I walk through downtown Pittsburgh everyday with drivers who have no remorse for pedestrians.

It's really not hard to navigate. Look out for cars before crossing a street.

That's what's frustrating though, individual drivers only have to look in the path of their destination for anyone or anything in their path, whereas pedestrian walkers have to see all possible angles from all directions for any vehicle that isn't paying attention to you or simply doesn't care. It sucks trying to simply cross a street sometimes when these giant metal death traps are zooming around without regard for human life or laws

        Pedestrians aren't innocent either.

I've seen some of the dumbest people cause more problems than anyone in any of their death traps.

It's really no different than when driving and being a defensive driver.

I also need to consider the fact that your city is much larger than mine and the walking traffic in Saginaw is significantly less, so our drivers aren't always expecting to watch out for people on foot, while in Pitt the drivers may be more prepared, and the pedestrians may be a little more haphazard while assuming the drivers are aware of them

Regardless of where you(not you...but in general) are driving....you should be cognizant that your 2500 lb.(or more) vehicle is going to **** someone up if you hit them.
People walk at an avg. of just over 3 M.P.H. while most vehicles are operated at more than 10 M.P.H. over the posted speed limit.
In line with what you say about as a pedestrian you have to have your head on a swivel.....the onus on the driver should be to try and be more aware and courteous to those not in vehicles IMO.

You can also tell when it's safe to walk or not by simply looking at the regular traffic lights, too.

The counters are helpful... both as a driver and pedestrian.

I think the buttons work just as the sensors on the ground at the stop lights do. When it detects someone there (by weight for a car, by pressing button for ped), the countdown begins for the light to change.

There are lights that are on a timer regardless of traffic, I think. And I believe lights can also change patterns for time of day. For example, an intersection at 2 AM's pattern is different then at rush hour -- and for good reason!

                  SORE THROATS!

It's like no matter what you try, nothing works and you must suffer the entirety of it. I end up drinking so much water/Gatorade to ease the pain that I turn into a 60-year old man having to go to the bathroom every 15 minutes.

After a while, with a sore throat, that "hitch" feeling whenever you drink anything starts to get really annoying.

You know what really grinds my gears?

Just got back from Rite Aid. I've never seen a cashier so miserable.

First she was bitching about people wanting a bag for their stuff. I kinda chuckled at it, I'm a pretty nice, friendly guy. I've been on the other side of the counter and I know customers can be weird. I thought we had common ground. Anyway I get up there to pay and she asks for my loyalty card... I say I have to type in phone number. She bitches that I don't have it.

                          Okay.

Then I pay with a $20. Admittedly, it was only for a $2 purchase but I wanted to break this $20 so I can get some singles back. How else are you supposed to do it? I bought something too, it's not like I asked for change without purchasing something.

The way this lady reacted, you'd think the money (a ten, five, two ones and some change) she had to count out was coming out of her pay check.

Older lady. Sorry you have to work this job. But damn. I had to bite my tongue to not let this lady know she's out of line. You don't gotta be nice, but don't act so negative. Someone else is gonna let her know.

The worst employee activity I've ever seen in person was in the bottle returns at Meijer, one of the bins filled up and this kid came stomping in, kicked the bin and shouted "I JUST WANNA GO HOME!" then slammed and smashed the bin and the replacement bin around like a child throwing a tantrum.

My buddy and I looked at each other like WTF. Keep it up you'll have all the time in the world at home man. We still randomly bring it up sometimes, one of us will blurt out I JUST WANNA GO HOME! (usually around other people who have no idea what's going on, hey now that I think of it maybe the kid was doing that to us!)
