Yeah my high school had metal detectors and 10 year old textbooks. Some of the books were held together with grey tape. But yeah I remember entering the school, unzip your bookbag, unzip your jacket, empty out your pockets, stick your arms out to the side. That was an every day routine for me just to go to school. Get pat down every school morning.

And backpacks had to be clear.
I understand mass school shootings are a problem and its terrible, but they piss me off with the outrage over clear backpacks now. That was SOP in just about every hood in America, but now its a thing in the suburbs its a problem?Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
On my own gear grinder note: this one is killing me tonight. My friend helped me order a new and improved AC based on the listed dimensions to fit in my wall. Wall measurement was 19.5" width. Unit ordered showed 19.38" Extremely tight squeeze, but we're adamant about getting 8000 BTU and determined on this one.
Went to Home Depot for in store pickup and I check the dimensions on the box just for fun and the width shows 19 and 9/16"
It was the exact model we ordered, internet dimensions showed different than box dimensions. Lugged that ****er up 3 floors to try and see if it fits anyway. This mother****er is basically 1/16" too short on width. I'm way out of shape, I start smashing the side of the wall entry with a hammer in a desperate attempt to clear that tiny little amount needed to squeeze the AC in.
No luck. Had to swallow my pride and repackage that bastard the best I could, carry that jerk back down the steps and load it back up for a return. My friend not pleased, she has dinner plans with her cousin.
Back to Home Depot, we find a Toshiba 8000 BTU with the necessary width, but questionable height. She wants to try it anyway, she's in a hurry and won't stick around to see if it works anyway. The height is 13.4" and I'm not comfortable with that, it's too close and I don't want to go through that again.
We end up going with 6000 BTU that is guaranteed to fit but might not even be much of an upgrade over the 5000 BTU in place.
On the plus side, when I got home I re-measured the wall opening and it was 13.2" so the 13.4" Toshiba would've been just another heartache
I'm so out of shape I have bruises all over my arms lol, gonna be all sore tomorrow, which happens to be the big Spectrum installation day I've been fearing for monthsWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

I locked myself out of my classroom yesterday. Locking yourself out of something has to be the absolute worst feeling of defeat.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I grew up in a small town and I loved it, I still live there to this day although it's a bit bigger now. We are about 15 miles east of Syracuse and the problem we have now is that all the people are moving here from the city. The town has grown a lot over the last 20 years and I hate it.
We are a farming community, dairy farms, several of them in the town including in my family for years. What bothers me the most is people move here and then complain about the smell of cow crap in the air. We have one lady that bought a house right down the street from a farm and right behind her house is a big corn field and she complains all the time about the smell.
I wish I could just kick these people out of my town and send them back to the city.Comment

It gets worse lol, I've been closely paying attention to this new one and I have an early suspicion it might have a faulty thermostat
Good news on the Spectrum installation though, everything went great!Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Living in North Carolina for 90% of my whole life has exposed me to all sorts of niches and cliques. Most of which I hate.
We have the Raleigh hipsters who wear flannel in summer, have beards to match, and drink only local draft beers and IPAs. Most likely have an Arts Degree, work at Starbucks, and are amateur bloggers. Others are N.C State pseudo-students who hang around on campus, despite dropping out almost five years ago.
Then you have the Cary (Central Area for Relocated Yankees). Mostly good people from up north, except you have the few angry old people that yell at you in traffic. Like, chill out, y’all, this here’s the south. We don’t turn right on red.
Then, you have the hicks (I guess I fall into that category). Pick-up trucks, questionable relationships with sisters/cousins, can often be found hanging in the Cook-Out parking lot smoking weed with the employees. I don’t do any of that, but whenever I see them, I sorta feel like I belong.
And there you have it, folks. The great sociological case study of the South. She ain’t perfect, but she’s home, fellas!

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
My first experience with different social cliques was when I moved down south. My school up north was like 20% were the unpopular kids, then everyone else. We were pretty much all the same.
Moved to Texas, and I see the preps, the band nerds, the jocks, the hicks (oh man the hicks lol), etc. All that was new to me. I hated it, and it took me a while to get acclimated.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
lol so true. I've lived in Alabama for 48 years and normally I'm as slow paced as can be. Except in this instance. Turn already! But I would never yell or honk at anyone in traffic. The last way that I'd volunteer to die is by road rage lolOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

You don't turn right on red?
Are you turning right anyway, like when the light turns green?
Are you allowed to turn right on red?Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
The problem is too many people drive like they're the only ones on the road. And that isnt a problem restricted to the south, I'm sure lolOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23
