Forgot to mention I've been playing the FF beta for the past two weeks and have been having fun with it. I don't know how likely I am to play it when it's released but it's pretty cool so far. I've only gotten up to level 10 but I can already see it has the makings of a ridiculous time sink. Tried using my controller but it just felt awkward and slow, quickly went back to kb/m.
    PS: You guys are great.

Ok, I have played Firefall a little, but can I be honest about the questing system going on here... I dont think I like it very much... I can only really choose the destination of the next current objective right ?
There isnt really a quest log ? its just show up here and discover dudes doing something you should stop, start shooting and hope you complete the mission ?

Im slow. so if I am missing something someone help me.

I'm by no means an expert with it yet, but I can already see that I'll have a much better time with the controller. I was able to handle the L15 raid twice with a duty finder party just fine (even got compliments from a tank who has CLEARLY been doing this longer than me). The second try even ended up down a party member on the boss (disconnected), where I had to do a decent amount of DPS AND heal when needed. That one was epic.

As a conjurer - prototypical squishy mage - I can switch fluidly between healing (any member or my all-heal Medica), helping to focus attack an enemy by switching to Cleric Stance first, and to switch between attacking multiple aggroing enemies (with an occasional fluid aura to knock one back) without targeting anything else on accident, if I start drawing heat and the tank isn't helping. The controls are there, it's just a matter of simplifying the targets you can cycle between on the controller to execute efficiently. You can have 4 different targetting settings along with the main one through a Left Button + ABXY combination. You can set each of those to only allow you to select specific targets, like my "only aggroed enemies" one. That way I don't end up attacking something else on accident and drawing more fire.

Like I said I'm no expert, but if there's anything you want to know about using the controller just ask or PM me (I think the NDA only applies to videos at this point). I still need to set up some macros and such - that's probably my next project.

Saw that Firefall was in open beta now and was curious about it. Any other impressions/details?

So for the fiancee's birthday we're going to Vegas from the 31st - August 5th before we head to San Fran for a couple days.

We're debating on going to SoE Live (at least for the EQNext debut) even though she doesn't game. Decisions, decisions.

I played FFXI when I was in iraq on a 360.
Playing an MMO on a console is different, but you get used to it after awhile. Def need a keyboard thou.

Has anyone played A Realm Reborn on the PS3 yet? FFXI was my first MMO and while it was a gigantic time sink, it had some great ideas. I really enjoyed it thou. I think I got my Taru up to lvl 54 WM and 31 BM.

I would be very interested in this game if soloing is possible.

I haven't played the PS3 version but one of my friends did and he said the load times were horrible. I'm guessing they might be able to improve that a bit by optimizing the game but I wouldn't count on it. He also said the game looked pretty bad compared to the PC version but he has a 1440p monitor and a $2k+ computer so I would try signing up open beta that's supposedly starting around the 9th of August and checking it out for yourself.

Probably spent $100 on Neverwinter, enjoyed the experience, but like most MMOs I didn't stick to it because I wasn't playing w/ friends.

Picked up a founder pack, a bag or two, a couple other niceties. Was fun, no regrets, I look forward to how they continue to evolve the game. Got my cleric to 35 or so.

Final Fantasy XIV phase 4 beta will be starting in about 2 weeks or so. The progress from Phase 4 will carry into retail (barring any game breaking glitches that they would need to reset the progress for) so Phase 4 will basically be the "unofficial" release of the game. Anyone that is planning to play that doesn't have a specific server they're going to already, should go to Sargatanas server. We can use this as an OS server and we can even make a linkshell to chat on in-game.

The majority of my time spent thus far in the beta has been as a conjurer, so I'll be happy to take up the healing banner for team OS once Phase 4 starts. Will definitely create at least one character for that server.

And damn, I can't wait for this beta to start again. Never been so excited to play an MMO - not even close.

I would recommend joining an already established guild like the one Ubernoob belongs to. Massive amount of people across many different games so there is always someone to play with that you know.

I think OS has tried to do a guild in every MMO released in the last decade it seems and if 10 people are interested, all 10 roll on a different server based off of old guild / friends / higher lvl toon to help etc.

This way you always have a guild to play with and a huge group of friends to play with when they are around as well. Best of both worlds.
