You could always cut a hole in the bottom of a sleeping bag in run in that.

Now the whole garbage bag idea doesn't sound half ********. :y4:

What people lose sight of when trying to produce a "good sweat" is that you need to be constantly removing the sweat from your body. Sweating is the body's natural cooling mechanism. If you allow the sweat to run and continue, you are actually not working your body as hard. You should be attempting to remove the sweat as often as possible to maximize your workout.

I've lost 70 pounds since the first week of June, dropped double digit inches, lowered by body fat by half, and I am running my first competitive 5K in the spring. I'm certainly not an expert, but nothing corny (like running in a garbage bag) is going to help more than a good diet, weights at least 3-4 days a week, and plenty of cardio.

I ran my first ever 5k on Saturday and finished 17th!

I have much more to go though... there were times in the 5k that I was hurting and wanting to stop.

How long did you train? What was your time?

It's funny, 3 months ago I was sucking wind after 2 minutes on the treadmill at 5mph with a no incline. It's amazing what the body is capable of when trained.

My goal is the 5k in spring and the 10k in my hometown in September. We'll see.

I"ve probably trained on and off for a month. Usually 2 to 3 miles every other day. This isn't optimal training and it showed in the race when I was beaten by guys way older than me. My new training thing is to run everyday, and to add a quarter of a mile to each day's routine.

I finished it 25:24 on a hilly track which isn't bad for my first time, but if I don't get under 24:00 in my next 5K I'll be dissappointed.

I've been having a funky pain in the arch of my left foot, I'm gonna give running/jogging a break for a while and hit up the stationary bike and eliptical.

70 pounds in 5 months. Is that even healthy?

I read this post this morning, and when I went to work out today, it stuck with me. Pretty good advice.

Glad to hear your doing so well, Clay.

Anyway, I gave the stationary bike a shot and I'm definitely going to stick w. that instead of running/jogging for a while. It kept the pain in my foot to a minimum and my back felt great afterwards because I didn't have to endure the constant pounding of running. I had never really rode a bike before cept during rehab of ankle injuries when I was playing college ball.

Has anyone ever done a spinning class? I think mostly women do them, but I might try one of those workouts. Yesterday I rode the bike for 30 minutes at 20 MPH (the machine said I went about 9.8 miles and burned 400 cal, but I'm sure it's not too accurate) and I felt great afterwards. It doesn't get you as winded as running but my legs were more sore, mostly because I was using my quads more than when I run.

It'll be a nice change of pace for the next six weeks til all my bball leagues start.

ive decided to start back my exersize and deit today. Somewhere along the line I lost motivation and pretty much stayed at my same weight. Now I have new motivation and feel ready for it this time.

Ride the stationary bike. It shouldn't bother your ankle too much.
