Re: Official OS General MMO Information Thread

    Speaking of Neverwinter...

On some other cesspool of a forum tucked away in the corners of the internet, I guess there was a thread about people doing that getting banned.

Which, to me, is ridiculous. If you give someone materials and tools, you can't be pissed when they build something. It was bad design to just release the foundry to the wild and not expect this to happen and it shows even worse customer service/pure laziness of the team to think that banning players will work.

It's just like putting a band-aid on a blown off limb. There is no rhyme or reason to the decision and it shows they are incapable of attacking this problem from any other angle that would show logic.

Not surprising, considering who made the game but disappointing none the less.

Seems like if players want to get right to end game then it should be fine to let them. I enjoy the leveling process and would never personally use exploits.

I'm sure the devs are more concerned with people getting to max level right away and not buying things from the shop because they've effectively completed the game.

        Right.

There is a myriad of reasons this was horrible and a loss of revenue would be priority one.

This game will live or die based on the cash shop. Most of the items they sell via cash are convience or quality of life items and that is supposed to recover costs and post a profit.

By allowing exploiting like this you are....

--removing any need for anyone to ever want to purchase potions or rez items
--removing the need or desire to purchase a mount since you literally never leave the starting zone
--remove the need or desire to purchase backpacks to haul all your loot back from questing
--remove the need or desire to upgrade your bank space to hold all your multi-lvl enchantments
--allowing the exploitation of Astral Coin currency which can be traded in for the RL currency, thus removing the need to ever spend real cash on the Zen market
--players get burnt out much faster
--harder for people like you that actually want to run through the game to find like minded people
--completely bypass 4 years of custom content created by the studio in less than a few hours
--people get to end game, realize there are only a few hard modes to grind, go to forums and complain...thus driving away potential new customers.
--an exploit of this nature discourges new players because they have a perception that many others got unfair advantages that they didnt, thus making them not play

Plenty of reasons for them to not want people to hit end game from start to finish in hours.

Not sure if you get a free 30 days and exp for non subscribers but might be worth checking out.
I think the raptr rewards require you to have a rank of Experienced or above in Rift... so yeah.

Re: Official OS General MMO Information Thread

I honestly don't understand the whole "how fast can I reach level cap" grind in any MMO. So the issue with Neverwinter would never have occurred to me to try or think about.

I played the first part of the game last night and it seems interesting I will keep at it. For me a game has to have a good story to it, which is why I have a hard time getting into most MMOs. The Old Republic with it's class based storyline with conversation choices has been the only one I could really dig into. I'm not a fan of the grind for levels or crafting or anything of that nature. I want a good story but to also have the MMO setting.

I figure this is why 90 percent of the time I play single player games. I'm just not going to get the in depth story I want without having to grind through menial tasks to get a high enough level to continue it.

Thinking of trying out The Old Republic since it's gone free-to-play. I have NEVER played any MMO but I am a huge Star Wars and KoTOR fan so I thought this would be a great game to test the MMO waters out.

Any thoughts on the game from fellow OSer's? Do I have to make friends?

It's... better than it was at release?

I don't know, having never played an MMO before you may enjoy it. The only thing worthwhile in that game is the story, at any rate. The rest of it is pretty lolbad.

It's pretty much pay-to-win and they badger you quite a bit to pay money in the cash shop. I'd say give it a try, you may like it.

I just know it's not a game I'd ever play (not to my tastes at all.)

SWTOR is the only MMO I've ever been able to put more than a couple hours into and it's because of the story and characters.

I've never been free-to-play on it so I'm not sure how much you lose out on with it, but I still have my subscription and still play it.

It's not for everyone, hardcore MMO players most likely will hate the small areas, guided paths, and such. I really loved the game and still do, but like the post above me, some people don't think much of it at all.

I hate, hate, hate PvP in MMOs so any issues with that in SWTOR I didn't notice or even bother to find.

How is rift? I may buy it for 10 bucks and see if I can't get to experienced on raptr within the first month to get another month free plus the expansion. Is it worth 10 dollars?

                      Definitely worth the money.

The amount of content is staggering at this point.

It is often compared to WoW for its theme park nature and the soul system (skill points) is more comparable to Diablo or Path of Exile than an MMO (you have a TON of options). I play a lot of Guild Wars 2 so Rift is the perfect compliment to it with more traditional quests. The most recent change I've noticed for the better is Public Quests like group quests that depending on the amount of people that join can turn into a public open world raid with bosses and loot and the whole nine. Easily the best part of the game.

I would highly recommend it, especially with the Rapt bonus but some people don't like how WoW like it can be and what are now considered to be outdated MMO mechanics.

Rift is the second best MMO (behind WoW) on the market now.

If you enjoy MMOs, I'd say pick it up especially for that price. It's a fun play, if you know what type of game you're getting and don't expect earth shattering differences.

10 bucks is a steal for that game, I liked it a lot. even the PVP wasnt so bad in Rift... actually the more I think about it the more I kinda miss that game.

Probably has to do with how much money they're making on micro transactions on the F2P games. I say this as someone who's probably opened 60 Nightmare boxes in Neverwinter.
