It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine. -
Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
lol.
It's bittersweet though. I'm glad I no longer have to basically be embarrassed by being completely unable to assist people because of lack of training(it feels good when I'm able to help people, even if it's with things that aren't what I think my job was supposed to be). And obviously more than relieved I no longer have to be around "you know who". But it obviously does suck not to be getting that money anymore(it was about a third more than I was expecting/would've accepted), especially to do nothing lol. Basically got to pick my own schedule and it was close to home. Money/Schedule/Distance were the only few things good about the job itself.
Guess for now it's just:

Car insurance skyrocketing based on where you live. I get it increasing some, but damn Geico is being ridiculous. Fiance's insurance on an 2013 SUV worth only like $12k just shot up $30/mo because she moved to a different zip code a few miles away.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
As for GEICO, my only direct experience with them was about 20 years ago when I was shopping for car insurance as a youngster. I figured the 15 minutes thing might be worth it, so I called and literally ended the conversation laughing uncontrollably at the poor sales rep for providing a quote that was too absurd to be real. After answering all the questions, the quote came out to be something ridiculous like $5000 per 6 months. I had him repeat it 2 or 3 times before I started to laugh and asked if he seriously thought someone would pay that. Have had disdain for GEICO ever since then (for wasting my time and that sneaky little clause "could save you") and their annoying, onmipresent advertising campaigns. Insurance companies are such a scam (unless they give you a decent rate and don't try to dip out on claims).Last edited by WaitTilNextYear; 09-20-2017, 10:19 PM.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
So.... This is awkward. I got fired.
Had nothing to do with me. They admitted what I said here already that I got hired by mistake by someone no longer employed by them. Took them a few meetings after everyone returned from their vacations to decide what to do, but they said I don't fit any of the new positions they're creating.
Obviously I was getting free money for weeks and this had to end someday, but I thought they would've at least honoured my contract given I signed an extension(with the person who fired me, who wasn't the one I've been complaining about) literally a few weeks ago to stay on until November.
That does it. I'm writing a book. Gotta get money somehow. Who wants to preorder? LolChicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I don't think this is surprising to anybody on here. Sounds like it was always a bad fit and a bad situation so it was just a matter of time. Sure, getting money is always a thing, but don't underestimate the toll that being in a crappy situation takes on your health over time. Probably a net positive for you.
It was a contracted position so I at least knew I was gonna be there for just a few months, getting a higher pay than I probably deserve, then get December off and start fresh elsewhere in the new year. Things obviously didn't work out that way.
And I know being there long term definitely would've been horrible for me. One of those situations where it'd impact sleep and would be one of those hard to get out of bed type jobs.Comment

People who theme a party just because it's a trendy thing. Got invited to a "stock the bar" party, which I don't mind as a theme, but I've seriously never seen this couple drink more than 2 beers at a time. They aren't even moving into a house either.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I always laugh when I get junk mail from Geico (or any other car insurance company). Yeah, you really wanna insure someone with 20/200 vision? Yeah, obviously they don't know that I'm visually impaired and the envelope (almost) always has the "or current resident" line below my name, but it's still funny. Actually, you'd think they'be be able to check to see if the people they want to send junk to actually have valid drivers licences first.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I half-thought about making a new thread for the topic, but figured my gears being ground would be enough.
In Alabama, specifically west/central Alabama, there is a festival/debauchery every year known as the Foot Wash. You can search for it on YouTube or Google to get an idea of the insane trashiness of the event. If I posted a link, it'd probably violate multiple terms and conditions of the forums.
Either way, this year will be especially heinous, as we've got three or four rival gangs from different cities and counties intending to pop off at the mouth at each other at the Wash, and while we'll be there to protect those just attending the event to have a good time (people actually have the lack of decency to bring their children), we'll also possibly be in the line of fire if anything escalates (and it likely will).
My own opinion, the event should be shut down or at least we not provide law enforcement assistance being that it all happens on private property. Absolutely grinds my gears that I'll be there turning a blind eye to heavy/hardcore drug usage going on around me, when I'm sworn to enforce laws I'm seeing broken freely and carelessly. On the only positive note, Bishop Bullwinkel will be back this year, ha.
For those wondering, the Foot Wash consists of no feet being washed. There are gambling tents, prostitution tents, drug trafficking going on freely, folks pushing cheap shirts and products, etc. Think of it as a fair with no rides but plenty of sex and drugs. Oh, and guns. Lots of guns. While we are given the green light to shut down gambling and prostitution, we're expected to not cause much stir over minor drug usage.
So there's my weekend. Starting in an hour and a half and continuing until about midnight Sunday/Monday. No sleep for the wicked, so we don't get much either.Comment
