Related to this, saying your deposit is "refundable" when they're going to use most of it for mandatory cleaning, no matter how clean you leave a place. I've had to argue this after leaving every apartment I've lived in.Comment

Apparently them replacing their old, POS dishwasher and me almost being decapitated with a broken fan blade constitutes as extraneous use on our end. Who knew?
My favorite "deductions" are for soap scum in the bathroom and replacing the pull on a ceiling "because we pulled too hard."
Quite the investigators apparently. I wonder who ratted me out? I try to keep it close to my chest that I'm a hard puller.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
My current apartment complex offered me 2 options. $500 refundable deposit or $150 non refundable. I picked the non refundable because I figure they'd make up $150 in damages anyway. Saves us both the hassle.NFL - Vikings

Can't wait to deal with that in a few months.
We moved within the complex and saw a bit of a check due to our new apartment being $125 cheaper a month. But now that we'll be moving out of the complex altogether, interested in how much they deduct.
They do require that you have the carpets professionally cleaned. Is that normal?NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Yes it is. I just had my landlord take it out of mine since it was only $60 and I got back the rest of it that time.
This time - not so much. It took them 3.5 weeks after the stated contract date to get us the security deposit back. This was after contacting them and reminding them twice. The second time I had to give them our new address again. I feel fairly lucky that we got half because them bitches weren't planning on giving us anything.
Some of the things may be legitimate (hauling away bags of leaves), but most of the list is just hilarious to me.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I took the last apartment complex I lived in to small claims court because the lazy management lady mailed my deposit refund check two days after the 21 day deadline. Easy win and got the whole deposit back.
I'd been bent over backward so many times losing deposit on chintzy charges. I was having none of that. Payback karma is a bitch.Last edited by Mabster; 08-10-2015, 06:43 PM.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I lost my deposit at the duplex I used to live at because the carpet they installed in the basement was so low quality it actually came apart when I tried to vacuum it. The "strings" of carpet just sucked right into the vacuum, had to figure out how to take care of that, too.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Last apartment I lived in, they were renovating so everyone was having the same stuff done to the apartment. She still charged me for cleaning (when it was clean and the carpet was getting replaced), charged me for painting (when every apartment was getting painted), and charged me for new locks. Really? You chose to change the locks when I turned in the keys, that's on you. I was 1000 miles away, though, so wasn't going to hassle with trying to get my money back long distance. She was just pissed that she had to find someone last minute because I was one of the few that stayed to the last day of the lease and she didn't have her usual week or two to get someone in at the beginning of the next month.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
This has been grinding my gears for about a year now. But Verizon Fios cable service. I don't want to spend the extra $20 a month for their sports package as their are only a couple of channels I would watch on it. The 2 main channels I want are the MLB Network and NHL Network. And that is where I am pissed off. In their regular HD package they give you the NFL and NBA Networks. WTF are you doing Verizon, either give your customers all of them or none of them!!!Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I think the leagues that control those channels have some degree of say on what pricing tier they are included in on cable providers. I think the only reason NFL network is on the regular package is due to a lawsuit several years ago.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII
