I hate those intersections where the walk/don't walk signs give the pedestrians the right-of-way on both streets at once because it seems like you have to wait a lot longer to get the right-of-way than at the one way at a time lights, especially for this one intersection near my apartment.

Jaywalking is a pedestrian crossing without regard for traffic. It's usually NOT at the crosswalk, but if you cross against the light...you could be jaywalking.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
That's what I'm talking about. If you cross not so much against the regular traffic light, but against the "walk/stop" light. Cause it's a red light, so you should've been able to cross, but since the "walk/stop" light doesn't always change, you end up being forced to stay there, cause if you cross when it says stop, then it'd count as jaywalking?Comment

If you crossed when it was a don't walk AND there was traffic...yes.
No traffic coming....then no.
The law is really "with no regard to traffic"....not specifying any lights or not.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
But I'm sure any police officer will just go ahead and say or do something even if there isn't any traffic.
Then again,I've also seen people run right infront of traffic and nothing happened(people specifically in downtown can be real stupid. Can't wait the extra 10 seconds for the lights to change, but instead just run right through traffic to cross the street)Last edited by Majingir; 09-21-2015, 06:22 PM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
In these instances, the cars are all stopped, but the crossing light just didn't change. Either way, guess it doesn't matter lol. Just always wondered about that cause there's always instances where people are waiting at a light, and you might see the odd person or two decide to cross even though they shouldn't,and everyone else just stands there before a few of them decide to follow along too and cross, while the rest just wait for lights to change.

And you're way too paranoid if you're worried about being ticketed for jaywalkingComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I know where I live, the crossing sign will only change if the button is pushed. If you just stand there and wait for the traffic lights to change without pushing the button, the crossing sign won't change.
And you're way too paranoid if you're worried about being ticketed for jaywalking
I only mention it cause I've seen people get in trouble for doing so.
And I've seen police sometimes in my area doing whatever they can to give people tickets.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I know the button at a light near my office works because if you don't, it won't get you a walk signal. However, I wish there was a button that made people actually stop at the red light. Twice the girl I run with and I have almost been hit because of morons. And I'm not talking "It's yellow I'm going any way" running the light, because we can look and see that. More like "It's been red, signal says you can walk, cars the other way are pulling into the intersection, but I'm going to blow through this thing any way!" running the light.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I've heard that a community was complaining about lights/cross walks and the length. The city didn't do anything except turn them into the ones that have the count down and everyone was happy. Same exact length of lights and everything, just gave you the counter for the don't walk. Thought that was interesting.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

If you go to the post office and you're told it's going to take 4 minutes to be helped, you'll deal with it. But stand in that line with no information and those 4 minutes will feel like 10.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
The countdowns are real helpful at times. Cause some lights it'd just change when you're a few steps into the intersection, so now you'd suddenly have to rush across. With the countdown, you know if you got time or not.
Though there's some countdowns that are useless. One street I go by, the countdown start at 3. Hardly enough time to warn people crossing that the light is gonna change, cause it'd take more than 3 seconds to cross that street.
And others start at 30 or something. The longest 30 seconds ever lol.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
It may not be rocket science, but telepathy would help. As a pedestrian you have no idea what the drivers are thinking. You get the walk light and some jerk across the intersection blows through a left and nearly mows you over. It's frustrating, you feel like a pro athlete with your head constantly on a swivel. Maybe there really should be crosswalk science :PWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment
