Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

Condensed conversation at Super Bowl party yesterday:

Person #1: Oh hey, so we (he and his girlfriend) finally saw Thor: Ragnarok the other day. It was pretty sweet.
Me: Did you see Infinity War yet?
    Person #1: Nah man, why?
Me: Oh, just wondering because it starts up after the post-credits of Ragnarok so I thought maybe you watched them out of order. Did you stick around for the credits?
Person #1: Well, we had to... (gets interrupted)
Person #2 (Person #1's girlfriend): ... What's Infinity War? Is that another Thor movie?
Person #3: It's an Avengers movie, like where they team up.
Person #2: OH! Is that the one where [insert massive IW spoiler]???"

Person #1 (the boyfriend, mind you) and new Person #4 go up in arms. "Well now I feel like we've seen it!" "C'mon man, we can just go watch it together very sadly."

I think I've realized the only thing I hate more than actual spoilers is the sheer obliviousness and inconsiderateness of others when in a public space regarding such items.

All this being said, I didn't happen to catch the Endgame SB TV spot and I think this all took place well before it played, so if it happened to spoil Infinity War stuff then, well perhaps I guess time has just caught up to them and they should catch that on Netflix ASAP. Main reason I brought it up was for the very reason was that Endgame was nearing anyway.

I suppose I expected nothing less coming from you. You have made it abundantly clear that you are on one end of the spoiler debate anyway, so there is no way I should assume to convince you otherwise.

However, you don't think that in a crowd of over a dozen people that one might think to show a little more discretion? One can identify the film in thousands of ways, and yet you choose to speak out on the most massive spoiler in the film. Hell, somebody just did right before she spoke out. She simply decided to volunteer a bit more information.

And I guess the boyfriend who just saw Thor: Ragnarok should have been spoiled before watching it as well, since you know it's been out for well over a year. Hell, we should have deprived him of watching it altogether; he already had his chance.

I suppose I need to restate what my gear grinder was: not the spoiler itself, but the individual who thought it was okay to speak on it with no filter or second's hesitation whatsoever. But if you're still okay with that, then different strokes I guess.

        Back to unsubscribing.

You know what really grinds my gears?

I had no idea there were people out here who don’t want to be spoiled about a movie they have yet to see for whatever reason, that’s been out nearly a YEAR! Not even sure I would consider that to be “inconsiderate”.

Person #1 and Person #4 must be one of the only people in the world like that. Hell, how did his GF know about it but he didn’t though? Lol

Lol. Man, I don't have sympathy for people getting spoiled on something that has been out.

My wife and I started GoT in December and just finished it, yesterday. I didn't mention we were watching it to anyone, didn't search for anything on Google and what do you know, not one thing from 77 episodes was spoiled. People can avoid spoilers if they really want to.

I think the only time I've been pissed about a spoiler and it ruin something for me is the movie Logan. I was out to sea the week the movie released and I planned on watching it when we got back to port. I checked Facebook to see how my family was doing when we got to the pier and had service again and someone posted one of those stupid *** "Only 90's kids will remember this" memes. The 4th pane on the picture was the biggest spoiler imaginable for the movie and I still have yet to see it just because that kind of ruined it for me.

If people are intentionally trying to spoil **** then I take issue with it, but otherwise you can't expect the world to live by some unwritten rule like that.

Comic book movies are all about hype, I (probably ignorantly) would assume anyone who hasn't seen Infinity War at this point, probably isn't THAT invested in the story and wouldn't mind being spoiled. Aside from that, we've already gotten a trailer for a movie that takes place after Infinity War. Whatever was spoiled is going to be undone 2 movies from now.

It used to be that "spoilers" were only a sensitive thing when a movie had a twist ending, or some other gimmick. Now it's like people are pissed if you mention that a character speaks to another character in the movie.

Trailers used to be like 5 minutes long, explaining the entire movie, with actual scenes and dialogue. Now if trailers are more than 60 seconds, with more than just extremely vague narration, it's too much for people.

The obsession with "spoiler alert" is just bizarre to me.

I understand where you guys are coming from for sure, but from my perspective, it seems like a really low-effort thing to do, so why not just err on the side of spoiler-alert? But then, far be it from me to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't get their gears grinded about.

I get it. Went and saw Aquaman the day it dropped and was around some comic friends the next day. Made sure to not spoil anything. But a year, man? A year?

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I think it should be fair game a few weeks after the movie releases on digital /br/DVD.

Some people don't bother watching movies in theatre and just wait for the home release which is fine, but a movie like infinity war, obviously it'd be hard avoiding spoilers even a few days after it releases, but at this point I think it's on them if it gets spoiled.

I didn't see the movie right away but saw all those dust memes and had no idea what it was supposed to be.

TV shows on other hand I see no problem with spoilers after a week or so in person, and during show airing online. Even on this site we used to have debate about spoilers. People would go into threads not watching the latest episode(s) of a show and get mad at spoilers being posted.

Yeah, I can definitely see the other side of it. I mean, people have to take some responsibility and not go perusing threads talking about a movie/show/whatever some time after the fact, because you know there are going to be spoilers in there. Just stay off the interwebs if you're really concerned. It cuts both ways for sure.

I hate how websites pop up/down depending on what ads are displaying where, and it never stops, so reading a long article is annoying as hell because you lose your place when the screen randomly moves down or up with the ad. Or, it causes you to click a link above/below where you were trying to click, and then I have to go back and it frequently happens AGAIN....it's getting to be like a QTE/minigame just to click on the links you want to go to on most websites now...

                                One headlight drivers.

I just imagine how much time has probably elapsed between the lamp burning out and me, with some really low probability of coming into contact with the driver, seeing it. Think of all the times these people have been flashed by oncoming traffic. Probably have been pulled over by police etc.

The bonus package is these folks will also roll through stop signs, tailgate you to the point where you don't trust making a turn in front of them, not use any signals whatsoever, and speed unreasonably fast thru residential areas. Truly the best drivers.
