me I have been enjoying the game quite a bit. Just hit 20 playing the game and not exploiting the few foundrys that can get you to level cap in a day or so and having a good time while waiting on a few more MMOs.Checking out Neverwinter right now, interesting so far. Seems kind of like a bigger Diablo MMO so far just based off the combat which isn't bad as I like Diablo but it got bland after you beat it once. Could be a decent time waster when i'm bored over the summer being home.Comment

Re: Official OS General MMO Information Thread
Exactly what I'm using it for.
It's a decent enough release to play for free until the next few MMOs I'm waiting on. It's a quick paced, fun little romp. I'm also completely free to enjoy the game as I wish, since I am not expecting anything out of this. I don't expect to raid, I don't expect to 'gear up' and I don't expect to grind because I can play whenever I want while I wait for the actual MMOs I plan on playing long-term (right now, FFXIV: ARR - though I am keeping my eyes on Origins of Malu, WildStar and seeing how much western bastardization happens to ArcheAge.)badComment

Re: Official OS General MMO Information Thread
This game will crash and burn quick if they dont get these foundrys under control. I have never, ever, in my entire life seem something so unbalanced and exploitable in an MMO. You are literally able to bypass 4 years of content in less than 1 day and accumulate thousands of gold in the process with an infinite number of toons while paying absolutely zero to the publishers.
Just wow!Comment

sounds a lot like the create a mission mode they added to City of Heroes before that thing was taken offline. This game will crash and burn quick if they dont get these foundrys under control. Any game that uses player creation as a feature is going to run into this problem. Hopefully it fails soon.
I abhor any type of player created type things in MMOs, and honestly to me it shows laziness from developers.
EQ2 had the same thing be exploited, NW has it being exploited as have other games.
Its one of those things that sounds good in theory but will never work out in practice.badComment

Re: Official OS General MMO Information Thread
Yea, but at least Everquest waited quite a while before doing it. This is a brand new game and the moment you step out of the tutorial you have access to reach level cap without ever moving another foot.
Right now if you sit in enclave you have 2 groups of people. Those that are doing the exploit instance to reach level 60 where the mobs cant touch you back, or you have those that have already reached level cap via that instance and are running the few epic dungeons. Basically leaving the majority of the game untouched.Comment

Right. They did wait... But MMOs in the pipeline are trying to promote player created as the future.
Eqnext is a shining example of this. When it was announced, I was excited. My favorite IP coming out with a more sandbox-y game.
As soon as I read the details that they are having a focus on player created content, it dropped to the bottom of my waiting list.
Instanced dungeons are another thing I hate, but these days that's a given. If new MMOs keep focusing on player made stuff, I will stop playing the genre and foot anyone who knows me... That is truly something.badComment

Re: Official OS General MMO Information Thread
I dont think all player generated content would be bad, just look at Counter Strike.
Having said that, I think awarding people experience / currency to complete user content leads to trash like what we have here in Neverwinter. The solution is an easy one, make the foundrys drop little to no loot or experience and you wont have instances created that are nothing but a gaggle of ogres in a box that cant attack you back.Comment

Yeah but creating a map or a skin in an fps is much different than creating content to do in an mmo.
Can't really compare the two genres in that regard.
Without the ability to drop loot / currency (or xp) there is literally zero incentive to do or create player generated content, while when that option is there it will always be exploited and used improperly by the majority.badComment

Re: Official OS General MMO Information Thread
Was playing some Rift last night and enjoying my last week of my sub and thinking if I wanted to up or not. Someone in the chat was talking about a Raptr giveaway. Went to the site and signed up to get some Rift awards. Included the expansion for free and a bonus 30 days. That is some serious value. I also scored some new shoulders and helm all for a two minute signing in process.
Not sure if you get a free 30 days and exp for non subscribers but might be worth checking out.Comment

Re: Official OS General MMO Information Thread
It's pretty rockin.
Expect release in mid-to-late July by the way. Early August if it gets delayed.
Should have been earlier, but Sony is causing a huge gap in beta due to the PS3 client needing approval.badComment
