If you like bannana's and aren't skipping carbs i always found frozen bannana's in my shakes make them cold and they taste even better.
My standard shake was:
1 cup skim milk
1 cup ice cold water
1/2 a frozen bannana
1.5 scoops vanilla protein powder
2 or 3 ice cubes
Blend it all together and it tastes awesome imo!Comment

If you're trying to gain weight add a tbsp or two of PB and/or 1/2 cup of raw oats.
You can make some delicious stuff if you get a little creative...but cals will add up. Good for bulking.Comment

LOL man i tried adding a tablespoon of PB to the shake a wrote about above and it nearly made me barf. It had an orange layer on the top of it that looked like pond scum and tasted nasty.
Each to their own though...Comment

I don't know what went bad with yours man. I never had the "layer" you described! All the stuff blends together really well.Comment

Yea, I always get that layer too when I do that, to me it doesn't taste that bad though. Not really that good, but edible.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
I used to be really big into weight training for a few years. Really need to get back into it. Here's what i did as far as a routine and supplements. Gained a ton of muscle increased my max. bench press to 420 lbs.
Mon. Heavy weight low reps chest and arms
Tue. Heavy weight back and legs
Wed. Shoulders forearms
Thur. Light weight high reps chest and arms
Fri. Light weight high reps back and legs
On the Heavy chest arms weight days we usually did 4 sets of 3 diff chest, 3 bi's and 3 tri's. The exercises would change up to keep it fresh but bench press was always in there. 10-8-6
Same for Legs and back. 3 legs, usually leg press, then leg extensions and leg curls plus calves. Never squats though, too hard on the knees. Pulldowns always for back then change it up on the other two back exer. 10-8-6
Shoulders always were mixed up, one week heavy one light. We'd usually get in presses, side raises, front raises, and shrugs. Sometimes we'd change it up and "run the rack" start with 55 lb dumbells do as many reps then move down in 5 lb increments till you got down to 5 lb dumbells, a really good shock to the system.
Light days were pretty much the same exercises except you d0 4 sets of 20 reps of a weight you can handle. Ex. 140 on bench.
Also work in some abs as you see fit.
As far as the supplements my best routine was:
Morning 3 amino acid pills
Prework out 3 aminos, Creatine
Postworkout 3 aminos, Creatine, Protein
Before Bed 3 aminos, Protein
Just as important is eating right. The best meal schedule i had was eating 6 small meals a day, which is tough it wears on you and is a chore. You have to be pretty dedicated to stick with that. I only lasted about 6 weeks doing that. Make sure to stick with chicken, fish, simple carbs, tuna, cottage cheese, nuts are a good snack, and tons of water as much as you can handle.Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
So I have a few questions as I'm about to start Winter break which is going to change up my workout schedule.
1. Since I'm planning to work more on getting cut over break, I was wondering how much less weight and how many reps per set to do. Would something like 25, 20, 15 be too many? Lets just say if I curled 120 using cables... how much would I go down to and how many reps per set?
2. If I work out in the morning, I would plan on having a protein shake for breakfast, along with a banana or something. Would that be ok?
3. How much protein per shake is a good amount? I only plan on having one shake a day, but I don't want to overdo the amount in one. I would probably do about 1 and 1/2 scoops, which would be like 35g about.
4. How often should I do the HIIT stuff?
Thanks for the help.Villanova Class of 2012

The weight you lift has very little to do with how cut you get. Big weight does not equal big muscles. Getting cut is 90% diet.
2. If I work out in the morning, I would plan on having a protein shake for breakfast, along with a banana or something. Would that be ok?
That would be fine.
3. How much protein per shake is a good amount? I only plan on having one shake a day, but I don't want to overdo the amount in one. I would probably do about 1 and 1/2 scoops, which would be like 35g about.
The ceiling is 50g. So anything between 20-50g is fine.
4. How often should I do the HIIT stuff?
If you want to get cut I'd do it 3-4x week and I'd go hard. Do it after you lift.
Thanks for the help.Comment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
What are some things to do when you hit a plateau? I haven't been putting on any weight, and it doesn't look like I've been getting any bigger in awhile.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment
