What I asked at Subway this morning:

"Could I please just have a little oil and vinegar?"

    .

What they interpreted my request as:

"YOU WANT MORE OIL AND VINEGAR THAN WE USUALLY PUT ON OTHER SANDWICHES?? OKAY, LET ME DRENCH IT TILL YOU CAN'T TASTE ANYTHING ELSE INCLUDING THE EXTRA MONEY YOU SPENT ADDING CHEESE AND AVOCADO, AND THE PAPER GETS SOGGY TO THE POINT SOME OLIVES FALL OUT OF THE WRAPPING COMPLETELY AND YOU HAVE TO PLACE THEM BACK IN ONE BY ONE!"

At least they didn't charge you extra. Some franchisees are so tight with money, they make sure the employees don't even give a slice more than the standard amount.

Thats why I moved on from subway and just going after burritos and pitas. Same fillings, a bit cheaper, but they stuff it for you.

I've had that happen a couple time, except with mayonaise. Also once had pickles mysteriously appear on my sandwich despite me not asking for them (I'd told the person adding the topping what I wanted then turned to the person at the register to pay so I didn't see what she was putting on the sandwich).

As my old manager at the pizza shop used to say, “Everything costs.”

Every slice of meat, cheese, etc is calculated when your sub is rung up at the register. If inventory expects 3 slices per sandwich, and you’re giving away 1-2 slices extra, that adds up.

When inventory is short every week, eventually the higher ups will notice the money coming out of their pocket. Then it falls on the GM, rolls down to the shift managers and ends at the regular employees.

Requesting more of something and expecting not to pay is naive.

There’s many things big franchises like Subway do wrong. Charging extra for something extra isn’t one of them.

I have a good excuse: it was the only sandwich shop nearby my school at 7AM.

I like it though. I don't love it, like I realize when going to other sandwich shops how much better some of the ingredients taste and such... but it does have what I like and I am pretty accustomed to it.

I do miss the Subway Club $5 footlong on Sundays, though.

The only reason I'd care for Subway over making my own sub is simply because of their bread. Obviously it's freshly made, but you really can't find anything similar at a grocery store to make your own sandwich with. Ingredients wise I have no problem just cutting up stuff myself, but the bread is the biggest difference. Similar with things like paninis as well.

seriously, why can't you buy this **** at the store?

not just subway, but all fast food places, I wanna buy **** like taco bell nacho cheese at the store (don't even try and tell me taco bell queso is the same)

Are white castle burgers from the frozen aisle anywhere near as good as white castle burgers from the drive thru? I don't have one near me so I have no idea

I get the idea that if we can buy their stuff at the store we won't need to buy it from the restaurant, but what's the difference? they get our money either way

I want mcdoubles, quesaritos, and REAL pizza available everywhere!

I'd buy Subway bread, sesame seed burger buns, Swiss cheese, curly fries(used to find them, but haven't in over a decade), and all things they use to make mcflurrys and slurpees. Why can't stores have similar things as that?

All other things I've been able to make myself, many times even better than the stores. Tacos, burgers, quesadillas among other things I can make better. Subs, fries and cold snacks I can't. Even bigger things like pasta dishes I can get similar to restaurants.

I'm not a great cook or anything, but these are simple once you trial and error a few times lol.

They don’t sell them at the store because they want you to go to their store. I know Taco Bell sells some stuff at the grocery store but it’s pretty limited.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I mean, everything they make at a restaurant can be made at home. The ingredients are typically right there at the grocery store. To me the biggest obstacle is having the equipment. Who’s got a flat top grill like a restaurant? Deep fryer?

Plus, if you buy the ingredients, you’re making multiple of whatever you’re trying to make, not just one like you can buy at a drive thru. Hope you like leftovers.

In the end, it never tastes like how the restaurant makes it anyway. I can make a burger a million times better then McDonald’s, but it doesn’t taste like McDonald’s. I go to McDonald’s because I want a burger on my 30 minuet lunch break, not because I think it’s better then what I can make at home. It’s just more convenient.
