    Yeah.

I knew that physical inactivity was bad. But damn, worse than smoking. I would have never thought that.

I looked at the clock yea but I liked it because I know it is helping me get where I need to get. And that is Bruce Lee style body fat %. Don't know where I am at now but I want to have every single muscle in my body visible without me flexing

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.

I don't know why people (including myself up until the past few weeks) always dread going to the gym and working out. I feel so much more refreshed, have tons more energy, and just feel better about myself the next day. Regardless if I went for a half hour or 2 hours.

By the way, even though I overexerted myself last week, was still able to do cardio all last week. I need to improve my diet (especially snacking) but over the past 3 weeks I've already lost 5 pounds. Sans one day, Super Bowl, I've been pretty good...no sodas, fast food, etc. since January 1.

I agree with you here. Up until maybe the past year, I always felt that going to the gym was a hassle. But really, when I'm done my workout, I feel so good.

Looking back at my goals of increasing mass and getting better overall strength, now that they are complete, I feel even better about myself. The twig that I was four years ago would have never thought I'd be able to get where I am today. Really, going to the gym puts fear into many guys, but really, once the workout is complete it's a feeling that everyone should experience more than once.

BTW, I took the tip of killing my tri's from this thread, and I have been killing them over the past month. Results are great!

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.

Want thoughts on this workout. Still coming up with a good regimen for legs and shoulders (Day 3). Day 4 will be full body, and Day 5 is basketball. I also mix in about 15 minutes of abs and 1/2 hour to 45 minutes of cardio after these workouts.

            Too much or too little?

            Day 1 (Bi's and Back)
            Pullups – 3X10
Free Weight Bicep Curls – 3X10
            Forearm Curls – 3X10
            Lat Pull Down – 3X10
            Lower Back Machine – 3X10
            High Row – 3X10
Straight Bar Bicep Curls – 3x10
            Low Row – 3X10

            Day 2 (Chest and Tri's)
            Standard Bench Press – 3X10
            Dips – 3X10
            Incline Press – 3X10
            Decline Press – 3X10
            Tricep Cable Machine – 3X10
            Fly – 3X10
            Isolated Neck Press – 3X10

For the most part that looks pretty good. It's a lot more than what I do since I do lighter workouts 6 days a week.

One thing you might try is mixing in Hammer Curls into your bicep routine. I like doing a combo of those and regular curls.

I also don't really see the point of decline press. My lower chest has developed a lot with just doing regular bench press, it's the upper chest I have had a lot of trouble with.

Spinning classes are no joke because there is really no time for rest. Only bad part is sitting on the bike seat for a hour straight. Well, that and the guys who wear spandex.

Theres a new study out regarding caffeine.

It states that you should take 3.2 mgs of caffeine per LB of body weight prior to a work-out.

As a avid caffeine taker this sounds like alot to me.

One no-dose is 200mgs that would mean A guy weighing 215 lbs would need 3 1/2 pills. Which is a ton.

Holy crap that does seem a lot! Is that for fat loss USF?

I'd never sleep if i took 700mgs of caffeine prior to a night workout!

I found this interesting while reading Men's Health:

From now on, drink at least 16 ounces of chilled H2O as soon as you rise in the morning. German scientists recently found that doing this boosts metabolism by 24 percent for 90 minutes afterward. (A smaller amount of water had no effect.) What's more, a previous study determined that muscle cells grow faster when they're well hydrated. A general rule of thumb: Guzzle at least a gallon of water over the course of a day.

To kind of go off of what I said about physical incactivity before...

Those with Low levels of physical fitness have a higher risk of death than those with diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, and smoking.

                            And...

The ACLS did a study and found that men who were OBESE and FIT, had a lower chance of dying from any cause than men of a HEALTHY body weight but were UNFIT.

You may not want to work out, because you are happy with the way you look and think you're ok because you are not fat. But, you still may not be healthy.

So my plan to swim heavily while lighting lift once per week to try to keep my muscles semi in shape did not work, LOL. I hit the weights hard on Saturday, still sore this morning.

Im just getting started at the gym this week after a LONG layoff. Im already sore from Monday, but have no plan whatsoever. Part of that stems from the fact that i never have done more than just cardio to stay in shape. Any helpful ideas or plans? 3 days a week? Do you just do arms one day (and if so, what exercises), do you do all body everyday?
