Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
If this was an online thing then that would be different, but when 2/3's of a store's buys are being run on Thanksgiving I just find it asinine. Its either Black Friday or it isn't.
Honestly, I have to commend places like Costco and Chick Fil A for not chasing profits in a purely obvious way. Sure, it pisses me off when I'm hankering for a chicken biscuit on Sunday morning, but good for them anyway.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
^Like I mentioned before, Boxing Day in Canada, turning into a 1-2 week long thing instead of just 1 day anymore.
Don't get me wrong, having lots of sales is obviously a great thing for the customers, but seems like they're just stretching out things and turning a holiday into a weekly sale to the point where people don't even care about the holiday itself anymore, just the shopping. In USA with Black Friday, how people care about that more than Thanksgiving. And in Canada, seems like more and more people(who celebrate Christmas) are caring about Boxing Day sales more than Christmas day/season and spending time with family.Last edited by Majingir; 11-13-2014, 12:28 PM.Comment

What sales specifically, though? I don't have a problem with Black Friday being more than a one day shopping affair, but what I take affront to is starting "Black Friday" sales on Thanksgiving Thursday at 6AM (K-Mart) or 6PM (most other retailers). Next year most retailers will probably open earlier as they don't want to miss out on those glorious dollars.

Personally, I'd like to spend the holidays with my family. Unfortunately, consumer demand forces people like me to have to work.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I think fighting in hockey is one of the stupidest things going in professional sports. I just don't understand the point in it nor why we're ok with it.
It's in the same level as intentionally beaming batters in baseball (especially beaming rookies just for the hell of it). It's dumb.
However neither if these things grind my gears, mainly because I rarely watch either sport. But if they did ban fighting in hockey I think every arguement against banning it would be inherently flawed.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Retail employees like yourself are the ones I feel sorry for. Here in Rhode Island store can open no earlier than midnight on Thanksgiving. Better than heading to work in the middle of dinner but I don't envy them for having to work at night after a day of eating and spending time with family/friends.
Even the laws here don't prevent some consumers from interrupting their holiday to shop. Some of them camp out days in advance or get in line outside in the middle of the day.
I will never understand it. Last thing I want to be doing is standing outside in the cold when I could relaxing inside watching football, eating a turkey sandwich I don't need, and slipping in out of a food coma.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
He's obviously entitled to his opinion. I'd have to hear his side first.
But I've heard too many people say they don't like fighting in hockey, yet are fans of boxing. I'm sorry, but that's a contradiction in my opinion.
Fighting is fighting. Yes, there's different forms of it, but the basic principles of it are the same. You're trying to beat your opponent.
But that's under the assumption he's a boxing fan. I shouldn't jump to conclusions without hearing from him first.Comment

There's a time and place, right?
I don't want to see UFC taking place in the middle of a basketball game. I understand its a "tradition" in hockey, but it seems a little ridiculous to me.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Well I actually don't watch boxing. Not because I'm against professionally fighting or and some peace loving softie. But it's just boring to watch for the most part IMO.
However I don't see the comparison you're trying to make. Not what being a fan of boxing has to do with anything involving fighting in hockey.Comment

Not sure how to formulate this thought, so this probaby won't sound the way I want it to.
Boxing is a terrible example. Boxing is fighting. Boxing isn't a different sport that occasionally breaks out into a fight. Hockey would still be hockey without the fighting.Boston Red Sox

Fair enough.
You'd have to lace up the skates to understand why there's fighting in hockey. It's hard to describe. Words aren't enough.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
You can hate fighting all you want in any sport but if players want to fight they are gonna fight.
Emotions run high in sports. They run even higher in professional sports, the highest level you can play. Players are gonna fight and the only thing you can do is give them harsh punishment to make them not feel the need to do it. It's impossible to "remove fighting from hockey" you can only make harsh punishmentsBuffalo Bills
