The lack of thank you I see grinds my gears so much! Even letting cars pull out, nothing. My area people just walk across the street whenever they feel like it and expect you to stop and they walk SO SLOWLY just staring at you.

So I do and NOTHING, except sometimes they give you the occasional finger or hand just because!

It is making a cold 40 year old.

I've been thinking about this post lately because I've noticed something about myself, I never give the polite waive when entering or exiting a store to drivers who stop and let me cross

I've always assumed as the pedestrian I have the right of way and all I need to do is make sure people aren't trying to zoom through, as long as everyone stops like they're supposed to I just rapidly walk through that zone and think nothing else of it.

When driving, if someone lets me in, I always give the waive, so that's a different story, but walking in or out of a store it never even crossed my mind. It didn't feel like someone was doing me a favor.

But anyway, I've noticed for awhile that if I try to jog through that zone real quick, I'm in danger of getting run over because so many people don't actually want to wait for slow walkers, and in my attempt to be polite and quickly cross that lane I nearly get run over by people who don't have the patience and didn't anticipate my speed

Now when I cross and someone lets me go by I make sure and give the waive

If there's a walk/don't walk signal at the intersection I'm crossing I don't wave, but if there is no signal I do.

People walking in the street when there is a lovely sidewalk literally right next to them. And then they get pissed off when I get close to them when I have no other option.

Or when people try to cross a highway when there's a crosswalk about 50 feet away. I think those are the type who would be okay with being hit and collecting disability the rest of their life.

Mine is the cost of living here in Denver, and the particular school that I'm at. I'm not a licensed teacher so I can't teach at a traditional public school, the private schools out here never have jobs open, and I only have my MA so it's not really possible to teach full-time at the CC or 4 year level without a ton of field experience. So I'm limited to this (or another) charter school, and they pay well below the state average; and Colorado is something like 45th in teacher pay/funding already.

I also have a one year old.

And about the holidays off.. we're not paid for those at my school. We get paid for 181 contact days every year, so that doesn't count any holiday where I don't teach. So while I'm receiving paychecks over the Summer while not teaching, I'm not actually getting paid for those days. I'm just getting back pay for what I did during the school year.

It is weird, I never thought of Denver as a high cost of living place. When people normally say high cost of living place you always hear Chicago, NYC, LA, SF, Miami, etc.

It's not to those places yet, but land value is through the roof and now that so many people have moved here, other things have started to catch up.

I wonder if now that California has fully legalized things whether the influx will slow down. I've been out there 3 times in the past couple years and I really wonder if they're going to fill all that housing they seem to be building.

What's with the teacher bashing in here? lol. That really grinds my gears.

Don't know how to manage their money? Get paid commensurate with their talents/responsibilities? Too whiny? OK then. Agree to disagree.

It's so expensive here in San Diego I almost don't know how they do it. The median home price here is almost $600,000. That's freaking insane. The area I live in now (and grew up in) is called Clairemont. It's always been a middle income, blue collar worker area. They just built a new lot of houses recently down the street where an elementary school was and they were going for a $1,000,000+. And they sold them all really quickly too. Never in my life would I have expected to see million dollar homes in Clairemont. La Jolla sure. But not here. Makes me wonder what kind of jobs these people have. I couldn't afford that in my wildest dreams.

I wish I looked into moving to San Diego about three years ago. Now it's just a pipe dream for me. I don't know if we expect to see a housing bubble there in the next 5-8 years or not either.
