Ok question. I've been going to the gym 4 times a week for the past 3 weeks, and now I'm at the point where I would like to go more often then that. I was just wondering how safe it would be for me to go more often, or if I should just stick with what I'm doing?

As long as you are not doing the same bodyparts every session i don't see in any harm in going more. The most jacked guy i know goes 6 days per week and dosen't seem any worse for it.
Personally i find i get burnt out if i go more than 3 or 4 times per week but that's just me and everyone is different.Comment

I like to go in there and work full body. 1 set per exercise. 10 exercises. It only takes about 20 minutes.
This allows me to go almost everyday, because the body can recover from that quickly. But if I were to double or triple up on sets, then I would probably need a couple days off to allow my body adequate recovery.
And Like Jonesy said, if your hitting different body parts everyday, then you should be fine.
Like I said, it all depends on the volume of work that your doing. The more volume you do, the more time you have to give your body to recover.
If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing exactly?Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
As of right now my work out goes something like this.
Sunday - Off
Monday - Shoulders
Tuesday - Off
Wednesday - Chest/Tris
Thursday - Legs
Friday - Back/Bis
Saturday - Off
I'd just like to shuffle things around a little more so I'm going around five times a week. Thinking about it though I may wait a few more weeks before I change anything. I've been eating a ton lately and it's all healthy food, and I get around 7-9 hours of sleep a night.
I just want to see results right away, but I know that if I stick to it I will, and I just need to remind myself that sometimes.
Any tips or things I should change? I've had the whole eating healthy thing down for two years now, but now its time to start lifting and I'll take any advice I can get.Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
As of now, I usually eat 6 egg whites for breakfast with a little skim milk for a good protein intake. Should I cut down the eggs and add a little oatmeal too? I keep reading that oatmeal is good for breakfast but it doesn't have protein. I tried mixing some whey in but that was a disaster.Villanova Class of 2012

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
IMO the three mandatory classes that should be taught in every grade school/middle school/HS are:
1 - Nutrition (the real truth on calories, what to look for in foods you buy, understanding those fancy ingredients and what they are, etc)
2 - Fitness (more than gym and health class, something besides kickball and badminton)
3 - Finances (the basics at least, how credit cards work, loans, savings, investing)
Try to get kids to think long term when they're young, explain to them how damaging it can be if you do not properly manage one of these areas of your life. I know it's very hard to get kids to see the big picture and not live in the moment but we need to try.
These should be taken every semester in some format, they are the most important three areas of peoples' lives in this day and age, IMO.
Great point, very true. I always try to help my parents, overweight/outta shape friends etc and they'll listen for a day or two but then it's right back to their old habits. Disciple, hard work, motivation - they aren't strengths of most human beings from what I've experienced.New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003

WHOLE EGGS
Reputation: Yolks are bad, whites are good.
Reality: Important nutrients reside in the egg's center.
Recommendation: One whole egg a day.
In the early 1970s, eggs became the poster children for high-cholesterol warnings, causing a precipitous decline in the number of eggs consumed by the average American. But when you throw out the yolk, you're discarding many essential nutrients, including folic acid, vitamin A, selenium and amino acids--the building blocks of protein. A jumbo egg has only tire grams of fat the majority of it unsaturated.
"You can benefit from egg whites," says Percival, "but you can probably get more benefit from whole eggs, and they're not detrimental when eaten in moderation." That last word, of course is key. If you add one whole egg to your otherwise egg-whites-only omelet you can retrieve those important nutrients and improve the overall protein profile of the omelet itself.

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
The main reason I haven't been eating the yolks is because of the fat. But I used to have egg whites and have just 1 of the yolks. I may go back to that because I had heard that the yolks have the most nutrients.Villanova Class of 2012

Yup. Even on a 2,000 calorie/day diet, you're allowed 70 grams of fat. People who work out regularly probably need more calories than that, depending on the intensity of their workouts and their fitness goals.New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003
